Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good thursday morning,
CAH outside again.

I am glad I put the heater into the coop. I know the chickens can handle cold, but if there is an alternative, why not do it ?
I think it helps with the egg production, too..

Lots of snow predicted. I am not going to plow if I don't have to, until it warms up on Tuesday.

In the mean time, this is my last post here until someone else posts..

three long weekends in a row starting today for me. I need a break so I'm extra excited. Trying to find a good used ice auger. I got the feelers on one in Wausau and I'm hoping it works out. Probably should hit the ice this weekend. My buddies have been fishing since last Sunday and I've been quite jealous.

nice to see somebody else is still alive..

I have an old ice auger that I am not going to use anymore.
It ran when I put it away a couple of years ago.
Jiffy. it is the kind with the handle that sticks straight out, not the newer model that has the round handles..
prolly needs a carb cleaning. It was sharp..

before noon and I am all done plowing.
we got only about 4 or 5 inches of light snow.

got a dozen eggs again today.. one was a very tiny pullet egg. I don't know who laid that one.
I think the sagitta's are too young yet.

the heater in the coop quit again.
checked the breaker: OK.
checked all the connections: OK.
then I checked the power strip.. it was turned off..
How that happened, I have no idea..
It is in a very protected place behind a closed door.

Glad you were able to find the problem for the heater. We got about 4 inches of the white stuff, and it has started snowing again. The chickens are starting to produce steadily. I am amazed at my 5 year old Polish who take a month break for molting and start producing again.
Here is my GS with one:

i have an obsession for ice augers. I love them. Back ups are always great to have. Nothing beats a old all metal jiffy. The new ones are plastic garbage. Even the throttle is plastic. Someone hAd their head up their arse when they decided on that. Just my two cents. Cold one tomorrow and tomorrow night. Gonna have to give the chickens some cracked corn tomorrow afternoon to keep them warmer all night.

good evening,
today wasn't too bad outside. anything above zero is tolerable.. it was about 11*F when I plowed.

In my tracing the electrical problem, I removed the Thermacube as a possible culprit. I forgot to put it back in after I located the problem, I am not going back out anymore today or tonight. the chickens should be very warm tonight.

the reason they did away with the stick handle on the Jiffy was because people were jambing their thumbs on it. that wouldn't happen if you held it correctly so that it pulled out of your hand if it got stuck. a lesson we old timers learned from cranking old cars and tractors.
some of the really old cranks did not have the tapered seat so you had to quickly pull the crank out after each crank turn. if it started and you did not get the crank pulled out , the crank handle would come around and hit you on the arm.. that caused many broken bones to many people.

I don't know if it snowed here anymore. my puter is down here in the basement . can't see outside .. don't care, either..

the Packers and Bears will earn their pay tomorrow.
going to be around the big O for game temperature.
Might have to hire Brady to
let some air out of the balls.

good morning,
Packers at noon,

Annie is stranded at work. her car won't start.
I am waiting for a call to see if I have to go rescue her or not.

I swept off the 8 inches of accumulated snow from the Blazer. ready to go if I have to.
