Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Nice break from the extreme cold today. I broke down today and finally started feeding the wild song birds....while I've had the suet feeders going since snow on the ground, it's the first for the wild bird seed....already I have within ten minutes of placing it out 3 pair of cardinals and multiple chickadees and nut hatches...now I'll be obligated to keep them fed till the snow is gone.

good evening,

I used to feed the wild birds. but when I couldn't use the sunroom, I couldn't watch them. so I just quit.. the neighbors feed them, so they aren't going without eating.
the bluejays and some chikadees came for the bread that Ken used to throw out.

I watched the Seahawks get their wings clipped. go Falcons.

I went to F&F and bought puppy food and milk replacer.
those pups dove right into it as if they were doing it their whole life..

I bought a dog kennel tray to set on the table to set the potted plants on. it will keep the moisture from wrecking the table.. although it is a very old drop leaf table, it is in pretty good shape..

I got a can of Seafoam regular and a can of Seafoam auto transmission treatment.

there is another football game starting. I will be watching that one , too..

not much on tv tonight..

GO PACK GO! If we can beat the cowgirls today, I think we will go all the way!

The fleet farm in Clintonville always has empty shelves......no scratch grains, and no wild bird seed that they have on sale. That store has really bad management.

We are taking advantage of the slightly warmer weather and moving a ton of pellets to the front porch. It is a 3 season, closed in porch - so the pellets will stay dry. They will also be about 12 feet from the pellet stove, which is a plus because we never think to fill it until right before bed.
DH will put the pallet forks on the tractor and haul the entire pallet to the front door for unloading.
I used the last bag of our last haul off the porch yesterday. We have been going through a about a 50 pound bag of pellets per day during the single digit and lower temp days.
We should be warm for a month or so.

Fingers crossed please. At lock up this evening we had two OEGBs missing. One is my prized black roo Mickey. The other my silver duckwing hen, Ducky.

Hoping Ducky has gone broody and Mickey is with her. Particularly odd BC Ducky isn't much into leaving the coop in the cold.

Hoping they turn up if not our entire breeding year for OEGB went down the toilet and I'll miss them terribly.

We were home all day and saw and heard nothing out of the ordinary. Despite searching we have found no signs of anything. Very odd with the guineas if something did happen that we wouldn't hear it. Will search again tomorrow.

Goodnight all.

Great Packer Victory....next the Falcons....

Yep, good luck with the lost ones cd. Do critters from the outside have access to the coop?

Thanks guys please keep the hopes coming. No signs of them yet.

They were out free ranging, although the silver duckwing, Ducky, hasn't been going out in the cold weather Mickey, the black, always goes out.

So yes they were free ranging and an animal could have gone through the open door but it's odd we didn't hear anything from the flock or the guineas especially. However when the door is shut the only thing that we've seen get in is mice(which we are working on dealing with) it's possible a rat could get in but we haven't seen one so I can't say. Still I can't imagine a rat grabbing either of them let alone both in one day. Plus Mickey is almost exclusively on a shelf 4-5' in the air when in the coop. He thinks it's a roost.

In spite of all of our predator problems last year the only thing we've ever found in the coop predator-wise was an egg eating possum a few weeks back. Which won't be eating any eggs again.

I'm at a loss and feel they're either hiding somewhere or were grabbed by a hawk or pair of hawks. Mickey did have a short scuffle with a SLW cockeral yesterday but nothing major and he was holding his own when we saw it.

I don't know what I'll do for the breeding of my OEGB if I've lost both of them. Mickey was from a show quality pair and I was using him to breed some more self blues(keeping very good records on who had the lavender gene and who didn't) I also have his pure black line hen, Minnie. Ducky has her mate too. :(
