Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

That is some pretty small seeds. I have never planted asparagus by seed, only root. Since they take so long to mature I guess now would be as good a time as any to start them. Seed catalogues have arrived and I need to sit down and hammer out how much seed I will need for the new area. Lots of math.
My Rock was the last hold out for egg laying and I have not seen anything from her for 3 days now. The EE have not laid for weeks and my Buffs stopped about 2 weeks ago when one went broody. Cold air cured that in about a week but damage is done and not a single egg to be seen atm. I guess with the cold temps that is not all bad, no frozen ones then.
Sounds like the thermocube is working well for you Jim, I had considered buying one for the water heater but never did.
Holy cats on the 5k run babylady!

good afternoon,
I thought it would be nice to drive to town for a cuppa this morning.
the township wants to spend a million dollars on a new garage/town hall. I think it would be nice if they spent some of that on plowing our road, first ..

I left my car in town and rode home with Annie. she has 4WD. I don't. I couldn't even make it out of the restaurant parking lot.

I picked up about 20 eggs today. but I didn't collect them yesterday.. none were frozen.. a nice 45F in the coop.
the only bad thing about that is that the floor is not frozen and that deep litter is kind of spongy ..

I think we have at least 8 inches of the slippery white shlt ..
I am not going to even try plowing today. I did start Ollie up and let him warm up for a few minutes this afternoon.

Yep, a extra snowy turd here today...10" of the stuff I hate. Snow blower fix it guy was gonna deliver my machine today after being fixed, but his road was never plowed and mine either...we are prolly 3 miles apart as the crow flies, and I said tomorrow will work fine. I ain't goin anywhere today, except out to the coops. You gotta love this or hate this stuff....wish I coulda watched the National championship last night...saw the highlights today....quite the game for sure.

Hey Brent, if he is that close, have him start it up and blow a path to your house..

That's funny Jim...but he did manage to drop it off today on the road down in front....still at 11:00am today only one side of the road was plowed....started the beast up and cleaned up the 10 plus inches.....my driveway is prolly 150 yards long or better with a steep hill....glad it's finished til the next time. He also made a comment on how much snow it throws....it's a 13 hp with a 33" cut....my cleanup here still takes a hour with this amount of snow.

Back again with just a suggestion to grow your own soup and baking beans if you like providing your family with the best. We just finished hand shelling our cranberry beans for future use.....tomorrow it's my favorite southwestern beans....anyway, I just wanted to mention, that from one pack of seeds and prolly a 20 foot row of beans, we managed to store a little over 10lbs of dried beans....way better than the the dry beans you buy commercially.

good morning all,

I decided that I am not going to go outside until it warms up next week.. I will go out once a day to feed the birds, but that's it..

I plowed yesterday, what a miserable experience. Ice under the snow. got stuck with Ollie twice so badly I had to be pulled out. the second time was the worst. I couldn't move him with the 4WD pickup truck.. luckily my friendly neighbor brought his huge 4WD front end loader and pulled me out.
with that machine, he could have lifted me out..
Egg production seems to be getting better..
it must be because I am keeping the coop heated to 45*F

chickdream,
I decided that on my next round of scions, I will use just two nodes.  One for the root and one for the leaves.
when it comes to putting them into separate pots, I can use shorter pots.  I use the large deli containers .. maybe I can get by with the short ones.
then I can get by with less potting soil, also..
I also make the diagonal cut at the root end.
cut it on the opposite side of the bud node and about 1/4 inch below.  just don't damage the node.
this allows me to push the scion right to the bottom of the pot.

hi Jim thanks for the help. We have our first set of scions done and now we just have to wait.

How long until you checked them? I believe I've read two weeks which seems like a ton. Thanks again. I will let you know how they do. We also plan to start more from the other tree and aso more of the same tree.

Seems like we're coming down with what's going around. What a bummer.

Have a woman coming out for 3 lavender Orpingtons today.

Hi All,
chkdrm,, you can check them every day, but that won't speed things up any ..
I hope 2 weeks is correct because I am nearing that point.
I haven't looked at mine for a few days..

today I have decided to water all of my potted starts. I will check the apples then.

I had a Dr appt yesterday. He told me that everything looked fine, and that according to my tests, my heart is stronger than when he saw me a year ago..
maybe I will live long enough to enjoy some of the fruits of my labor , eh ? asparagus: 3 years, apple: 4 to 5 years.
elderberry: 2 years. I transplanted some grapes last fall. those could give me some next summer.
I think I left a grape where it was, so that should be OK for next summer.

I fed the chickens vast amounts of feed today. so if they don't make pigs of themselves, I shouldn't have to feed them until late tomorrow afternoon.

I picked up a few 5 gallon buckets from Trig's yesterday.
going to make at least one feeder out of them.
5 gallons should last 2 days..??? I hope..
