Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

yah, Corey, killing your own might be a little difficult.

My sow had a few babies. I had a good electric fence.
one wire at 6 " and the other at 16". the sow stayed in real good. I kept 2 little ones. they were about 50 pounds and they would get out every day.
One day I watched them. they both stood about 15 feet from the fence. they squealed like crazy and then ran at the fence, layed on their sides and slid right under. I assumed the squealing was that they knew they were going to get zapped.

when it came time to move the sow, we took the wire down and layed it on the ground we could not get that big sow past where the fence used to be. My brother and I both pushed the sow sideways over the fence line. then she was fine with it.

I took the puppy along with me to feed the birds. that little buggar is fearless. came right into the chicken coop. the hustle and bustle of 50 chickens didn't bother him a bit. and when the gander goose honked and hissed at him, he was completely ignored.

it is slippery out there today. not really much ice though. I expect it will melt before tonight.

I jumped the gun and took the garbage to the road today.
tomorrow it is supposed to be very cold.

I have a reply from Green Bay about the puppy.
Somebody better take him soon or I won't want to let him go.
He is like my shadow. I can't count how many times I turned around and just about stepped on him.

It is still drizzling here and building up more ice. it is just thick enough to be slick .

I am going to pretend I know nothing about food regulations right now since I am reading about feeding waste cheese to pigs....... (big no-no thanks to the state....) I know you will chime in here BigZ; I wish the rules were different; it sure would help getting rid of the waste......

Not too icy here this morning.

Mom had her knee replaced on the 23rd of January; tomorrow I am taking her to PT and then to see her doc to have the staples taken out. Fun!

Finally did some decent cardio yesterday; first time in three weeks! I am sooooooo sore! Today was misery, stairs were the worst..... no pain no gain right? At least I am finally down with whatever bug I had, finally have the coughing down to the bare minimum. Doing the Seroogy's 5K on Saturday, looking forward to it!

good cold morning,
I couldn't wait for the coffee to finish brewing, so I took a half a cup out of the first half a pot. I don't think I will need any more coffee today.
Annie made an apple pie yesterday, I am sure glad I fixed the oven..

I am sorry that feeding old cheese to pigs grosses some people out. how about this, then. I once watched a herd of pigs eat a whole dead dog..

my friend's dad sometimes had up to 200 free ranging pigs in the woods. (fenced in) . I would hate to be the one who got knocked unconcious out there..

Just finished up my house work. I need a different dish washer than myself but I don't think they ever do a real good job. If you gotta rinse them pretty much clean what's the point. May as well wash them while your at it. Calling for almost 40 this weekend. It'll be nice to let the chickens out for a while to stretch and get some fresh air. I'm ready for the snow to be gone but I wouldn't mind one more decent snowfall so I can use my newish plow truck. I have 3 trucks now....maybe I should invest in a car next

good morning, again,

corey, be careful of what you wish for..
there is plenty of time for more snow..

yesterday I cut open a buttercup squash and saved the seeds.
I am going to let them dry for awhile, and then I am going to plant a couple to see if they are fertile.

I tossed the rest of the pieces of squash to the chickens.
they almost caught the pieces in mid air. most of those chickens have never even seen a squash before, but you wouldn't know it by the way they attacked it..

I gave my girls a good snack yesterday. I split a watermelon and a cantaloupe in half. They were a touch over ripe for me so they scored big time. All that's left is paper thin skin from them. I gave them a couple pieces of toast with a little peanut butter today lol don't judge

Nice sunny day here today...gotta love it! Congrats on another truck cw....don't think you will lose anything on that purchase.

Yep, laws have really changed a lot since I was a young man. Cheese whey used to be a waste product and was dumped by the small factories onto fields and sway holes until they figured out uses for the different cheese whey for human consumption.....it is high in protein and is consumed in many different products by humans now.....It was fed to a lot of pigs that would take it from the local factories also, but there was so much it that a lot was merely dumped as a waste product...it now has value and is used or mostly sold to other companies that turn it into human consumption.

Mom was moved from the hospital to the nursing home. Hoping she can recover and go home, but that's asking more I think than one can expect.

Hope you are doing ok Robin. we miss you and worry you know?

did I miss something ? whatup with Robin ?

My friend's dad had a small used truck with a 300 gallon tank on it. even before I had a driver's license, I was 14 or 15 years old,, I often took the truck to a small cheese factory about 12 miles away and filled it with whey for the pigs. often when I got there, their tank would be overflowing onto the ground.

after I got married and Annie was working at the cheese store.
I had several truck loads of whey spread over part of my property. as did lots of our farmer neighbors..

It made the grass and hay grow nice and green .
that was back around 1970. it was shortly after that when you could not even buy a load anymore.

.However, when I had my pigs, there was a small cheese factory where I would go once a week and get 4 or 5 milk cans full each week.. It was run by a very old woman whose husband died and left her with the factory to run.
when I butchered our pig, I gave her a roast and some of the bacon.
