Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good late wintery Saturday morning,
Played cards last night, stayed up way too late.
Had fun, though.

I don't know if any of you remember me talking about the
Guinea Lady. her son started a Shiitake operation. then he got
hurt on the job and could no longer do the shrooms..
He was selling them to restaurants all over this state.

I have an oak tree that I can take some branches off of.
I figure 3 foot long logs for ease of handling.

I have to do some chicken manure composting for the white
button shrooms.

I have an insulated room in the basement that we use for potato storage, canned goods and ho-made wine. it is always cool in there and there is no light from outside..
I have a low volume circulation fan for fresh air from outside.
At this time of year the temp in in the rest of my basement holds at 60F.

sounds like another project for this summer.

Sounds you may have a good setup, Jim. We use ironwood logs. About 40". They last for a long time. We have a spot on the North side of the house that is mostly shaded and I put up some shade cloth as well. We got a sprinkler system from Menards for $20 that we hung over the logs and with that we can mist them when it is really dry. Ours have already started to try and fruit this year but we are having too many cool spells for them to really develop.

Keep your eyes open in Wausau

the east end of Ross dead ends at the edge of Wausau, \
from there it turns into wild wetland swamp for about a mile.
then it hits George M's farm and is farmland from there on.
That is my old growing up neighborhood.
I used to hunt rabbits in that swamp.

If that dog went North, it could possibly go past my bro Dave's
house.

Dang chilly Sunday Morning here. Hope this is the last week of below normal temps. Been working in the woods and seem to fall asleep right after supper when I hit the lazyboy.....must be all the fresh air and hard work. The neighbor has his 80 acres of woods being logged right now. I can cut firewood there also after they are done logging. Plenty of work ahead....I should be at least 2 years ahead on the pile after this cutting season.

I wonder if they will find that dog in the big swamp?

Well, since the lost dog is a fox, hopefully it will still have some wild instincts to survive if it doesn't head home. I am soooo ready for spring. I want to get outside and get dirty!!!!!

good morning,

I didn't go out until about noon. it was not so bad.
I even used the outside faucet and the choke on Ollie was not frozen so tight that I could not pull it out..

I let the chickens out. rather, they all flocked out the door as soon as I opened it. collected 10 eggs..

I had straw in all the nests, but the chickens made quick work of emptying them out..

shavings seem to last a bit longer.

I tried pieces of carpeting once. it lasted OK, but got matted down. maybe I gotta get a better grade ..

Brent, good score on the tops. you should be able to cut firewood for a loooong time.
I used to go down to the flood plane behind my place an pick up lots of trees that washed down stream..
don't make the mistake I did once. I dragged logs across a plowed field.. makes it really tough on the chainsaw cutters..

I have to water plants today. Annie said the asparagus is dry.

i always do Marth sawdust. I'll be getting my new coop on the next few weeks. Gonna just buy a 8x10 shed kit from menards. My wife is gonna play interiruo designer and make the inside all "cute". I'm glad she's finally getting into the chickens and stuff. She used to think I was crazy but now there's a couple breeds she wants us to get this summer.

good clean looking outside snowy morning,
GG, I got only about a half inch, you must have gotten even less way up Nort..

this afternoon I have to take Zeke in for a rabies shot.
He does not like getting into a car. this could be interesting.

Corey, get your wife any kind of chicken she desires. then it won't be long and she will be taking care of all of them..
