Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,
had a call about puppies at 6:30 AM.
might as well get up, I am awake now.

computer is still doing it's thing to annoy us.

won't give an internet connection.

I just got a new smart phone on Friday.
I didn't want it. Now I have to learn a new phone. I was just getting comfortable with my old fold up phone .
I haven't made a successful phone call yet,
but I can take good pictures..
I still haven't found the GPS .
it has computer capabilities, but I don't..

depending what the boss wants me to do, I would like to use up the last 8 bags of concrete today.
then I can start the fun part of framing up the new shed..

this is where we started yesterday.
there is a 2 ft section at the far end with a 4 ft section nearer. we poured a 4 ft section yesterday and will finish the last 2 ft section today if I am not sidetracked.
it is 7 ft from left to right.
that is a sidewalk to the right of the new slab. it leads to the door of the main coop.

Been an eventful weekend! Worked on the house and yesterday we celebrated my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. I was really nice to see the extended family on the hubby's side.

Packing up to head out once again; this time to stay in a hotel for the next 2 weeks.

I'll be happy once this is all over with. I need a week-long nap.....

Jim, gps is usually labeled maps. You crack me up btw.

I swear that no matter how hard I try I can not get everything done that I need to in a day. Going to try and get another batch of pickles and a batch of sauce done today. Along with house work and mowing the lawn.

thanks for the tip Daethen,
You were right.

bl4, funny how all those little things you are fixing up now, were plenty good enough for you while you lived there..

we are still fighting with the "service" with out computer . most of the time we can't get online.
Annie called (again) and they will have a tech "come right out".. Wednesday ????

I have only the last 22 inches of concrete to pour. Annie dragged me to town yesterday.
when I got home I got the final forms in. and then the rain came.
I might be able to get it done today. all I need is about an hour between rain drops.

Now I am thinking about selling my pair of geese. they are Toulouse x African.
He is very tame. we talk just about every day. If someone would be hiding in the bushes, they'd think I was crazy..

DH and I were setting up to sight in a couple of rifles, as I walked out to measure the 100 yard mark I started talking to the guinea hens who were hiding in the tall weeds in the field. DH kept saying "what", and I kept saying "just talking to the birds". Finally, the guineas came out on the path to tell us what they thought of our being there and he turns to me and says "Oh, our birds!"

BTW, How long to guineas live? anyone know? These birds were here when we moved in 3 years ago.

Hi all,
Been a while. Got my first weird egg last week...the shell was more like a thin layer of gelatin but perfectly formed. Odd chickens.
My roosters decided now they want to fight so one rooster lost part of a waddle and some blood, but is otherwise ok. This morning the chicken coop looked like a horror movie with blood everywhere, but all the chickens are fine???
However, the new Hampshire rooster who's been a pain since he was a chick is now showing signs of being a great rooster. Since losing part of his waddle to one of the other roosters he now dances for the hens and mating is going a lot smoother.
In other news, this last weekend we picked up 3 jersey steer calves. Growing them out for meat. It's been quite the experience so far!
That's all I got for now. Welcome to all the newbies!
Jim, hope you get your cement done. Weather is coming in quick.
Big, a couple pages back you mentioned frig dill pickles that last year's?! Would you mind sharing? I tried bread and butter pickles and they turned out horrible, need to finish my cukes and that recipe will not be repeated. I've always read frig pickles only last a couple weeks though (less if you eat them all! Haha)
Take care everyone!

still dealing with poor computer reception.

I don't know how long I will be on until I get knocked off..

rained on and off all day , today.

I brought the circular saw in to my favorite work bench,(kitchen table) and tore it open. cut the business end off of an extension cord and now the saw has a nice yellow cord. and the saw is a deWalt, so the cord matches the saw color.

only had a tuna sandwich to eat all day.
Annie is making meat loaf. she bought a package of pork, veal and lamb. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I would like to try that kind of meat loaf.

I picked a few ears of corn to go with the meat loaf and mashed potatoes.
it smells like it is close to supper time.

Jim, those little projects we could live with are all the remodeling projects that would reach 95% completion and then would not ever get finished. So now, with no time the DH is working like crazy to finish them.

I will never have another project completed by the DH; I will gladly spend the $ and pay someone to do it. I do not want to live in an unfinished house again.

Yep Jean I'm happy to share my pickle recipe with you. We get our glass gallon jars from a popular corner bar near here. They get olives in them for their cocktails...the half gallon jars we bough at fleet farm.
hi jean this is suzie...
i'll put the recipe down and hopefully try and explain how we do it!

Easy Gallon Jar Pickles
2 cups white vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup canning salt
Put in a quart jar and shake till dissolved (or clear) we usually do this first cuz it takes a bit to dissolve
Next....
In gallon jar layer fresh dill, sliced onion, and garlic clove .What I do is put a nice head of dill ,couple slices of onion and a few cloves of garlic in bottom of jar. Then I pack with pickles cut in spears (standing)till about half way up the jar then I add dill ,onion and garlic and then fill the rest of the jar with cukes, and then another dill, onion and garlic.
All to taste.
Slice 3-4 inch (maybe a little bigger) cukes into spears.
Then take your brine and pour that over the cukes: add cold water to fill the jar.
Put lid on and tip the jar from top to bottom and back a few times to mix.
check your time when your done and mark that on the calendar for 3 days later.
Leave them on the counter for 3 days repeating the the (shake) time once or twice a day.
On the third day of the time you started put them in the refrigerator at least a week! or longer.
Ready to eat!
Any questions please ask! This is an easy peasy recipe! We also do half gallons too Just split the brine recipe in half. enjoy and let us know how they turned out.
