Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Yeah, they sleep, and just like toddlers, it is a huge relief.. :lau
I am finally getting caught up on the planting . Last evening there was a deer right outside the kitchen window. Very close to my raised beds. I hope she didn't eat my beets or beans.
today I am going to work of the grapes. I weeded them a little already, they need a shot of fish tea.
........jiminwaUSAu.......

I went out early to get some work done in the flower beds.... ended up coming back in after an hour needing a shower.....

The chickens are not impressed.

Meaties have three more weeks before processing..... and I have only cooked up one from the first batch!

Working on a few other plans...... that I’ll share if they come to fruition.

I hope everyone had a great celebration yesterday; we really do live in the greatest country on Earth..... even with all our warts. 😊

We did meat birds 2 weeks ago - or was it 3, I don't remember. Any-hoo, as I was moving the frozen chicken packages form the freezer in the fridge to the chest freezer I found the stack of chicken from last time I did meat birds. So far I found 3 packs of 1/2 chickens, 2 packs of thighs, 3 packs of wings and 2 packages of bone in breasts.
DH no longer has the ability to nix my suggestion of chicken for supper, lol.
We bought a new Traeger Grill this weekend, so that will help motivate him to have chicken more often.

It’s an ice cream making day! I am making an ice cream cake for a meeting on Monday: angel food cake with vanilla custard and bourbon peach sorbet. I figured I needed to use up some eggs so why not make ice cream and angel food cake?

All the chickens are doing well. The new crop of laying hens have mixed in with the flock without issue save one rooster. I have a Favorelle/Marans cross that all the chickens picked on, so he has moved in with the meaties. Not sure what we will do with him when the meaties are butchered....... he is a sweetie so I think we will throne him to my daughters SIL’s home. Keeping the barred rock roo too, so now to decide what to do with the remaining two. maybe we will send them both up to the SIL’s house.....

Thats about it here.

extra roosters were never a problem here. they fit nicely into the freezer.
Nice weather after all that rain. My perennial garden is saturated. I won't have to water for a week. and by that time it should rain again.
My first crop of garlic is coming due for harvest. I hope the crop is not a dud. From the looks of the stems, It should be OK.
I got the grapes weeded and tied up to the wires. only 3 o 6 survived. I have a wild patch of concord where I can dig out some roots and transplant.
I saved the elderberry bush from the village idiot who mows the ditches. I parked my tractor bucket above/over the bush until he passed by..
He took the hint and spared the next bush farther up the hill, too.
Annie picked the black raspberries twice. She makes freezer jam . That is some gourmet eating right there.
She still can't walk too well, so she sits in the wheel chair and circles the patch.
It is just a round patch around the well casing. I figure it is equivalent to a 24 foot row. It grows each year from the canes touching and rooting.4 years ago it was just 3 or 4 canes that got planted from a bird pooping off the well casing.
This year there is a bird nest on top of the well casing. Cardinal, I think. He sings to me at 4:3o AM every day. Right outside the bedroom window..

Is'nt it nice of the little birdie to sing you awake ...
The birds at our house do the same thing, so we close the windows at 4 when the dogs demand to go outside and turn the room AC unit on to drown out the noises of nature.

Good to hear everyone is doing fine! The garden is going crazy and looking good. Cut a couple big heads of broccoli today and the green beans will need picking later this week.

Stay Safe...bigz

Neighbors horses decided to take a stroll through the neighborhood last night. 2 of them wandered through the gates to the orchard and enjoyed the long grass that needs to be cut. left me a couple piles in payment. At least they left the new apple trees alone.
Guess I need to get my butt in gear and put fencing on the gate frames to actually keep the deer and horses out of the area. The horses just ducked their heads and walked right through the closed gates, lol.
