Graupel is the official name of the styrofoam looking balls that aren't really sleet
+1 yah I didn't know till I read the news, wonder how many times I have seen graupel and thought it was sleet. lol.
We are at 1 to 4 eggs a day and some of the eggs are really small lol. Hopefully some of the new hens will start laying in next 2 or 3 months get egg production up. I need to get a bag soy bean meal so I can up the protein level some. Shelling and grinding corn today and start on mixing with chicken feed. My save a buck feed for winter. Ill add vitamins once a week or so to the water once snow stays, which will end the free ranging fresh bugs and grass.
I see farm and fleet raised their chicken feed agri master made by cargill, now on sale 14.99 regular 17.00. Suppose the others feeds will be more expensive also.

I dewormed when they needed it. not too often.
today I put the door onto the wood burner in the shop.
it warmed up quickly so that I didn't need a jacket.
outside temp was 43F.
I was burning plum tree wood. I tried splitting some.
not going to bother with that again. the ax just got stuck.
I think it would be interesting to turn it in a wood lathe.

Today was clean out the coop for winter day….. we also moved the chickens to clean up the garden leftovers. They don’t know where to start with this buffet…..

We got one egg today. I add corn to there diet in the winter and then feed them scrap fruits and veggies. What can i feed instead of grass? I use nutrena naturewise layer feed and it has gone up in price but i always get it on sale.

Thank you! We built one of those pre-fab sheds onto an old hay wagon running gear. I wanted a coop that was mobile so we could move the chickens to fresh grass as needed.

Since the floor of the coop is wood, even though it is coated I like to get in there 2x a year so the ammonia does not get horrific. I also sprinkle the back roost area with lime to neutralize the poo…..

Spoiled rotten chickens.

Anyone here deworm your chickens? I never have maybe i should?
Never had to deworm yet-for me, I will only do it if needed, not sure I need a preventative.

We are starting to see a rise in feed prices too, I went to Fleet Farm and got Sprout brand chick grower/starter and that is what I will feed through the winter for sure with oyster shell on the side. I have 5 1.5 year old, 3 11 week olds and starting this weekend 6 (if they all hatch) babies. Yep, a hen is sitting in the cold, silly chicken.

I am down to getting 2-3 eggs a day from 4 that are laying, not bad but I haven't seen a hard molt yet either-hopefully I just get a soft/slow molt from them all. Got the run all wrapped up and they are much happier as the winds have been crazy! Still getting scraps from canning and some of the not quite so ripe squash so the chickens are happy. Cat is in for the winter and dog is laying by the fire.

Chopped, hauled and stacked wood yesterday, preparing for what they say will be a cold winter. Brought home about 3 face cords yesterday, and have had the stove going since last week-darn draft old farmhouse :) Mice are crazy in the detached garage and barn too, lots in the traps lately-feral cats aren't doing their job, lol
