Raimnel, I think that might be the yolk sac. I am just guessing here though, I think you should probably blockade that chick from the others so they do not rupture the sac.......

It's been an icky few days. The fiance is sick with some sort of flu - he has a tendency to have extremely high fever spikes (to the point of causing seizures), it got up to 104 yesterday.

Seems to be getting over it now, he's up and about doing laundry as a type.

He has some bad news for me when I got home from work today - he was feeding the quail (almost fully feathered now!) this morning and set the 1 gallon waterer down on top of one. It didn't make it.

We're down to 51 quail now.

Wish I had been able to make it to the swap this morning!

Just wanted to say thanks for the birthday wishes - spent it comforting a coughy and snotty baby

but DH took DS1 with him to town so it was quiet at least. And he brought home yummy chocolate for me

Glad the swap was successful for many. Annarie, I think you need to keep that boy away from the birds. No luck it seems.

good morning, woke up at 3:45AM ; it doesn't take forever to condition me for swaps.. LOL

looks like 14 chicks from this hatch.. not a good %.. Now to see what they are going to turn out like.. will know in 12 weeks..
I hope the roosters are big and the hens lay big eggs.. 11 of them are black..3 are yellow.. I had barred rock roos over red star hens..

Last year I used my blue laced red wyandotte with similar hens and ended up with 71 pullets out of 84 eggs set..

the chicks outside are doing just great.. I will have to get another cage ready for these newbies..

I was thinking of overall cutting down on my flock.. I don't think this is the way to do it... LOL

too bad about crushing that chick with the water jug.. I have already set the 3 gallon water jug down in the coop with the big chickens and came back a couple of hours later to find one with her foot under it.. She was none the worse for it..Now I sort of sliiiiide it in and give it a slight twist before I set it down.. LOL

this year I am going to install light weight chains with hooks to the rafters to hang the waterers.. That will keep the jugs much cleaner.. inside as well as out.. some chickens think it is their DUTY to sit and sht on top of the water jugs..

eye Dr at 9AM.. same old , same old.. He wil say ," I don't see any change", and I will say, "well , I do.". here's your $$check$$..

It was nice to meet all of you at the swap.. Now when I type I can picture who I am talking to..

I will not be going to BD again.. too far to drive.. and it was quite unorganized.. I like the swaps where all the vehicles are parked in one area instead of scattered along the roadway helter skelter.. and besides; they didn't have any bar-b-que.. LOL

Finally got to go out and celebrate our anniversary last night! We went to Koreana's in Appleton so my sis and her hubby could have sushi (DH enjoys asian food so it was all good).... and we drank WAY too much wine

........ good thing we had a DD!!

Can I say how annoying it was to go to my in-laws Saturday night? My BIL make this big fuss to his parents about how they are coming to visit overnight, and that we were going to be coming over (I never committed to this since I had 2 kids sick with flu during the week); so of course we were railroaded into going over there (don't get me wrong I love my in-laws, but this ticked me off). Once there, my BIL is nowhere to be found, he is making stops on his way to the house visiting friends..... then when he does show up, he and the two kids sit and rot on computers the entire time we are there! I think my in-laws wanted us there so they would have somebody to talk to!

Now I have a question to ask all of you, because this sounded whacked out to me. The reason my BIL and kids were making this visit was due to his wife having a party at their house. They called it a 'diaper' party since it was for a co-worker of hers who's wife is expecting a child. No spouses were allowed and no kids........... just all her co-workers were supposed to be there.

Does this sound weird to anybody else???????

I would think that instead of uprooting the entire family, you would hold something like that at an alternative location........ I hope he had the brains to set up nanny cams around the house.......



Glad to see everyone had a good time at the swap! I hope everyone is getting ready for this next blast of winter! I know I am not looking forward to driving in it at all!!!

Happy anniversary! Jim sorry to hear about your early wake up, I hate when that happens! That was the things city slickers say thread probably in the first 20 pages. She was berating people for laughing at their ignorance. Big difference between ignorance and stupidity. Like I said think she had other issues. No sense of humor. I hear ya on the S&S on the waterers gonna hang mine this year or just keep using the ice cream pails that I used all winter set up on concrete blocks. A big WELCOME to MustLoveHens!!!! Glad you met a few of us even if it was THAT bunch.

Just had to, it was too easy. Sweetfolly that's too bad about the quail chick. Can understand it with so many lil ones in there but he should have been more careful, bet he felt bad. ODrH wow a lot high temps with this bug going around. Hope you can get some rest with chillins around. raimnel good luck with that chick! otonoh nice score! Now get out your check book.

If I remember correctly you were thinking of getting some pullets and not chicks? Think jvls1942 could help you out, he seems to have hatched too many again.

Better go look at my paint supply gonna primer today! Took the chains off the tractor in preperation for the March snow storm. And we're under a flood watch, the insurance kicks in midnight Thurs.

As long as we don't get at least 6" of rain we'll be fine. Sharpen up the snow shovels people!

Um so how did I get lumped into being with "That Bunch?!!"... I showed up I guess.. so now I have a rep?? KEWL!!

I am working with a lady who is going to order from farm and fleet.. I hope she will get Salmon Favorelles. She only wants one, so I would get the rest.
I can give them to Terri for her rooster.

My slightly sore throat, and little cough has turned into a full blown cold, with bronchitis.. I want to know how I get an infection while taking 2000mg of antibiotics
every day???

That new cochin hen is MEAN!! she won't leave the call duck alone OR the little frizzle rooster. I am going to take them to the farm this morning, but wanted to feed them
while I had some brekkies and coffee.
It was so wonderful to meet everyone, I wish I had met more, and gotten a female call duck...grrrr...
