Not sure since our offer was contingent on seeing it and finding it acceptable (since we live in FL we couldn't just run out and look and then put in an offer... it looked soooo charming we didn't want to risk losing it if it was good) and it passing inspection. Obviously her agent didn't inform her that if something turned up in inspection that was a problem we had the right to rescind our offer... or maybe to someone who informed our RE agent that she needed to disclose that the house is A) haunted and B) that when she does yard work dead people talk to her, that wouldn't make much sense! LOL

There is no official qualification to be a chicken vet. Any veterinarian, right out of vet school is licensed to practice medicine on any animal. More and more, vet schools are tracking people, so you less and less of the areas you aren't interested in and more specialty in what you are. You have options in vet school to take large animal vs. small animal, electives in wildlife, chickens, horses, whatever your interest. Some schools have better programs for certain animals - Florida, for instance in marine medicine. Some schools are better for surgery, others less. Some have fantastic equine programs, some have the bare minimum. All depends on your training and your interests.

Veterinary boards are for all species, so you have to be able to answer the basics on all animals (unless they've changed it since I went to school).

Now the specialties are a bit different. The college of veterinary surgeons, for example, board you in either large or small animal.

There are tons of vets out there specializing in some niche that there isn't necessarily an official boarded specialty in.

So, yes, small animal (dog and cat) vets can see exotics, they can see chickens, they can see a giraffe if they feel so qualified. Most vets are going to tell you what they feel comfortable in. I do surgery, I am not the one you want to see for your diabetic cat.

I had to learn about chickens and pass boards with questions on them, but now 13 years later, I'm having to reread that stuff as it was round filed from my brain a long time ago. Most people that see chickens either see them as a side to everything else they see or they are the "chicken guy/gal" at their practice or they specialize and do the veterinary health maintenance for large poultry farms.

Congrats DK!!! we will be almost neighbors!

Well Went and saw Joan today, she is ticked she can't be at home to "supervise" things.. aka boss her daughters around. She did get to see one of her great granddaughters today though.
There was hope that there was a small chance she might go home today, but she can get some great and aggressive therapy in the hospital. So will be in till at least Weds.
She has all her faculties, but some paralysis of her tongue on one side, so her speech is a tiny bit slurred.

rehomed all but my big roo, and kept most of my bantams.
I can keep them there as long as Joan doesn't have to feed them or feel that she has to sell the eggs.
6 went to good friends around the corner from Joan's and the rest went to a 4H show home.

So things are looking up, still don't know if I have to move the horses or not. I think I should, but will wait till next weekend to discuss it with the person where they would be going.

Till laters
Carol

I think therefor I cluck...
