Good morning all! I slept poorly AGAIN! Thought about coming down here to see if anyone was on line to chat! I think I laid up there looking at the ceiling for 3 hours. Now I am up...but need a nap.
Carol, your KMH looks just like my RMH! I think they really are the same breed? Not sure about that though. What color is yours..Chocolate? Red chocolate? I couldnt tell from the pic. Nice looking though...we really need to get together and ride! And the rest of you riders as well! If we ever have some decent weather that is...just got my horses trimmed and I feel like it was a waste of $$...am I ever going to be able to ride them?
Cool about the goats RAIM! Ya know on all other forums my name is Goatlady! I dont have too many right now...they are getting elderly...too bad you arent up here right now DKV...I have a nice pygmy wether that is trained to walk on a leash--really nice boy! All I can say about goats is watch out for your gardens and Nightshade will (and does) kill them and yes they will eat it. Any trees will no longer have bark and little pines are doomed. Give them all the trimmings from the trees with leaves and they will strip them to white wood. But dont give them wilted plum or cherry--gotta be fresh! (or it's poison) They love 100% alfalfa hay and horse sweet feed. Go easy on that though. If you have crappy hay they will let you know by standing on it and peeing on it! And dont feed moldy or it will bloat them up. THey cant exist on just grass like sheep, they need to browse like deer. OK--there is your crash course! Good luck!
Celtic--yes I have found that if I am not here daily it takes forever to read back! You did a really good job on commenting on the important stuff though! I get so boggled on who said what that I have to open 2 tabs to go back and forth and post as I read...yeah, old.
DrH--I hope you get to woe today...it is very windy, damp and gray here...kind of a soup day I think! I wanted to spray a bit of Round-up on the garden fence lines...not today! That seems to be the only way I can keep the Creeping Charlie out of there.. I swear that stuff grows 6" a day! It is a never ending battle around here for sure. Of course most of our lawn is covered by it so there is always a new supply!
Ya know, I was just thinking today, "what in the world am I going to do with all these chickens?" I still have to get the blue Ameraucanas out of the basement and I have no where to go with them!
Good thing I bought a dog kennel at a rummage the other day...I think I will be doing something with that. I also need to decide what roos I want to keep and dump the rest. Instead of simplifying I am growing!
On a good note though I may be getting a bit of help in the garden. DD25s BF has expressed an interest in helping me with it. I guess when his Mom was alive they used to garden together. (but the she got too bossy) Oh oh--I better keep my mouth shut hey? My kids have absolutely no interest in gardening and I can only get DH to help once in a blue moon! THey sure dont have any problems eating from it though! In many respects I feel like that Little Red Hen in the fairytale! THe only time they wanted to help a little was when they were really too small to do too much! I know that my eldest helped with digging potatoes when she was 4...got the pics to prove it too! Actually I think it was because she could play in the dirt...what happened?
I still think it would be really neat if we all were neighbors and we could help each other! Now that would be cool! Working in the day and sitting on the porches at night...you guys can have your beer (
) and I guess I get my brandy and Coke. Of course BL4 could bring the wine...can you see it? Pies and cakes and canning to share. Horseback riding when the work was done. Big breakfasts of eggs and bacon on the weekends and lots of meetings around the picnic tables! Us wanna be grandmas could watch the little ones so the young ones could have some time away or a night out. Then they could do our chores so we could sleep in sometimes...oh the world I could weave in my imagination.... Of course maybe we wouldnt be such good friends if we all lived close? Nah! It would be fantastic!
Well, I guess I really should get moving...time really slips away chatting with friends! Have a great day--Terri O
