Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all! I slept poorly AGAIN! Thought about coming down here to see if anyone was on line to chat! I think I laid up there looking at the ceiling for 3 hours. Now I am up...but need a nap.

Carol, your KMH looks just like my RMH! I think they really are the same breed? Not sure about that though. What color is yours..Chocolate? Red chocolate? I couldnt tell from the pic. Nice looking though...we really need to get together and ride! And the rest of you riders as well! If we ever have some decent weather that is...just got my horses trimmed and I feel like it was a waste of $$...am I ever going to be able to ride them?

Cool about the goats RAIM! Ya know on all other forums my name is Goatlady! I dont have too many right now...they are getting elderly...too bad you arent up here right now DKV...I have a nice pygmy wether that is trained to walk on a leash--really nice boy! All I can say about goats is watch out for your gardens and Nightshade will (and does) kill them and yes they will eat it. Any trees will no longer have bark and little pines are doomed. Give them all the trimmings from the trees with leaves and they will strip them to white wood. But dont give them wilted plum or cherry--gotta be fresh! (or it's poison) They love 100% alfalfa hay and horse sweet feed. Go easy on that though. If you have crappy hay they will let you know by standing on it and peeing on it! And dont feed moldy or it will bloat them up. THey cant exist on just grass like sheep, they need to browse like deer. OK--there is your crash course! Good luck!

Celtic--yes I have found that if I am not here daily it takes forever to read back! You did a really good job on commenting on the important stuff though! I get so boggled on who said what that I have to open 2 tabs to go back and forth and post as I read...yeah, old.

DrH--I hope you get to woe today...it is very windy, damp and gray here...kind of a soup day I think! I wanted to spray a bit of Round-up on the garden fence lines...not today! That seems to be the only way I can keep the Creeping Charlie out of there.. I swear that stuff grows 6" a day! It is a never ending battle around here for sure. Of course most of our lawn is covered by it so there is always a new supply!

Ya know, I was just thinking today, "what in the world am I going to do with all these chickens?" I still have to get the blue Ameraucanas out of the basement and I have no where to go with them!
ep.gif
Good thing I bought a dog kennel at a rummage the other day...I think I will be doing something with that. I also need to decide what roos I want to keep and dump the rest. Instead of simplifying I am growing!

On a good note though I may be getting a bit of help in the garden. DD25s BF has expressed an interest in helping me with it. I guess when his Mom was alive they used to garden together. (but the she got too bossy) Oh oh--I better keep my mouth shut hey? My kids have absolutely no interest in gardening and I can only get DH to help once in a blue moon! THey sure dont have any problems eating from it though! In many respects I feel like that Little Red Hen in the fairytale! THe only time they wanted to help a little was when they were really too small to do too much! I know that my eldest helped with digging potatoes when she was 4...got the pics to prove it too! Actually I think it was because she could play in the dirt...what happened?

I still think it would be really neat if we all were neighbors and we could help each other! Now that would be cool! Working in the day and sitting on the porches at night...you guys can have your beer (
smack.gif
) and I guess I get my brandy and Coke. Of course BL4 could bring the wine...can you see it? Pies and cakes and canning to share. Horseback riding when the work was done. Big breakfasts of eggs and bacon on the weekends and lots of meetings around the picnic tables! Us wanna be grandmas could watch the little ones so the young ones could have some time away or a night out. Then they could do our chores so we could sleep in sometimes...oh the world I could weave in my imagination.... Of course maybe we wouldnt be such good friends if we all lived close? Nah! It would be fantastic!

Well, I guess I really should get moving...time really slips away chatting with friends! Have a great day--Terri O

Happy Beautiful Morning, everyone. I love cool, pretty days like today.

Working on packing up for Aussie Nationals, got 3 dogs bathed, 1 more to do, then grooming. 2 haven't been show groomed in forever so that's going to take a while. Got to get the van loaded up, crates, grooming tables, expens, blowers, grooming supplies, plus all the stuff that'll be needed for the week for 4 dogs and me. Have to work tomorrow then take off for St. Louis. Looking forward to seeing all my show friends and all the gorgeous dogs. Should be fun.

Better go finish chores and get to work on those dogs!

Terri O you painted such a lovely picture of life among friends. Kinda like the concept of communes in the 60's only without the drugs! A couple of times a year I'll have a rum and coke, that's about as "wild" as I get these days. Sorry you've been having trouble sleeping. I've had the same problem the past two nights. Last night was BIG storms, lots of thunder, woke me up and I threw back the covers and was going to check on Stanley (who was terrified of storms) and was 1/2 way out of bed before I remembered ... he's safe from storms now. Made for a rough night.

Sure wish we'd been able to find a suitable home w/acreage, I was so hoping for a horse. Had a great little quarter horse when I was a kid. Now I'll be lucky where I am to be able to sneak in a goat or two, and you KNOW I'm gonna try! I mentioned it to DH awhile back and he said "what the hedoublehockeysticks are we going to do with goats?" Well DUH, have fun of course!

DH just drove out to the house, septic work is complete, so it won't hold up closing tomorrow! YAY!!! He met the neighbor who owns the property on the other side of us that we would also like to buy and she is elderly and he said she's very sweet. Has a cute little dog and he told the dog that in a couple of weeks the free biscuits will be moving in next door! The lady asked if we had dogs and he told her about Murphy and she wanted to know if Sophie could play with him. How cute. Something tells me we maybe able to get the price on that property to come down enough to get it

He also met the neighbor directly across the street and said he's a real odd one.
hu.gif
I think I'm odd so... he also said it was about 40 degrees there today and very windy. God I AM going to freeze there! But it won't feel so cold among the warmth of friends, right?

Can't tell you how excited I am about moving up there and meeting some of you folks. Was hoping I'd be able to make the bash this summer, but think we'll be up to our eyeballs getting things done this summer, but next year for sure!

Have a WONDERFUL day all!

dk Quite awhile back when I was first getting to know these fine folks I talked about all of us buying up a beautiful valley in SW Wi. and how cool it would be to have everyone for neighbors. Your right though think it would end up like any utopia, Hatfields and McCoys. Humans is so stupid! That has to be the all time greatest goat story I've ever heard! What a cool memory! Glad the new home is coming together and no matter where you live your always gonna have that one neighbor.... in the perfect valley! Keep your shootin iron handy and your powder dry. Really hope you can make the Bash this year! TO hope you get a nap in sometime today! Yes I got my lawn woe'd
lol.png
poor tired baby! Think we'd have to have a central lodge for hoe downs n such with a tin covered porch over looking a pond with geese an ducks for sittin an jawin while watching the rain come up the valley sippin beverages of our choice. Feet up on the rail too. Speculating how much we were gonna get?

Dang near had Peatwo asleep on my lap from the attention. L was cleaning house so no pics yet. No aprons on yet can't get close enough to Btwo to grab her for some reason.

Took some more farm pics...looks like it's HATCHING DAY! YES! A hen hatched a guinea baby for me!!! Here are the two from her nest so far...there are a bunch more eggs that she and a duck are sitting on. I threw the guinea egg in there just for kicks! Sorry it's so blurry but I was trying not to let them fall while holding the camera and the really MAD hen off of me! LOL!

Then I checked on another one and heard peeping under here:
46457_img_0311.jpg

So I lifted her up and saw this!
46457_img_0314.jpg

There are a few more eggs to go but I think I counted 9 so far?
Figured I oughta take a look at some others...no eggs hatched under the call yet; but she has 5 days to go...here are the baby pigeons from a few weeks back now:
46457_img_0329.jpg

And here are the new ones!
46457_img_0328.jpg

She already had an egg towards her third clutch for the year! Pigeons are really busy birds...I am planning on flying them this year too!
In other species news...since we were talking about goats:
46457_img_0318.jpg

The black one is the pygmy I was talking about. I couldnt leave out the lambs...here are Ben and Beth:
46457_img_0331.jpg

This is just the opposite of what this ewe did last year. This year the female is white last year reversed! So now we are moving into the house and I see my new baby finches are out! What a day for babies! These are the English Zebras:
46457_img_0308.jpg

There are 4 that look just alike. Then here are the regular Zebras:
46457_img_0306.jpg

There are two out and there might be more in the nest. I think these may be pied like the one that came out last week! It must be in the genes of the new ones I bought because the ones I hatched out previously were all normal in color! For the grand finale I opened the parrot nest to look for eggs...nope not yet...I gave them some timothy hay to play with to put them "in the mood."
Now I have to go down and clean out the basement chickens AGAIN! I hope you enjoyed the mid-day tour of Oppyland Farms! (I will get the horses next time!) Terri O

(PS) DKV--yup that's what I was thinking when I wrote it! Those didnt really work did they? Maybe it was the drugs...

ETA: I think my button might be broody!!! She has been sitting on some eggs most of the morning now....we will see!

Oh yeah; one last pic of some of the varied assortment of eggs I picked up this morning!
46457_img_0300.jpg

That big one has GOT to be a double yolker!

Terri O, will you adopt me? please???

I'll help in the garden. Quite the lovely menagerie you have there! Chicks, one and all are adorable. And those cute little goats, how sweet.

Dr H I'll do my best to make the bash, I'd love to meet you all. It looks like quite a hike though, not sure DH will be up for a road trip, course it would be three weeks after we got there. But we do have one 5 hour trip (one way) to pick up new dog in the second week we are there. Although I could come up for the day alone, how lost could I possibly get???? Unfortunately I can't say at this point, and I hate to be a last minute drop in kinda person...

Last minute drop in is FINE! We all want to meet you! Heck--you will be the only one with a tan--LOL! Where are you going to get a new dog? That is always exciting. I hope you are getting one from a rescue...that is one thing I havent had this year is puppies! i will have to call SFTS and see if I can get some here....LOL--just what I need right?
OK I really have to work now! Terri O
(PS) DKV--I am not far away and you are welcome in my garden any time!

Terri,

cute pictures, I have never heard of English finches. They are lovely. I have regular zebras, javas , canaries and a parrotlet. I will have to keep my eyes peeled for English finches.

I got busy today , Mowed the yard and made the ramp for the coop and covered the summer run. Now need to research where to put the food/water inside the coop or out in the run

enjoy the sun

David

Terri O, I will not be sporting a tan! LOL I'm about the whitest shade of white you can find and now I have to stay out of the sun because of the antibiotics, so I'll probably be glowing by the time we meet! And I promise I'll do my best to attend.

The new dog is in Mt. Olive Michigan, have to take the ferry over. Planning an overnight trip w/Murphy. He's at a shelter, a pit mix who's about 8 months old, loveable, good w/dogs, cats, kids and at this point doesn't bark, as he's totally deaf. Was fostered for awhile and was learning hand signals, but ended up back at shelter. Lots of folks were interested in him until they found out he was deaf. DH works from home most of the time and I'll only be working part time, so we'll have time to work with him on signal training. Here's his picture from the shelter.
