Geesh - 6 pages to catch up on since last time I was here!
BL4 - The Call eggs will probably get a bit smaller for a little while, the girls may start laying half as many eggs for a week or two, and then they'll start up again. My Khaki Campbell girls used to go through cycles of that all summer long. I've been kind of expecting my two Call girls to take a little break - they're laying better than the Hookbills right now!
Second house showing went great, they're looking for a copy of our original home inspection from when we bought the place (or, when Will bought the place, I should say - because I NEVER would have let him buy this place!
), and two years worth of electric bills (the house is all electric heat), and they want to know what kind of repairs we're willing to do if anything serious comes up in their own inspection of the place. It sounds like they're really serious.
And the house has only officially been on the market for 2 weeks!
I candled all the eggs in the new (to me) cabinet incubator today and they're doing GREAT! No fertility on my Mottled Cochin eggs (dang it!
), a few early quitters (all Calls
), and I had a bunch of Hookbill eggs in there that were clear, but those eggs sat for about a week without being turned at all before I set them, so that's to be expected. I have another batch of Hookbill eggs that were supposed to ship out yesterday, but I never received payment for them, so they're going in the 'bator yet tonight too!
Anyways, lots to do! Got a B on my Psychology final
, and I have a final Lit paper to finish yet tonight!
EDIT - OMG!
The very second I posted this I heard a really loud peep coming from my hatcher down in the basement. Will and I have been hearing peeping for 2 days now, but we were pretty sure all the eggs in the hatcher were dead, and couldn't find anything close to hatching in the
Brinsea incubator in the house. Well, I went and double-checked again, picked up a Columbian Cochin egg in the hatcher, and lo and behold - it was pipped on the wrong end of the egg! I have the egg out of the carton now and wrapped in a wet rag (I didn't think I had anything hatching, so the humidity in the hatcher is about 35% right now), but the baby is screaming away and making progress! Looks like he'll be out by morning! I knew I had 2 or 3 Cochin eggs that got put into the incubator upside down for the first week and a half of incubation - wish I had thought of that before I put it upright in an egg carton to hatch! I had pretty much given up on this egg two days ago when it wasn't showing any signs of internally pipping!
