congratulations. It takes a special person to adopt a dog like him. I have 2 blind dogs and they are members of the family

Thanks David, we're very excited about him. Glad to hear you have some special pooches too. All animals deserve a loving family and I admire those who can open their hearts to special needs animals.

HI All,
Well...Things went well till we left to run some errands and came home to two dismembered chicks spread out across all of the house.
For years my dogs have been so good with the chickens at the farm and the chicks I have had at the old house and here....
Well I guess it was time. While I didn't lay a hand on them, I did use a very LOW and serious voice on them, and tied them up outside...
They are still out there, its been about an hour now. I will never leave the door in the kitchen open again.
We have two doors, one that goes from a landing outside and when you come in, you make an immediate left to go into the house, but
you need to open a door. FROM the landing it goes down into the basement and that is where the chicks are.
Hurley/ODrH gave me a pair of silkies, and the younger one is still here at the house, I got an Iowa Blue for her and another chick.
AND got for free a production red and a special black to bring to the bash (both pullets), and two other chicks... needless to say
the two other chicks, are the ones that were killed.
SO Hurley's are OK, and the silkie and laying pullets are good... but still we found feathers everywhere, and well I won't go into more detail.

Sigh....

Man--we have certainly had some bad stuff happening with dogs, cats and wild things this spring! Sorry to hear about yours Carol! They need to leave our birdies alone! I think my dinner might be done...cornflake chicken , mashed spuds/garlic and sour cream and corn on the cob! MMMM--I guess I'd better mash the spuds...I am hungry! Terri O

Evening All!

@ bl4-yes as a hen ages her eggs get smaller until she no longer lays. Hens usually become "egg bound" at this point and pass over. However, I say that with a total grain of salt since most of mine in the past have survived "the change" and have gone on to live fat, sassy, and completely unproductive lives.

@ Carol-so sorry about your chicks

@ Hurley-Good luck at the dog show!

@ dk1-the new dog you have on tap sure is beautiful! It's awsome that you are willing to take a deaf dog.

I have a goat story for y'all! Dh and I ended up with a boer goat we got at a 4-H/FFA Youth auction at our county fair. That year the goats were the last to go through the auction and no one was bidding so long story short, we ended up with Chopper. Now Choppie was a great goat and he played with our dog and never understood why he had to stay outside when the dog came inside with us. Eventually he accepted that he had to stay outside. He also could open anything. Locked or not he could open it. I swear he had goat lock pics for lips. We watched what he ate very carefully since he was prone to bloat. One day he managed to get his goat ration container opened. It was double locked and sealed and to this day I have no idea how he did it. Anywho, he bloated and we took him to the local equine hospital where they treated him for his bloat. He stayed at the hospital for a few days to get treated and recover. When it was time to come home, I got a call from the hospital asking if it would be alright if they could keep Chop-Chop (as they called him) for a few extra days. It turned out that Chopper was playing mid-wife (mid-goat?) to a pregnant mare who was due to foal any day. She was a very nervous and high strung mare and they were concerned that she would have trouble giving birth since she was late in getting around to birthing. After many tries in other stalls to calm her, she ended up in the stall next to Chopper and fell in love with him. She calmed right down and stayed right next to him. If they took him for his afternoon walk/romp with the clinic dogs, she'd freak out until he came back. So Chopper was needed to help her and he stayed with her for another 5 days until she foaled. The mare eventually had the kid with no complications and from what the staff told me, Chopper was with her every step of the way. The first thing the foal saw was Choppers face! The mare recovered like a pro and left the hospital. Chopper came home none the worse for wear and proceeded to do his favorite activity. Taking apart all of the garden decor. It was Big Goat Fun to tear down all of the wind mills.

So, anyway, I met a super awsome BYC'er and her dh today! Hens and Roos! I got a Wheaten Ameraucana from her! I made a little innocent post about going through wanting an Ameraucana for some reason and she pounced!! LOL!!! A total and complete enabler!!

I got a "new"couch at a store that takes in donations for a homeless shelter. Since I have the 8 dogs, I cant see spending serious $$$$ for a new one, so I buy second hand couches. The "porch" couch has a few tears and such, but I'm going to cover it with an old blanket and the the dh and I can sit and watch the world go by on nights this summer. I'll probably take it to the dump in the fall.

Well, I better go check on Valerie, she how she's doing...have a great night all!!
Cheers!

I go to a party and you've all left a book to read! Such busy peoples! Carol, I'm so sorry about your babies. That's so sad.

Terri, your post about sharing made me feel all warm and fuzzy. I get to share some things like that with some of my neighbors..especiallly when it comes to baling time. Snacks and drinks during; a huge community meal after. It's great, I tell you. Your animals are adorable. We might have to chat about goats at the bash! (pony might need a companion soon)

Dk that pit mix looks like such a sweetie. And pits are so smart, I bet he'll be easy to train. Lucky you!

Time to crash..DS has graduated!!! Yippee!!

MLH, this call is barely a year old so I do not think she is quite ready to keel over from old age. I was wondering if the calls would just start laying smaller eggs as they wind down for the season. So far today I have no found any eggs...........

The horses were not what my friend wanted, the first was in need af a good spanking, the second was a bit too skittish. Anybody know of a good solid quarter horse (over 15HH or going to be) for sale under $1000 and between the ages of 3 and 8??????

TO, we think alike! So, if anybody wants to move..... there is a farm for sale just North of Lake Poygan; over 100 acres, barns, house, the works.........

Ok, off to watch MacGyver with the kids!

MLH what a gorgeous goat and what a wonderful story! What a beautiful hen you got from H&R!
