Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Just for those who didnt notice, I was gone for days.. I got back last night just before dark.. The chicken coop turned out great.. I hated to leave it behind.. Naturally the crowd of volunteers I was promised did not show up.. big surprise, eh? The one guy who did show up was a 2nd year carpenter apprentice.. A good worker.. someone I could let go and not have to babysit.. we framed the whole thing up the first day..

I took a few pictures..

the people own this huge farm plus they manfacture trailers plus they own the Red Mouse just down the road on cth P..good food....

I still have about 4 pages of reading to do here to catch up..

I have 28 new Americauna chicks and about 28 Barred rocks..
I think 4 or 5 more turkey ,,sand there are 2 goose pipped this morning.. Annie was busy while I was gone,eh??..

Nope--sorry, no escape at all!

Good morning (BTW)--and a bright sunny one it is! I have the day off...and now EVERY Tuesday so I am psyched! Lord, please make every Tuesday for the rest of the season nice and bright like this one...

I am full of hope that I can get the garden rolling today! But first I need my coffee and a chat with my BYC friends!
Carol I will see you at the mill in Milton! I do have a client that day but will take care of him early so I can get there. MLH is that the new place that they just built just past Milton on the left going to Janesville? By the new stoplight and road? Milton is not very big...that is too bad that you have a wedding to attend the weekend of the bash! And it's in the wrong direction so you cant even slip out for a bit!
hit.gif
Well we will just have to have a mini meet right there at the mill! Carol you must bring Kristip! If there are 4 of us then we can call it a meet up! Hmmm--wonder if Hurley would come too? Anyone else planning on the tour? Just thought of something...wouldnt it be cool if we had our shirts by then? [Hint Hint!] That is only a little before the bash weekend....

So I got the eggs in the mail yesterday from the auction I won. They are a mixed bag from Revolutionmama. I am hoping I have some luck with these. Sumatra, Polish, buckeye, a blue one, two tiny ones labeled "sum" and two labeled "J" no idea what those are but I am going to look at the auction and see what they might be.

Well, I suppose I have to stop typing and start moving...lots to accomplish today! DrH it seems like you get more done than me before I even finish my first cup! I used to be such a morning person....I blame it on BYC!

Have a fantastic (and productive) day! Terri O

WOW, I thought I was caught up with all the pages and no such luck. I have to go back a few days now again.

So will reply later.

Lost a baby lavender Dutch Bantam yesterday. One of the chicks from my Ideal hatchery Order. Poor little shaver. I was going to call him Hope but changed his name to Little fighter. He was the size of a hummingbird. Never did see him eat !! He/she would drink alot of water so I made sure I had vitamins and such in the water.
Pulverized the food for all of the tiny bantams.

So anyway, WELCOME BACK JIM, You've been gone so long I think a

is in order !! Missed Ya !!

Very nice weather up here in Nashville (7 miles West of Crandon), guess the housework will have to wait (again) cause it's to nice to be inside !!

Will try to catch up with all the previous posts tonight. I think we should all take a day off from here so it will give us slackers (speaking for myself) time to catch up with all of the posts !!!

Hi everyone!!! - Super AWESOME news.

One of my silkies hatched 2 chicks (6 eggs total from a nearby farm that has a CLUSTER of all kinds of chicken breeds). I dont have a rooster so I bought some eggs from a nearby farm and the hen hatched two beautiful chicks (one black with a white spot on the head and one cinammon color, kind of like blue laced coloring). The other four eggs were really porous and I didnt think they will hatch but I let her try anyhow (they obviously did not hatch).

My kids are super excited...and so am I. After all this is my first hatch since I was 13-14 yrs old (that's like 10 years ago). SO MUCH FUN!

Got 2 pips this morning in the broody eggs!! And peeping and rocking, oh its eggciting! Gonna go out with camera and camcorder, see what we can capture on film. My first time hatching anything, and so far so good.

Terri, oh how I love the chicken community commune (CCC?) you described - especially the part about new momma's getting some time off!

I also have a great sittin' & schmoozin' spot - you're all welcome any time.

Kingdr- so kewl I did the same last year with a broodie silkie I have. I THINK the one that is black with the white spot will be a boy, there are a few out there that are sex link, if crossed with a barred rock.
Congrats though!!!

I have to go mow the triangle, move clothes upstairs and then try to get the burrs out of the manes and tails of my horses...they decided to find the burrs, and have a spa day with them... BLEH!!

I was thinking the same thing (about being a boy because of the spot). Ill try to post pics later (once I do the wing sex thing...see if it matches the spot on the head). THAT PICTURES IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

My homefarm is on the edge of town/country, and guess what one of my roosters did? He hoofed it about a quarter mile to the local park! My brother saw him while riding the bus back from school, and my family ended up catching him by cornering him on the tennis courts. My understanding is that chickens only really roam about 200 feet from where they roost, and this is the first time mine have shown me anything different. I'm guessing it is because we currently have a shortage of hens, and he was braveing the world in search of new girls, kinda like that cougar we had go through the state. Until he gets rehomed in a couple weeks, he is in chicken jail.

jvls welcome back!!! sorry the voluteers didn't show, but then that isn't all that unusual

TO good luck with your hatch. Just saw doc who is not totally convinced it's Lyme disease (didn't have enough "reactives" in the test to be certain - unreliable tests tend to be... uh... unreliable??? ) But symptoms are what he's basing treatment on at moment. Said to retest in 3-4 months if meds don't do the trick and then start looking at other things... I may have to call you Dr. TO in the future!

FT so sorry about your lavender baby.

kingdr congrats on the babies, can't wait for pics speaking of pics nice shot Amy

Ms Frizzle, awww, little roo wanted to play at the park

he probably saw the tennis court and wondered how big the birds were that used that run... sorry.. just so many things popping in my head with that cute story... tiny little tape measure so he knows what 200' looks like... ahhh the wandering of a warped and twisted mind. I did enjoy the story!

Well off the grocery store ugh. Then finally some breakfast and then pack up the car to take some stuff to goodwill. DH just scrubbed new house top to bottom so when we arrive there in a couple of week it's all sparkly. He's such a good egg. I've got about everything I can done for the most part here... he has to tackle his office, sort though his clothes and the garage is strickly off limits to me.I honestly don't know why, he can never find anything anyway, now much worse could I make it??? Other than that just about everything non-essential is packed and ready to go. Don't know how I"m going to get through the next 2 weeks, I'm ready to throw some stuff in the car and GO!!! Can't wait to see the house, I've only seen the pics, let him do the shopping.

OKay, I've delayed this grocery shopping thing as long as possible... sigh.

Celtic) Hey! You are really close to me! Yes, I live in Big Bend. We drive to Mukwonago all the time to go to Home Depot and Walmart (bleh!) out there. Altho now they opened a new walmart in Muskegoish, so we go to that one too. They are really the same distance from our house. Our sitter lives in Vernon out on Center. I wasn't planning to go to the bash, with hubby working insane hours, and me going back to work I think it may be best to wait until next year

Sorry guys!

Well I put the kids in daycare today. I just about lost it yesterday and ended up taking out my aggression on a grilled cheese sandwich with a spatula! So, I am going to work in the garden after this post and get a lot of stuff I wanted done. I got 3 blueberry bushes that need to get in the ground, weeds to pull, straw to lay in by the onions, herb bucket to plant, lettuce seeds to sow (I hope it's not too late, I forgot these!) and radishes to thin! Ed says I can also have tonight to go out and do something, so I am going to go to the bookstore and read

Started hardening off my mater and pepper seedlings...they just aren't getting as big as fast as I would like under those lights. So, time to shoo them into the real light. I'm gonna make a little duck manure tea (or just use their bath water, YEECH! Ducks are soo gross!) and give em a little fertilizer too. I think they need a little push. Plant out date is June 1st!

BL4) You are having a rough May

I hope the rest of the month goes great for you!
