Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good evening! That is terrible BL4! Just the thought of what that poor woman's family must be going through---and that sentence is totally unreal! I think they should put him on a moped and have some kind of stunt driver zoom up behind like he was going to run him over...then throw him in jail for a looong time! (if he didnt die of a heart attack avoiding the stunt driver!)

I cant believe how late it is already! Had some leftovers for dinner and ice cream for desert....now I am hungry for something salty! Maybe I will just go out and lock up and go to bed...I actually have most of the day off tomorrow! I am hoping to make some headway in the garden. I really want to get it tilled, but it has been so windy that I cant gather and burn all the stuff in there and spray the edges with round-up! I really dont want to fight that creeping charlie all summer!

I sure hope that everyone can get to the bash! I am sure it will be even more fun that last year. Everyone needs to start thinking of their white elephant gift! We will do a pirate exchange again so stealing is allowed. It doesnt have to be something chicken related. Hot items last year were canned blueberries and Syrup. Although, I really dont think they actually qualified as white elephants! The definition is: "Something useful; but you yourself dont want it!" Well, I guess they do qualify then...I guess if you have 100 jars then you dont need or want the 101st!

I must be way too tired to think what I wanted to say...so I guess I will just say goodnight! Oh yeah, I did want to tell DKV that muskovy ducks dont make any noise at all! Just kind of a hissing noise, that is why Raimnel wants "ducks that quack!"
Sweet dreams everyone! Terri O (PS) Dont post too early tomorrow, I want to sleep in!

big z good folks, poultry AND plants? Y'all sure make it hard to resist! Any guess about how far it is from Janesville or Madison to where the bash is? And if I can come I'll even let you bet on how many times I get lost enroute!

LOL shanti I'm afraid to mention ducks, DH thinks I'm nuts wanting chickens and goats! May take awhile before I can add to that list!

keedokes so sorry about you chick. I hope the other pulls through. Cute story about the cat. When DDs were little sprouts we lived on an 80 acre property and the drive was about 1/4 and we walked it twice a day to put oldest on bus to school. Always had to laugh at the entrourage that followed us, three dogs with the cat bringing up the rear. Love your cats name. We have a rescue named Tootsie Roll and she's a roll all right! The moving guy saw her run up the steps the other day and said "I just saw your cougar run up the stairs"! Yeah, she's huge!

baby, so sorry for your loss. As for DUI punishment none of that makes sense.

Celtic, yeah, I'm quite a way SW of you it looks like. LOL airheadedness... I just tried to post this 3 times and kept exiting explorer before I was done, I was trying to look at our mapping software and was having trouble spelling mukwanago so I was flipping back and forth... okay flipping out would be more accurate! LOL I'm usually a bit scattered, but this is ridiculous... I've noticed a definate increase in spaciness since the Lyme disease stuff started (and it's only intensified with the meds, although according to a thing DH heard on NPR the symptoms should be gone around day 10... 4 more days and we'll see if that's true!)

Evening all!

BL4-Im sorry to hear about your friend. I also cannot believe the sentence for the DUI....that is really sad that he did not get a sentence that was harder. Makes me kinda wonder who he knew...

Keedokes-that's to bad about your chicks....I liked your cat story. I had a cat when I was growing up, Mr.T. The "T" stood for trouble since his first act upon coming home as a kitten was to climb the curtains and of course the crashed down. Mom said you are gonna be trouble, so he was Mr. T. He used to walk with us everywhere. He'd hide in the bushes or in leaves then pounce on the dog as we passed his hiding place. Then he would take off and hide again and pounce again...he'd do this the whole walk.

DrH-that sure was nice of Peatwo to "feed" you!

dk1-that is a nice house!! Im so jelous(sp)!

I so want to go to the Bash, but I have a wedding down in IL to go to that Saturday! I'm happy for the wedding but bummed that I can't meet y'all!!

Well, dh and I picked up all of the poultry bodies for the seminar. I have to say baby ducks are freaking cute! NO!!! I do NOT want a duck!! Ok maybe a Call..someday....way down the raod someday....Calls are sure cute little things! Anywho, we set up the little ones in their basement pools but I could not get them regulated well so we moved them upstairs to the second floor. They liked that much better and settled in nicely. The Cornish Crosses were the worst "bunchers" of the group. Once they got some water and a little food, they got more comfortable and spread out in their brooder. As cute as they are they are a little dense. The ducks are doing really well and apparently life is a huge party when your a duckling! They are very messy though. I'll have my work cut out for me keeping up with cleaning their brooder. The Americana (EE) are super cute and one has the cutest chipmonk face. I think Buzzy will get two or three friends tomorrow when they get a little more stablized. I think a Barred Rock, California White and maybe another red sexlink-( Gold Star). Although the EE's are super cute, but they are straigh run so Im trying to really not look at them.

NOW....before I forget:
For those of you interested, I mentioned a few weeks ago that my dh who the poultry rep for Cargill ( Nutrena Feeds) is hosting a mill tour for Mad City Chickens on Thrusday June 2 at the mill in Milton, WI. The tour is at 1pm and will take about 20-30 minutes to complete. He checked with Mad City and they invited any BYC'ers who want to come and in fact would love the chance to meet any BYC members who come as well. This is a great opportunity to see how chicken feed (or feed in general!) is made. This is also a state of the art mill and I cannot wait to see it myself! The rules are: NO open toes shoes and NO pictures due to proprietary reasons.
Milton is next "door" to Janesville for those of you who are wondering :"Where in the heck is Milton!!" If anyone has questions please let me know.

MLH,
I will certainly be there, and maybe I can drag Kristip and my dear friend Joan as well....
Any chance you will have "spare" chicks? LOL
Can you email OR PM me the meeting place OR location of the mill.
Thanks!
I got the front lawn mowed, I still have 3/4 of the side to do, and still need to do the triangle of grass from the road to near the old corn crib and mow around the truck.

I got DH involved with the reel push mower I picked up. He cut the shortest areas, the last to be cut last week, and under the tree in the front yard.

I got a strange and somewhat funny invite on FB from an old friend in CA.
The "after the rapture" party. Apparently there is a foretelling that the rapture is on May 21st.
I commented that IF a person was left out from the rapture to go and let the animals out of farms, homes, and other places.
Oh and if I don't go.. I claimed dibs on the best local amish farm I can find... and their horses. and chickens...

Have a great night folks.
Carol

We may have to fight over them! I only want anything that's Black or Black and White, because I'm hatching enough Blue Fawns and Blue Bibbeds of my own! I'll have some Call ducklings (and some fully-feathered juveniles) to bring along too. There should be plenty to go around.
smile.png
I might bring along some quail (adults and chicks) and at least one pair of Columbian Cochins too. And if anyone wants any Hookbill or Stanbridge White ducklings or eggs, let me know and I can bring them too. I was thinking $2.50/duckling, or I'll give ya eggs for free - but I'll only be able to bring about 2 dozen Hookbill eggs, and 6 SW's.
smile.png

The new Columbian Cochin baby is doing great, all alone in the brooder. Luckily, he should have a couple of friends hatching in the next couple days - I have 3 more Columbian Cochin eggs that just went into the hatcher, and I hear them peeping already.
smile.png
I set another dozen quail eggs tonight, along with about 20 various duck and Cochin eggs. Our realtor called this afternoon and said he'd be calling us tomorrow about an offer on the house (yay!), so I'm thinking I should stop setting eggs sometime in the next few weeks! I'd hate to try to move incubators with live eggs in them!

Going to pull an all-nighter tonight to finish up my last term paper, and then go relax and have some fun at the Chula Vista resort indoor waterpark tomorrow afternoon with Will and a bunch of his work buddies. Fun, fun, fun!
wee.gif

Oh - and Dooner - since everyone else posted pictures of their Call ducks, I thought I'd share mine too!
big_smile.png
These are the 3 I've been hatching all my ducklings from so far this year. I have another White drake that just got added to the pen about a week ago. I had a flock of a dozen Calls last fall, but had to downsize when I got engaged and moved into town. Now that we're close to selling the house and getting back out on some acreage though, I'm trying to build the flock back up!
smile.png
Calls are tiny - usually less than 2 pounds, and they're supposed to be sort of round and stubby, like rubber-ducks. Kind of useless besides being pets or show-birds. They're super-loud, but so adorable!

That is unreal about about the sentence! WCc tell your Ca friend not to drink the Kool-Aid! MLH sounds like Mr. T was a lot of fun! Yes Peatwo is a good provider! Thought is was pretty cool that he did that. When I'm outside he follows me everywhere, even when I'm splittin wood out back. Silly boy!

Carol, If you have room for me & maybe some ducklings, I'd like to go, too. Otherwise, if I can find a carpool from the Madison area, I'd like to attend. Happy to contribute gas $ or ducklings (if I have 'em) in lieu of cash if preferred. I've got a broody Pekin sitting on 13 eggs, yippee! But I won't count my ducklings until they hatch since I know she might not stay on the nest. (How do I monitor this and at what point would I need to decide to incubate them?) The ducklings if hatched will either be 100% Pekin or Pekin/Rouen as I've seen the later mating but not the Pekins.... This will a first for me and I'm quite excited. If I go to the bash,I'll be bringing ducklings to sell/trade & I'll be looking for other ducklings and quail...

Do people wear nametags at the bash? May I suggest that everyone write their email names under their names - easier to place an email address to a face & ID folks that way for us newbies? Even though I don't write much, I do follow you guys daily!

Fish batter recipe -- best ever (and this works on shrimp, too); dry cheese curd batter mixed with beer --- YUM!!!!!!!!!!!! (We buy the chesse curd batter from a cheese store in Cuba City.)

Enjoy the sunshine.
