Good Sticky Morning to All! Thanks Cind was going to post again yesterday but got stuck in the recliner

Did a bunch of investigating yesterday. Called the Co ext no one around until Thurs. E'd a red cedar site and got 2 responses from them. I got to thinking it was a red cedar as I have one close by and was compairing the needles. The guy who responded said the same thing that I might be sensitive to the oils. Sensitive doesn't even come close WOW! I've worked around the mature tree many times without being bothered by it must be something with the young trees.

The old joke applies. Told the Dr that it hurts when I do this. Dr said then don't do it. Think your hen would insulate them but actually it isn't any warmer than incubating temps. bl4 that's funny! Bite me! I'll bite you! TO/Bigz and others I can't even imagine life without ac. Sf I feel for Will sacrifices!

BBP my neighbor has a chantecler roo that's just so beautiful in the sunshine! But he's mean. What a cute lil coon kudo's to you for taking it in and caring for it. Was just thinking about dk she should be checking in soon after her move. Was probably nicer in Fl. She's gonna freeze her tail off starting tomorrow!

Going out to run my errands this morning glad I waited added a couple of things to the list. A friend of mine lives in Springerville Az near the fire. He said he had his car packed and the dogs ready to go. I told him not to forget the wife.

He said that as long as the winds keep coming out of the west they'd be OK. Well better get to it. Stay hydrated!

Shanti, I gave my loudest girl to TO..... that duck could YELL! I have had geese, I have heard peacocks: these little females can just about out-do the peacocks..... The girls I have right now are not too bad.

Thank you SW for the info. I have tried to find it online ( a half-hearted attempt) but I guess I need to give it another shot! There is no excuse for me not knowing these things.....

Keep cool everyone!

good nice morning.. as of last night, the turkey had hatched out 2 chocolate muscovys.. I didn't check her this morning yet..

mama duck still has all 5 of her babies.. I guess she is going to stay in the guinea yard.. the geese went in there and were picking on the babies.. very unusual behavior for them..

to smoeone who asked, No, this heat is not too hot for the setting eggs.. It would have to be over 104F.. and even then, the body heat of the hen would keep the eggs "cool"..

I am no tree expert, but I don't think your renegade tree is red cedar.. red cedar is more similar to arbor vitea.. IMHO
I am seldom right, but never wrong..

I have 7 chickens and a duck in the lean-to pen.. people are supposed to be coming to get them this afternoon. However, I think the duck lady is going to be a no-show.. she was supposed to call last night and didn't even do that.. It makes me feel like raising the price.. [:-(>--<

Funny stuff, about making a hose leak.. I have a whole pile of leaky hoses you can have.. trouble is, they all leak at the wrong places.. I think there is a leaker hose out there too.. I cannot water my garden.. It is 500 feet from the house.. by the time the water would get to the end of the hoses, it would be evaporated.. LOL (or all leaked out )

I didn't want to write too long of a post, so I will write two instead..

I have 14 peacock eggs in the bator.. anybody know how long I will have to incubate them?? I am guessing 30 days ?

I have 36 cortinix quail in there also.. same question ??
I am guessing 18 days??

TO did you get the cut-out plans ?

Morning everyone! If you sent those plans yesterday or this morning I havent...cause I havent checked my email yet! I do that after I get bored on BYC!
lau.gif

I am thinking that the tree isnt red cedar either...I have one of those and the leaves were more flat...that is if you are talking about aromatic red cedar...I do have another type of cedar that gets the berries that the waxwings like. THat one is more prickery...I will take a pic of it. I also have lots of little ones growing around the pastures--seems to be the only tree the goats dont eat; and they LOVE pine types!
I wam supposed to be working with my friend on the garden this AM--we were in the middle of a T-storm at 7:30 though...we are waiting to see if it is OK by 9 or so...man did we get the thunder! There was also a very bad lightening strike close by--I was on the porch and nearly jumped out of my skin! Still hearing thunder...the temp did drop pretty nicely though....iced coffee this morning still.

(cancel the steam coming off)

Very cute baby ducks sweetfolly! BL4 the female is on eggs again and this time there are greenish and pinkish ones in the nest so I am not sure if it is the same one as last time or the other one! I havent heard her step off yet...that is the way I can tell cause one is very vocal and the other hardly makes a peep! Shanti--I guess that is your answer...they are just like kids--some are loud and some arent!

Yesterday was the hatch date for my shipped eggs...you wont believe this: the only one that has hatched is an AMERAUCANA!!! Of the 18 eggs that was the only type that I already had! Wasnt I just saying something about Murphy's Law? I am hoping to get a few more out...waiting a few days.
In other hatching news: the hen that took over the guinea eggs has hatched 12 so far. I have brought in 6 (to make sure at least SOME make it!) Yes, I learned my lesson from the last one
barnie.gif
:/ I will let her try a total of 6...there are 4 more eggs--I tossed a slosher yesterday--she is very determined!
The guinea on the rest of the eggs (about 25) is still on tight...dont want to look under her and mess up her concentration! I am thinking that they should be hatched by the weekend---thinking about putting some lowish chicken wire around where she is (in the barn) so the babies cant wander off with the guinea herd too early in their lives....might work...of course by the time I get done "thinking about it" and actually go to DO it they will be hatched and gone!

Another round of storms rolling through...maybe no gardening today at all?

I was going to say something else but lost it... I think I am going to make a couple of cards for an anniversary party I am heading to this weekend...I dont know though--it IS only Wednesday!
roll.png

OK have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O--the ultimate procrastinator!

The only thing I have noticed with the heat and my broodies is that they tend to pop off the eggs for a bit longer than when it is cool outside. Maybe they feel they can?

A last little message WITH PICS!
Did you know that you can judge the temperature by looking at cats? Yup--it's hot!

Here is the newest hatchling: from a blue egg shipped from Revolutionmama.

This one is a little clearer....

46457_img_0384.jpg

And now "cat meets newest arrival!"

And now I must go to work! Later all! Terri O
(PS) nothing under the guinea yet!

Good stormy morning all!

Hope to see you around here!

Jim-you had me curious about peacock incubation time periods so I googled and came up with 26-29 days depending on the species of peafowl. Very interesting. Good luck with hatching them out! The quail are 16-19. Mine I think hatched at 18. I can't remember. It seems so long ago!! LOL!!

Who was asking about snowy mallards? Frizz? I can ask my dh if any of his clients have them if you'd like.

TO-hope you can get that garden in!!!

SF-Lilac ducks would be cool....

TO-cute chickie! Love the cat!

There is more to say but cant remember any of it! LOL!! I've bee up since 5 and am already bushed!!! The weather here has been very chaotic and Saxon is determined that his 100# Aussie body WILL fit into our teeny tiny bathroom. Because apparently thunderstorms don't happen when your in the bathroom!!!
I made a brooder habitat in the basement for Buzzy and the Buzzettes. SO they are out of the chick tv. Buzz is a crack up! She gets all scared and flighty when you go to catcher but once you've caught her she doesn't struggle or anything. Just sits there and glares at you.
lol.png
She lets you pet her and kiss her and fan out her wings...nothing just puts up with it. The CA Whites are worse to handle then the pheasant!!!
lau.gif
She is such a good girl! She is loosing the down on her head and looks really silly. It's like she is wearing a little headdress or something!

Winston is now a house chicken and he will go into the tv. I have no idea where to stick him. He is such a nice roo and dh is rather attached to him. Ah well, we'll figure it all out. Maybe once Buzz and Crew are out side I can make a great Winston Abode in the basement.

Yesterday the Old Hens complained all day about the heat. The younger ones just dug out little holes or stood panting and mantled out. I have to go to Farm and Fleet today so I thought I will pick up a black rubber tub to put water in ti see if they will stand in it to cool down. I've had chickens do this before so I'll see with these ones will.

The rabbits are doing ok. The NZ is getting a flop in one ear. She acts normal and I can see nothing in it. So either she had lop somewhere in the wood pile or something else is going on. She loves her water bottles. She scrambles up on them and flops over dangling her feet off on either side of the jug. She is a nut for sure..... The Champagne is loosing her black and is almost all gray now. I will take a pic of her. The Calif buck is just as nutty as the NZ. He likes to hide under his cardboard "foot rest" He peeks out from around it and ends up with one ear sticking out but has that "I'm invisible, you can't see me"look. Never mind his ear is visible so hence he is!

Well, there is a break in the rain so I better get going. Need to go to the dog walking job. Chat soon!

ok I always do this when I'm making a shirt, cause I can't change it once it's on the screen. please bare? with me while I "talk" this out.
hide.gif
first I printed up the design and it's too small on the shirt, that's easy to fix, just make it bigger. second, I put in the bubble,

Get ur OWN eggs
THESE are
MINE!

lol and like always I stumble over if it's the "right" thing to put in there lol
I had the thought of putting this in the bubble

LAY ur OWN eggs
THESE are
MINE!
again funny but ?....
Ooo Ooo , this one just popped in my head, see that is why I "talk" it over lol
what about

Lets see YOU
lay an EGG!
gig.gif
this one makes me

this is one time that having DH here would help, I could run the saying past him. not that I wish him to NOT be working, just NOT 2 hours away!
he.gif
He's still up by you Jim! in Merrill. sounds like he'll be done there on Thursday
ya.gif
Ooo Ooo he's on break now, BRB......................

k, I'm back lol the Lets see YOU lay and EGG! one made him laugh too
celebrate.gif
what do you guys think? I'm gonna draw that one up too (only the 11th version out the shirt) lol
Not that I'm complaining, just gotta state this, I got so many shirts to print, I think I'm gonna ask pastor if I can use the church and set up table to lay shirts out on. I don't have enough drying area in my house for 33 shirts. lol (i'd hang them on the line if I knew they wouldn't blow all over the place and put ink where I didn't want it)
later
just had to add, TO that chickie looks like s/he is reading up on how to care for itself and didn't get to the part to be beware of cats

TO, I resent the partial plans.. check your personnal email after you get bored with byc..

took 5 more guineas out of the hatcher.. the turkey is still sitting tight on the nest, so I won't bother her.. but she is singing like a very happy mother.. It is amazing such a pretty sound can come out of a turkey.. I wonder what she thinks about what her kids look like, and who could the father be ??LOL
could I have been so drunk I can't remember ?? LOL
