Jim- They sell a self sticking silicone tape called rescue tape at most hardware stores. You don't need much to fix a leak on a hose.. just multiple little cut sections to wrap around lots of leaks.

Terri- I was telling my horse client about "herds" of Guineas.. he was thinking of getting some.. and I said.. oh yes.. fun to watch them.. as they run in their herd onto the neighbors property... and across to the mini mansions, or to the uber rich folks and their golf course... He laughed and then told me a story of how he had to get one of his peacocks from a mini mansion... OOOPS...
I think I got him out of wanting to get guineas... I like them.. but can't have them wandering off....

JIM.. I have a question for you... can a person "SNAG" a wild turkey poult right after it hatches, or pips and raise it???
There is a wild turkey hen sitting on eggs very close to where I keep a horse. I would love to get one.
Let me know.

Trust me, the internet is pretty much useless for duck color genetics, except for Henk69's website: http://kippenjungle.nl/kruisingEend.html
The
duck color calculator can't take any recessive genes into account unless you know your duck is carrying them and you go into the advanced version and manually put them in.

When I first got really interested in color genetics, I spent a lot of time chatting with CityChicker here on BYC. She's in Colorado, and she knows practically everything about genetics! She recommended the book "Colour Breeding in Domestic Ducks" by Mike & Christine Ashton. The Ashtons are big waterfowl breeders in the UK and the book has only been published there, so I bought mine through amazon.co.uk. It arrived in about 5 business days, and it's amazing. It explains all the duck color genes in a straightforward manner with lots of charts and pictures. Now, anytime I have a color "mystery" I can just whip out the book and figure it out! I highly recommend it!

Anywho, I'm up to 10 ducklings in the brooder, 2 more hatched but chillin' in the 'bator until they dry a bit more, and 2 still hatching! AND I just discovered that I have another small batch of eggs due on the 13th that I had completely forgotten about! They're up in the same tray as all my eggs that are due the 23rd, so I'm glad I candled today and caught them!

I went a little picture-crazy. It's been a long time since I had such a big batch of ducklings hatch all at once. I really don't like having more than 10 at a time because of the sheer amount of poop and sludge they amass in the brooder!

But I guess these guys are worth it.

Who was asking about snowy mallards? Frizz? I can ask my dh if any of his clients have them if you'd like.

MLH-Yup, that was me. I would very much appreciate it if you would ask him. It would be great if he had a connection for them!

Holy hotness Batman! It almost takes your breath away. We'll definitely have to jump into the pool sometime today.

taking a break from some heavy thinking.. trying to figure out how long to make the row marker on the corn planter.. I am using a different tractor this year to pull the planter.. anybody know a short cut on how to figure this out ?

I just sold a small flock of barred rocks.. 1 roo and 4 hens..

still no word from the muscovy duck "buyer"...

I had no takers on the turkey or duck eggs, so I set them today.. 7 turkey, 18 duck and 42 guineas..

have a Ukokkei egg pipped.. and at least 3 more guineas hatched..

Man Jim---sounds like you have even more stuff hatching than me! The thing is you know about it...it is a surprise every morning when I go out to the coop as to what babies I will find! Today one of my black hens was dead...not sure what the deal was--no signs of "foul play!" I dont think she was a layer--her bones were pretty close together...just one of those things I guess. I also, Toby my BEst of Show black Australorp roo, had an eye closed! So I put him into the hospital to keep an eye on him. Man is that bird heavy! I would hate to lose him.

Got lots more of the garden in today. Sweet onions, egg plant, butternut squash and 3 kinds of beans. Tomorrow the brussels go in and all the pepper plants; oh yeah--I have to still find a place for the potatoes...not sure that I want to do the potato experiment this year again cause it was such a flop last year! While digging today I did dig up a row of spuds that I missed. One had to be the size of a softball and a half! Shoulda let them grow (had I known they were still there!)

Weather high is 75 tomorrow...that sounds mighty fine!!! THunder right now...storms coming again I guess!

DrH--I looked at my other Cedar and if you look really close it does seem to have 3 stickers on the end. Maybe the younger ones are more pronounced or it is a different variety. They didnt make me itch or hurt in and way when I held them. Maybe you are just a sensitive guy?

OK--think I am getting in the shower...it is just too hot in here! Nighty! Terri O

(PS) Any interest in Trumpet vines? I have a bunch to dig out. If anyone has white iris (the really tall ones) I would love some! Thanks!

Well the power is out here, the winds kicked up QUITE a bit, and then the lights flickered ALOT... and then nothing...
THunder and lightning are pretty bad. Tornado warning in Dane co.
Lucky for us we just ate dinner, our laptops have good batteries and our wifi is a mobile hotspot.
Bad news...no candles.
And I just called my friend there is a funnel cloud between Brooklyn and ORegon... time to go into the basement.

We have a light brahma hen that comes in the house for a piece of cheese every day...she sings on the way out daily.
It's quite the zoo here most of the time. One can never strech while sleeping without kicking a cat off the bed....Do You Mind?

Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

Way to go with the help planting Jim. Funny how one usually only gets help at harvest time.

Be Safe...

had some strong winds and rain but nothing more than that here. Looks like it is heading toward Burlington, Milwaukee area so stay safe everyone in that area. Just talked with my parents and they don't have anything yet and also found out that my Aunt is in the hospital and she might have had a stroke- she just turned 97 years old on June 4th- my cousin said they are running tests but that my Aunt seemed a little better-hopefully she can come home tomorrow
