Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well we have a branch down ON the line from the road to the house and now I am on hold with the power company.
SO no power, and I won't even try to brave it to get a closer look due to the fact i want to live and not get electrocuted...
We had a funnel cloud near here, a tornado due to touch down between brooklyn and oregon. I called my barn owner and friend Joan who was hiding in her
basement... she called back to let me know it had moved towards Mcfarland.
I am going to shut off the puter now due to not having any power in the house and I might need to get online tomorrow.
yah....
But we are OK here.. I should check with Kristi P tomorrow and see how she is doing... The chicks in the basement are sleeping. I hope it stays warm.. the younger ones have a few older ones to cozy up to.
DH is going to take a warm bath so he will be "clean" for work tomorrow. Should be fun when the power comes back on.
Stay safe out there folks...
Carol

Well home, just drove through a nasty nasty wall cloud storm between here and Mukwonago. Waves of massively hard rain, blowing leaves, high winds, but no hail or tornadic funnels seen. Pretty lightning. Watched the skies with an ear to the window the whole way home listening for that evil drone. (Iowa girl, she KNOWS that sound.)

Looks like we're about done with it now. FAST moving storm.

Stay safe all.

(Glad I didn't open back up the young chicken shed when I got home before going to dinner. Probably saved me a soaked shed full of bedding.)

Hi Wisconsin i saw this post but looks like it may be old not sure........ wondering if the wisconsin forum is still running if so i am wondering if anyone in wisconsin are breeders at all i am looking for a silver laced wyandotte, blue lace red wyandotte , silkie, splash cochin, bantam braham...... or if anyone could direct me in the right way.......thanks every one

Be careful, Carol. Glad to hear you are all ok.
You're right, Hurley, it did move through here fast. Good thing.
Everyone here did good. I was switching between watching the radar & my chickens/rabbits on the tv.
You read my mind, DrH. I have been thinking about DK for the past few days. She was supposed to get up here around the 3rd, but I'm sure she is crazy busy. Hope she enjoyed the heat while it lasted. I really hope the storm slipped past her quickly without incident. And Cind too.
I hope everyone weathered the storms ok. Stay safe everybody.

but it is still going strong, last time I checked. And if you're looking for breeders, I think you found the right place.

Oh, the Wisconsin Cheeseheads Thread is up and running and VERY active!

Can't help you with any of the breeds you're looking for though - I was hoping to hatch some Splash Bantam Cochins out of my Blue Mottleds this year, but I've had rotten luck with fertility and I'm thinking I'm going to get out of all my varieties of Cochins besides the Columbians.

Storms weren't too bad here in Baraboo. It got dark and there was some VERY SCARY, very close lightening, power flickered a couple times, and then it rained hard for about 3 minutes and it was all over. Still rumbling out there, but it's far away from us.

All my duckies are done hatching. Ended up with 6 Calls, 5 Hookbills, and 3 Stanbridge Whites - but it looks like we're going to have to cull one of the SW's in the morning.

He pipped from the wrong end of the shell, so his head was all squeezed into the narrow end of the egg, and he hatched with a visibly twisted neck. I thought he'd be okay at first, but now it looks like he's having trouble breathing and swallowing. We were going to make the call to cull him a few hours after he came out of the 'bator, but Will wants to give him until morning to see if he improves at all, because he is alert and trying to keep up with the rest of the duckies. Poor baby.

Got a call from my mom this evening that my Blue Cochin rooster passed away today. She said he'd been looking lethargic the past few days, maybe the heat just got to him.
sad.png
I had never gotten around to finding a mate for him, I've had him paired up with my extra White Cochin hen since last fall. We're going over there tomorrow to check on everyone and see what pen we can stick her in with some other birds - I feel so bad for her, spending the night alone!

Well we made it through the storm, and the power just came back on about 10 minutes ago.
Put the brooder light back on, and the small heater downstairs. I am going to have to change bedding tomorrow in the brooder pens.

On the list of things to get tomorrow... CANDLES!! and matches.
We have some, just have NO idea where they are... its out luck...
But hey no one OR thing is hurt..
Take care All

I think we got through here OK but don't know what the rest of the area looks like. The dog has been going nuts for hours! Driving us crazy. He dose NOT like storms! And I can't find one of the cats. The one that seldom goes out.

She better show up soon! When I heard there could be 100 MPH winds DH and I went to close up the trailer. My son set it up while I was making supper the night he brought it over so I didn't know how to "fold up" a few things. It's a different brand than the one we used to have. DH and I did the best we could, just hope we didn't break anything.

Good Cool Morning Everyone! Sure hope everyone made it thru that storm OK! Saw it passing through on the weather channel. WELCOME! should of married omd I have slw's if you want some eggs to hatch let me know but I'm not hatching them, don't have a very good track record and the stress is a killer for me. Threw open all the windows this AM, feels good! TO ya that's it I'm a sensitive guy.

Think Jim is just a heavy guy!

Bigz that is funny about the hens. Good neighbor Donny stopped over yesterday and Peatwo of course was with me and Donny reached down and picked him up and had him on his lap pettin him. He loves his animals but never thought much of his chickens until he met mine. Then he realized that they were part of the big picture too. Now he spends more time with them.
cool.png
Laura was watching Peatwo and I go get the mail and said it's funny to watch he was with me until one of the hens made a noise, ran back to check on her then ran back to me and stood at the end of the drive till I came back across the road and walked with me back to the house. He does this almost every day. He follows me everywhere when I'm outside, brought me a dragonfly yesterday I pretended to eat it then he finished it off. Then I scolded him for killing it. Been trying to teach him to bark with little success. Whats not to love? Traded the BFF eggs for a tub of crapeyes yesterday. It's fish fry Thursday!

Gonna spend the day in the woods hope to add a butt load to the shed. Enjoy the weather while it lasts!

Good morning everyone! Welcome "Shoulda"! Sit down and be prepared to read...I will caution you about drinking while reading however...sometimes a swallow ends up on the screen! I hope you can find what you want...I could surely help with mixed breeds (really COOL looking ones I might add!)

And check out our bash coming up at the end of this very month.

THe link is in my signature line. Sure to be a great time!
Oh yeah...DrH--what is P2 gonna do with you gone? Cant you let Buster take care of the flock and bring your pal along? I sure would like to see him...and I bet FM would too! Speaking of FM...is she coming to the bash? Has anyone talked to her at all? I am bringing a crate that I borrowed from her last year--been trying to keep track of it all year so I can get it back to her...no small feat!
hu.gif

Sure felt nice sleeping last night didnt it? I dont think I even stirred until the dog jumped on the bed and gave me a lick on the nose! So then I stayed up and all my inside stuff is already fed and watered! THe dishes are done and I am drinking coffee and it's not even 8AM! Yup--gonna be a good day---of course I need to leave for work by 8:30 so I have much to do still! THe daughters and I stood on the porch last night to watch the storm blow through. It was neat when the temp dropped 10 degrees and we all got goosebumps! AAAHHHHH! I sure hope my bean seeds didnt all wash to the bottom of the row in the rain! I had tamped them down good and watered them in before the storm started so hopefully...

Not too much to comment on when ya post this early hey DocH? ODrH...glad you made it home safe...had to chuckle at the Iowa girl comment! Did you get to experience the tell-tale roar often while living there? WHen we lived on Oconomowoc we were right on "tornado alley" It went right between ours and the neighbors' houses 3 times in the 3 years we were there! One time a tree fell right on my van
sad.png
and the very same summer the rest of the ree came down and went through the neighbor's bedroom window! He told us about all the other ones that went through there over the years...was not real sad to leave that location behind!

Well, I suppose I'd better get outside and let everyone out to roam...feed mill run AGAIN...speaking of feed mills...MLH--did you hear how the fire started at the Cargill mill? I was shocked to hear on the news yesterday that there was a fire there! (that is the mill we all toured last week)

Have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O

Been through more tornados than I care to remember, though our farm was somewhat buffered growing up, sitting in a sort of valley between two low hill tops. Flood waters couldn't reach us, tonados tended to jump us or veer around. Suckers would always try to pop up between me and home when I was driving home, though. Spent some interesting times under roads, in culverts, etc. watching trees blow by.

Don't seem to get AS many here, though one touched down in Eagle last year (7 miles away). That storm last night set off my "tornado hackles" when we hit that cloud, but it was moving fast (especially with us driving in the opposite direction).

Opened back up the chick shed where the young'ens are kept. Hope I don't regret that move. Closed it down yesterday because it looked like the weather could turn nasty.

Much nicer morning today, though. Opened up the windows and have the house airing out. (Wish I could stay home from work to properly enjoy it.)

Hoping to make it to the bash. Will have to go through the youngsters and decide who I may bring along for trading. Maybe get some of those irises dug up and split out, too. We'll see. With the young'ens, I don't really plan anything too solid. You just never know if you will get to go.
