Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, let all the birds out,. counted the young barred rocks as they stormed out the door.. 16ea

gonna have to name the BR hen Houdini.. she somehow managed to get out of the lean-to pen and avoided getting sold with the small flock.. Neither Annie nor I can find a hole in the chainlilnk anywhere.. there is a hole near the ground but we have hay bales in front of it and you can't even slide your hand down there..

I could not find mama duck and her 5 babies his morning.. she was out there at midnight when I shut the coop door.. there is a cat hanging out in the shed.. we have been leaving it alone, but if that duck is gone. the cat is going to be on my list of things to do..

Jung said that our seeds have been sent..
Yeah, right, and "the check is in the mail"..

I might have to go visit Brian today and look at his corn planter.. I still have not got the row marker made for mine..

the lady did not show up for the muscovy duck so I set it free..
I am not surprised, but it baffles me why people do that.

I have been to this one..this is a nice swap.. it is just East of Elcho a couple of miles..
I will try to get the address number and post it later..

Don't for get about the Father's Day Swap on Sunset Road in Elcho...no set up fee..call Wave at 715 275-3775 .. this will be my 5th year, gets bigger and better all the time..

Well the good news is that its secondary branches down on the power line not the HUGE branch... Still waiting for the light co to come out.
I SOOO just want to sit inside today, I can't though, too much to do...

I think I will try to get some flowers planted today.
Glad to know everyone is OK. A good friend and former landlord has part of their roof gone, a barn (older type) near Albany was flattened. AND my DH told me that there was a fire
truck and an emergency vehicle sitting on the road near our house.
Talked to a guy who has a saddle for sale, in Stoughton, there are several trees down, and his sister has no power and can't get out of her driveway due to the trees.. IN STOUGHTON...
ACK..

I need your help here folks... I am putting the call out...
Can you check with your neighbors, friends, or contacts.. relatives.. second cousins...dude at the feed store...
My client wants a beef or cross bred heifer calf, about to be weaned, small, not great conformation.. or some one who just wants to
get rid of a cow or calf.
He can pay up to about 350 dollars. he doesn't want a bottle baby OR a purebred dairy cow. This heifer would be bred to produce a feeder for the table.
I am just south of Madison, but we can drive to pick up.
PLS email or PM me.
Thank you SOOO much

Glad to hear that everyone made it safely through the storms last night. Since last year's August tornado went through my barn and yard, I take these things with a little trembling and a lot of respect!

Hey, the Mourning Dove I found with a head injury is still with us, but if I'm missing something, let me know 'cause her recovery slowed dramatically last night.

I had been (force) feeding her a mix of hard boiled egg yolk, corn meal, and wheat germ. For awhile there, she'd actively grab the tiny ball of food and swallow it down on her own once it was in her beak. And she swallowed water just fine, and was pooping. This morning she was all puffed up, and wobbly, not walking at all. Not inclined to accept food, either.

So I switched to watered fine corn meal, which she is taking about every 20 minutes. I also put her on a heating blanket due to the cooler temps. Also, if she can hear (she's definitely blind) I'm playing a loop of mourning dove calls.

Any ideas?

Finally we have power!! The storm was terrible here. We lost power at about 8-8:15 last night and the power company was finally able to get it on at about 9:35 this morning. 12-13 hours with out power and the refer and freezer are fine and cold so hopefully I won't have to toss a lot of food!!!

We got hit by those 100 mph winds and dh and I got the dogs into the basement for about a 20 minute wait while it roared past us. I had my Red Cross radio tuned into NOAA and our town was actually mention. It's never good when they mention Albion. So we went under ground and had to listen as the wind roared. Dh was wanting to stay on the three season porch to watch but I would not let him. Im sure glad I made him go into the basement. The park across the street from me got hit horribly. At least 2 trees were completely up rooted and one was split in half. I did not see any lightening damage on it though. The tree that split in half landed on part of the play ground and creamed a couple of those little kiddie bouncy spring things. The flag pole it gone but the flag stayed-got stuck in the power lines. Part of the road around the park is closed due to downed power lines where a stand-yes a stand of trees fell and tangled in the lines. Hence no power for awhile! The stand of downed trees is by the baseball diamond so I have not gone over to see if the scoreboard is ok but the stands near the trees look ok from the house.
Our house is ok but I have a lot to clean up. I was listening NOAA and was amazed at how fast the winds picked up from 40 mph to 60 then to 85 then to 100 hurricane force winds....then it was here. I took pics so I will post them a little later....
The rabbits and the chickens came through just fine and are happy with the cooler weather. I'm glad that it sounds as if everyone came through the storm ok. I hope dk is ok. Janesville had a bunch of trees and stuff down too. I will send good thoughts her way....

TO-the fire at the mill had to due with the pelletizer (over heating). Everyone is fine and Karl and crew are kinda amazed it it the news since the fire was small and I think he said that it was almost out by the time the fire dept got there. It must have been a slow news day at the time it happened!

Welcome to the newbies!

I have more to type but honestly I'm exhausted so I'm going to take a nap. Between the storm and Saxon freaking out over the whole storm and basement visit and then more thunder for a good part of the night for him to freak over, he had me up for quite a while. I think I'll talk to the vet about a tranquillizer for him....
Chat soon!

Afternoon all. I am glad to hear everyone came through the storm okay, just damage, but everyone and their pets are still alive! Scary stuff! This weather season is horrible.

Well, got the veggie garden all ready to be tilled this morning. A little late??? lol, talk about procrastination. I have always wanted a veggie garden but never am the one to go about weeding things. So, I hope I have the problem solved this year... i sprayed the dickens out of the yard and waited about 10 days and then got the skidsteer out today and took the top layers of soil and sod off. Hubby's going to get the tiller from his grandparents and till it up tomorrow. Then the seeds will go in on Sunday. I have to buy some pepper and tomato plants... should see what other plants the store has before planting rows of seeds.

Also got a bunch of flowers transplanted this morning from the one bed that is going to be going bye-bye.

Thank goodness for cooler weather!

OMG MLH that was a close one! Glad to hear your all alright! They say get used to the weather changes, gonna happen till the earth changes poles again. Glad I won't be around for that. Had to come in, got the wood done and got everything in the mater garden weeded except one row of dill still had wood makin clothes on and the sun came out. Now it's clouded over again

That heat/rain really made everything go gonzo, think it came at the right time. Hope we get some periods of heat for the black raspberries

WCc if we were closer I'd ask my good neighbor Donny about one he's hauling some calves today. Herford mix. Great eatin! Jim hope you find your duck/duckies! Hope you find the escape route with that hen! Maybe she has a tiny motorcycle and is playing Steve McQueen, wait he didn't make it. Dang! Chicken on a motorcycle how absurd. Lil leather jacket, goggles, and a tatoo that reads "Don't fence me in"

Silly birds! ODrH been through a few myself in my earlier childhood living N In. Glad you arrived alive! TO I'm truely perplexed about Peatwo. I want sooo bad to bring him. I would love for all of you to meet him especially fm, and Cody [he was pretty upset when we got Peaches from him] I'm sure he would enjoy all of you too. I have this problem, the last time we went away we lost his father Peaches and now have a deep inner fear of losing him. I'm having good neighbor Donny take care of them again but this time I'm not letting them free range they'll be stuck in the coop and the run. Which also bothers me, penned in lunch for something. If I bring him I'd have to bring some fencing don't want the dogs and such to get a free meal and I dang sure ain't gonna keep him caged, he'd never forgive me. And his opinion of me counts! Gonna have think on this some more. Better get the greens so their washed and chillin for this evenings repast. Besides L will be pulling in any second and I want her to think that I've been really busy.

Glad you won't be around for that again, DrH?

Sorry. That statement just reminded me of when that Hale-Bopp (sp?) comet came into view. My DH was telling my family about it & how it is only viewable from Earth every 200+ years. Then he said to my dad, "so now you can tell everyone you've seen it twice, hey?" Oh, did we roll with laughter.
lol.png

C'mon, DrH, ya gotta bring P2. I'll bring him his very own 'lil tent. Just needs a little repair....
hide.gif
I can picture P2 in a little leather jacket, some goggles & a tattoo or two. Maybe the other one can say "dad".

SF, so sorry to hear about your roo & your SW duckie.
Cind, hope you find your kitty.
Jim, hope the duckies show up. Do you raise any Doms, by any chance?
MLH, so glad you're all ok. Sounds like you really got hit! Yikes!
What a difference a day makes. Anyone want to take any bets if DK ran out & bought a down comforter yet? Or some wool longies?
lau.gif
I shouldn't talk. I'm such a freezy cat that I pulled out the longies today. That wind off the lake was COLD today!
Hope everyone had a good day!

Woo hoo! Look what DH ordered off of Ebay for me. https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=27010-our-australian-spotteds
big_smile.png
Well actually it was an auction of 8+ hatching eggs from these ducks. I'm so excited!

TO-I talked to FM (don't know if she's talked to ya yet), and she won't be able to make the bash. I can bring the crate back with me and give it to her if that works for you.
DrH-My DD says (with lots of enthusiasm) that you should bring Peatwo. I think you should too. I love friendly roos. Mine's pretty friendly, but he doesn't follow me around. That would just be too cool.

Still no critter in the traps yet. Shucks! A guy that works with DH said that weasels run in 2 week circles? So maybe the SOB will be feeding again in 2 weeks, I dunno
idunno.gif
. Though we did put one of the dead birds in a trap and something has been digging under it to try and get it.

So glad the heat broke, but it sure warmed up the pool real fast. Glad to hear everyone's OK after the storms last night. We didn't get a drop of rain here, though we could have used some, my flowers were looking pretty pathetic. It makes me wonder how my neighbor's garden does so well. In the 8 years we've lived here, he's never watered it.

Hope everyone has a good night!
