Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, nice sunshine right now.. hope it holds out for all day..

we took pains to make sure all the birds were in last night, as usual.. but we missed 1 guinea,,but the fox didn't..

another ukokkei hatched this morning..

as soon as the garden is in, I think I will build a couple more raised brooder pens.. Not 4ft x 10ft this time,, I think more like 4ft x 7ft.. a bit lighter to move around and it should make it easier to catch the little birds in.. in the 10ft they run to the opposite end and back and forth.. 2 people can catch them, but one person alone is just useless..

hope all of your endeavers go well today.. I want to hear good reports tonight..

Well we found the culprit that went on the killing spree here, after he killed some more. Got home yesterday from our weekly visit to the in-laws and found more dead birds. I went into the coop to see if there was any damage in there, and there was a red fox surrounded by a bunch of my smaller birds. Thinking quickly (surprisingly for me) I closed the pop door and got DH. The fox has now been "relocated"

. Lost 14 more birds, including my awesome main man rooster Karl and we also lost my daughter's favorite, a white crested black polish by the name of Picky. I guess that's the bad part of having poultry, but it still sucks. So glad that dang fox is gone though!

Good luck fishin' DrH! I wouldn't mind getting on the water again sometime soon. Last time we went my daughter caught about 30 bluegills. We kept 10. She was so proud that she caught all those fish and they were feeding our family.

We have 7 Dominique babies out and 1 more on the way! Woo hoo! At least I'm making up for my losses quickly

. Think chicken math....

Glad you got the culprit, but so sorry to hear of your losses. Hopefully no more foxes following its path!

Gotta get a pup washed, fluffed, and prettified. New owner coming to pick up at 11! Gotta shake a tail feather, have a good day folks!

I am looking for call ducklings (any color except black). If anyone has any, let me know. I am willing to drive a couple of hours to get them. I recently missed out on a chance to get ducklings from imported UK stock for $15 each!!! I'm really kicking myself for that one.

Friz, I am sooooo sorry you lost more birds! How horrible.
At least you got the culprit.
Hope that is the end of your troubles.

BBC are you going to be at the bash??? Both SF and I have baby calls and will be bringing them with us. Between the two of us you could get a variety of colors.....

Frizz! So sorry about your babies!!! I am sorry for the fox as well...... they are so beautiful...

Ok, off to do some weeding!

I thought I was going to be in Alaska that weekend but I am leaving on Monday. I'll have to look and see how far away the bash is. Maybe I could make it on Saturday.

Wow! Nevermind, it's a 4 hr drive for me! Is the person who lives in Grantsburg going?

Frizzler, so sorry to hear you lost more birds. Hopefully you have seen the end of it all, though. It's toughest when you lose favorites like Karl and Picky.

Hope your daughter is alright.

Afternoon All.... sure is a dandy out there today. Glad you caught the culprit Frizzler....makes sence that it was a fox being in the canine family and known for surplus killing at times, like dogs. They can jump a really high fence for sure. Sorry to hear that you lost more!

Me and Suzie picked up our fishing license today. Gonna wait for the water temp to rise a little more before we go after some gills. I stopped by the water to check for spawning beds today....gonna be later this year like most stuff.

Time for a stroll outside....need to apply the liquid fence. The deer decided my cranberry beans were tasty along with the small apple trees

They sure know where the tasty foods are. I'll get even in the fall I'm thinkin.
