Do a search on Wi. hatcheries there's alot out there. One is Purely Poultry in your area. Tyler is on here when he has time he's another one that doesn't sleep. A lot of good people and info here. We all try to help one another with our problems and share our celebrations too. They have helped me many many times. Like I said good people! Come on Louise see this through to the end! Peep Peep Peep! It wasn't the eggs fordmommy it was me typing. Bet she spends the night watching and listening.

fordmommy-good luck with your hatch, we are now in day 2 of lockdown with our 4 test eggs-all looked good when we put them in the basket-hopefully we will have a couple hatch out as our 4 year old says that they are his chicks...his older sister got her 6 chicks for 4-H on Sunday(see post below of pictures) and in 2 weeks his older brother will be getting his 4 chick so he figures these are his:D

Welcome Keene's coop!

Good Evening and Welcome Keene's coop. Fleet Farm or Tractor Supply sells poultry feed near you. I prefer the local feed mills that sell fresh ground poultry feed. Being able to locate one near you should be easy to find.

fordmommy, I hope your broody situation turns out healthy chicks and a good mom for you...

So for the Meet and Greet; I contacted Nifty about a banner, so far no response....

We need to have a link in the swaps, meet-ups section where everyone can post if they are coming to the meet (this is so we can get the banner and post pics of the event later......) it would keep things a little less congested here as well.

I did start one but if either Fordmommy or TerriO would like to start another that is fine, I'll just ask the mods to delete or lock mine.

UPDATE!!!!!

WE have Banner #3 reserved for our meet and greet!!!! Thank you Nifty!

That is wonderful that we have a banner! YEAH! If you would like to set up the thread in the meet and greet area that would be great babylady4. I have a list of the attendees. I am not sure how wthat works on that thread. If I put everyone on there can they then add what they are bringing for the potluck? That would be great if it works that way, then no one will have to keep it themselves and everyone can bring something that is not the same.

Fordmommy and Hennsandroos--I sure hope you get a whole BUNCH of chicks! None of my girls have gone broody yet...I am hoping soon. If your bator does work H&R, I will be there to scope it out. DH loves Craig's list and tried to get me one that was for sale in Green Bay---it had just sold...I wonder if it was someone from here?

By the sound of the plows last night I thought for sure that we would have 6" on the ground this morning! They were going all night it seemed...barely an inch this AM though and BRIGHT sunshine...I love it! There is melting going on out there and it cant be soon enough for me! Well, I am off to see the girls again...anyone know how to get them to all lay in the morning? I get half my eggs early and half after lunch! I think they do it just so I go out there and give them more attention. The are worse than my cats milling around my feet so I cant walk. I step on their toes and they still dont get out of the way! Cats must be a little smarter...

Good day all.

For all you gardeners out there: where do you get your seed potatoes?

I garden organically, but still use some conventional seed. Can't really afford organic seed spuds right now. I was wanting to order from Fedco in Maine (early reds, mid blues, and late whites) but the shipping is almost as much as the tubers! I'd like to get several different kinds and colors. I make real pretty patriotic hash browns when I can get blue potatoes

I live S of Green Bay, btw.

Bigzio, I decided to order my seeds from Sand Hill this year. Good prices and not too far away, and going to get chicks from them later anyhow. I had real trouble choosing only 5 tomatoes! They have hundreds, I want to try them all! Finally settled on early and mid-season varieties: Manitoba, Northern Delight, Plum Lemon, Hungarian Italian Paste, and Whippersnapper cherry. Plus, I saved some seed from last year's tomatoes, we'll see how those work out. I told my folks and inlaws not to buy hybrid starts this year, I'm going to give everybody heirlooms.

Looking for the sun today, none so far...

TerriO I think the OP has to do the editing; since I do not know who is going it might be easier for you and Fordmommy to do the editing and adding who is bringing what to the event.

LOVE craigslist; I picked up my bator last year on there..... getting it set up now....

keene"s coop! This is a great site.
Good luck Fordmommy! Hope you get some babies! I'm waiting another month or so and then I'll let some of my hens hatch some out. This weather is making me think spring. Can't wait for it.
Take care everyone!

Hope that everyone is having a good day and enjoyed the sunshine today!

We are at day 20 of our test incubation with the 4 eggs and I must say that it has been exciting today. I woke about 5 am this am and realized that there wasn't enough light coming from the kitchen where the incuabator is. Hurried out to see that the light bulb had burnt out and the temp had dropped to 68 degrees and on top of that 1 chick was hatched out and laying in the basket still wet....

Woke up my DH and we quickly started working to correct the problems. Our DD also woke up and came to see what was happening-sent her to get a light bulb and then opened up the bator to fix the problem. Looking at the chick we weren't sure if it would make it-I picked it up and it was wet and cold to the touch but it was slowly breathing and peeping a bit. Knowing that we needed to get it warm quickly, sent our DD for the hair dryer and started to warm the chick up with that carefully-once it started feeling the heat it started moving in my hand and peeping. At this point we weren't sure it would make it but knew we had to try our hardest as our 4 year old has told us that these are his chicks(his sister has hers and his brother is getting his in 2 weeks:) We also used the hair dryer to rewarm the heat sink so that the incubator would get up to heat quicker. We got the incubator up to temp and put the chick back into the basket so it could stay warm and finish drying off-at this point the chick's eyes were still closed but within a half hour it was moving more and slowly opening its eyes. This chick is yellow with some light blue coloring throughout its body.

By this time all 3 kids are standing and looking into the incuabtor watching not only this chick but the 2nd egg that has pipped and working on making a bigger hole. To see their faces especially the 4 year old's was priceless. I think that my DH and I both had our fingers crossed that the chick would make it(my kids do have a good understanding about animals not making it as we have had to say good bye to a few foster dogs that were to sick to make it and a rabbit).

So in between eating breakfast and getting ready for school(yep sent them out the door to catch the bus:) and work, we watched the 2nd egg break it's shell and unzip itself-of course just as they needed to walk out for the bus it hatched so they were able to watch it come out of the egg. This chick is dark in color with some white mixed in. What a neat process to observe. They also have watched a hen lay a egg!

We have the 3rd egg with a small pip and can't see anything on the 4th egg yet. I told my DH that we needed a mirror under the bakset to watch underneath-that was were the 2nd egg was working to breakout!

So both chicks are dried out and taking a nap while waiting for the other 2 eggs to hopefully hatch.

So Terry O feel free to come and check it out

That is sooooo awesome, Hens and Roos.

Really is wonderful!

Nothing here. I've been talking to a few people and I'll give the eggs until Friday morning.
