Not enjoying the whole go back to work thing....... all I wanted to do this morning was crawl back under the covers and sleep.... oh well.

You are all making me jealous with your hatching and chit-chatting about your chickens.

Now that the relatives have come and gone, things are somewhat back to normal. I do miss my family though..... we never spend enough time together.

Pull out the bator and dust it off. You can have some chicks in a few days!

John...I received a Cochin chick this spring and she just started Laying around Halloween and was giving me one egg a week and now stopped laying...not real excited about them either.
Love the blue black orp...are they as broody as the buffs? Love the look, but not the annoying broodiness.

They are broody. So if you are looking for eggs, Orpingtons are not the way to go. If you like chicks..having a few around sure come in handy.

These 3 are the Jaerhon's, now I need some help sexing them. I have two with identical lighter coloring and one of the other with a small head spot.
From what I can tell I think there are two boys and one girl. What do you guys think?

Yes! You got it right, the blonde headed chicks are the boys.. nice to have them "auto sex" isn't it!!

So..um... if you want to find a home for the spare roo chicks, I can trade you a pullet or two, they are related to most of my other birds.

Well, tonight (Sat.) is DH's company Christmas Party. This time I'm kinda looking forward to it. They changed the venue and it's going to be at a place that I would like to go to. It's rather a "high end" place for around here!

Cindy hope you enjoy your night out! Any progress on the family training? Pretty chicken pics are one thing but baby's just kill me. Talked to Donny he said he'd let the hens go so I E'd that addy and they came back with they got some the night before. Told them congrats and to check us out. Nothing exciting planned for today just footsball this aft. Kinda sounds good to me!

good morning, Yeah, DrH, It has been too cold to dress Ollie.. I don't even have the muffler back on either.. or the air cleaner.. but,, in my defense,, once I dress Ollie back up, you won't be able to see the nice white gas tank..

Thanks , CasieD, I am glad that I thought far enough ahead to reinforce the eaves.. I will be moving the coop once or twice before I find where I want to leave it..

Packers play tonight.. it was OK to lose that last game, but this one they have to win.. The Twinkies are not going to go down easily..

the chicken soup and ho-made dinner rolls really made a nice supper.. I like to soak up the broth with a buttered roll.. yummmmmmmmmm..

I have no plans for today.. just going to ride along and see what happens..

ooooooo, chickie soup, thanks Jim! Now I know what I am making for game watching tonight. Well, full disclosure, it's actually stock from the turkey "parts" I saved from the New Year's bird. Great way to use the last of the garden carrots. Girls will enjoy all the peels, etc. I'm going to generate.

On the chookie front. Hope we get enough sun today to warm up my sun shed/winter workshop/spring seed starting shack. I have a chicken bottom to wash and it was zero when I got up and not warming up too fast. I FINALLY got poor little crockpot all healed up and actually growing feathers back on her bare butt and now Soup has a gunked up butt! Real fun with her since she has a full feather duster back there and not nearly as docile about being fooled with as Crocker. Got a feeling we are BOTH going to get a bath

ATTN CHOOKIE GURUS~QUESTION~ Ok, so, my mutt pullet Noodle (lg white chicken from a lg brown egg laying bantam sized tan eggs) is still laying really small eggs. Is this it? Is there any hope her eggs will get larger? It just looks so silly having this chook the size of my Aussie laying a robin egg!!!

Congrats on all the hatches!!! I simply love the cute chickie pics and they are very educational to those of us who have not gotten brave enough to catch the winter bater flu yet.
