Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

These are what I plan to hatch this year, Delawares, Speckled Sussex, and Easter Eggers, for sure and possibly Buff orpingtons, but if ya want a very pretty Orpington Try CC she has beautiful Lavenders, the Buffs are fluffy and pretty but plain next to hers.
Awwww, thanks Ghost!

I do adore my lavender girls. I've been wanting them for a long time, and thanks to Bigfam, the playgirl, I finally have some.

No snow moving down here. It was all melted when I got up this AM.

And we're expecting thunderstorms tonight & tomorrow. Really? Thunderstorms in January?

Terri, how exactly do you lose one YakTrack? I could expect that outta Frenchie.

Those are some beautiful birds, Jim!

Hope you don't get sick too bad, David!

Lots of fluids!

Hey Ghost, you still got that mini incubator?

Jeline, how big of a coop are you allowed? Do they have square foot restrictions? Even if you are only allowed 8 birds, I'd recommend building the largest coop you can possibly get away with, since the birds will spend a lot of time in there during winter/inclimate weather. And being crowded will only cause both behavioral and odor issues.

Plan on a roosting area with poop boards, nesting areas, places away from the roosting/nesting areas for food & water in winter, electrical outlets to plug in heaters/heat bulbs/heated waterers, fans etc. and a light to be able to see in there. You might also want to consider a possible wintertime dust bath area? (away from food & water). Hope that helps you.

Celtic Chick - Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to look more into what the restrictions are on the coop. From what I was reading I haven't seen any restrictions.

Also, Do you have any chicks for sale? If so I would possibly be interested!

My coops are old houses. I have three of them. The houses are small so it works out great for a coop.
I agree that the coop needs to be as big as you can make it. Chicken math and enablers require more room.

This coop is 12X24 and divided into three rooms it has been used as a coop for 30 years

egg layer side

Juvie side

duck side

Movable broody box

West side of coop with covered run ..The run goes around all three sides and two sides are covered. I use them for ducks during breeding season because they stay outside. I free range my egg layers and they are locked in the building at night.

North side of coop with a small A Line coop for ducks nests

closed off nest boxes for broodys

What it looks like filled with a broody

I could hatch some for you. Any idea what you're looking for? Are you going to want purebreeds, or are hybrids ok?

I have buff, black, lavender, gold laced & chocolate orpingtons, Dominiques and some hybrids. I currently only have a Dominique & some lav roos for purebreds, but my lav/black hatchings have all produced blacks.

Celtic Chick - I am pretty much open to anything as long as they are docile and can handle being in just a run. We aren't able to let them free range very often.

So far the ones that have caught my eye are the Australorp, Brahma, Cochin, Easter Eggers, orpingtons, Polish, Rhode Island, Silkies, Sussex, & Wyandotte.

I am looking for good layers & some "lookers" :)

Any suggestions? :)
