Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Terri I would contact this guy.

I think I would send an email with an ATTN: to this doc and let them know what you found. Should not be a big deal. Perhaps you should freeze the bird until they get back to you (save the liver and all the 'parts' if you can too).
That is a really good idea. I'd freeze everything you have left of the bird just in case they want to investigate the issue. Especially if noone has ever come across anything like that before. Try to write down everything you remember seeing too that was abnormal in the whole butchering process if you can.

Judge, congrats on the anni! Glad you got to celebrate it! Thursday was my birthday & we didn't celebrate it until today. Went out for dinner with my cousin & her hubby. Lots of fun and a very welcome distraction seeing as we started out the day going to a funeral.

Judge,
I agree with your findings. It looks just like the pictures of deep pectoral myopathy. Who knew fat birds like Turkeys and Heavy's could flap wings and get so much damage.

I do not believe that you are so hard up for dog food.. throw the d@mn chicken into the dumpster or burn it thoroughly on your burn pile.. or like CC said,, freeze it in case the vet wants to take cultures.. I can't believe that I agreed with CC ,, twice in less than a week, too..

going to play a little solitaire and then have a night cap and head to bed..

up early thanks to a dog jumping on me,,,

as to that damaged chicken

judge hit it on the head with " pectoral myopathy" google the pictures they match your's

the injured wing most likely was infected(cheesy smell) explaining the enlarged liver (Hurley)

I have seen all of these things discussed on a pastured poultry message board I belong to

send it to the state if ya want, but with a little research I think the answers are pretty clear

feed it to the dogs?? I'm with Jim on that one,,,,,I would never (even the dog that just woke me up)

Hi All!

Got way too late to jabber much, I made a batch of fire starters tonight and it put thing way behind. Hopefully this is the last batch 'till next heating season.

TO.... That was some weird stuff in that bird! It will be interesting come butcher day to if more are like that. Hope you find out what it is. Off hand, the enlarged liver would give you a clue it wasn't right. The liver is a filter for toxins so when it's enlarged, it was full of something. That other stuff is....weird!

OK.... CRS.... too late even for me..... Night all!

BTW... today was a better day! Not great.... but better!

Good Morning All! Dan the kittens got me up at 5:30. Dang aminals! Jim think the G'son will remember that and probably a whole lot of other things.

TO was thinking I could use that liver for a back up until reading further. As soon as I read about the wing I thought infection. I'm with Jim. Get rid of that bird! If you posted about Peggy I must have somehow skipped a page. Think they would let her off if she hadn't actually pulled the trigger. judge that's cute about the DD! Happy Anni! Furnaces only go to H when your asleep. Hope the fix is cheap! Bl4 you must have been a Tennessee bride! 22 yrs

Congrats! Cindy didn't see your wood stove when there must be smaller than I thought to need fire starters. If you get the other one hooked up you won't need many starters. Glad yesterday was an improvement! Bigz had FFS baked haddock going to have to watch for that to go on sale again.

The battered crappies and gills are still the best but the problem with it is it only uses about a half a can of beer, and we know to waste it would be alcohol abuse.

Good morning everyone! Hope all the new babies are doing great. Mine are starting to get their tail feathers in. Growing up.
Happy anniversary...and happy birthday...to those who celebrated them.
Have to drive to Mankato this morning. Don't feel like it..would rather wait until tomorrow...but I have to get a few things.
We're suppose to go to a Super Bowl party ...I'm sure it will be fun...just not feeling up to it. But the kids want to see their cousins...so well go.
Ok...I asked...but didn't see any answers. Do you all mix your birds? Do you have ducks with your chickens...or is everyone seperate? What about turkeys? I chickens have free range...but of course I lock them up at night. Well not lately...their in the spa room....as soon as we start hitting 30's again ill move them back to the coop. Hopefully in a couple of weeks. Alright....I better get moving if we're going to be gone all day. Have a good one everyone!

Chilling morning everyone, we have light snow flakes coming down this am, with more coming later tonight into tomorrow- 2-5 inches possible.

Happy Anniversary and Birthday's to those celebrating!

DH has to do some repairs to our lawn tractor/snow blower, yesterday morning while removing snow, a hydraulic hose blew and that is our main piece of equipment. The kids and I ended up taking him our 2nd small snow blower and stayed to help finish the snow removal. Nice that the snow was fluffy and easy to remove. He is hoping he can make the repair and have it running for the snow coming today and tomorrow.

Suppose I should go and get chores done. Stay warm everyone!
