Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Too funny Deli! I was wondering why she was sticking so long. You know you have a good broody when she knows to wait. Unfortunately what happens here all too often is they stay for the last eggs to hatch and the first ones end up starving or dying of thirst. I hate when that happens the most! It is unavoidable when you cant keep an eye on them though...since oftentimes I have no idea where the nests are! I had one last summer that was way behind the whole stack of hay between the kneewall and the outer wall. I put food and water near the opening but it turned out that when I got the hay down far enough to see and reach in there, there was too high of a vertical jump for the chicks to get out and all had perished!

I sure wish some of you were closer that need eggs...I took 9 dozen to my parents' place yesterday for them to share with my brothers and Aunt...I commented that there was $25 worth of eggs in the bag...yeah my Mom said, "oh yes, your eggs are the best, isnt anyone coming to buy them?" Then put them in her fridge...not that I actually expected her to give me any $ for them...she is always so mad if I DONT bring them though...whatever!

OK--I really am heading out now. Coffee is gone...time to get to it! TerriOneedingtoshoveloutthehouseagaintoo

I am so glad I have an outlet for my eggs..I took enough to the feed store to get a bag of feed last week. I have 8 layers and 6 are laying now 2 are broody. I have 2 more pullets coming up soon. Eggs coming out of my ear soon. I culled out all of my 6 year old hens last year, so I am working on replacing them.

All of my RIR chicks look like cockerels :( My meaties look like cockerels too but that is all good..more meat. I am butchering out two cockerels as soon as the weather turns a little nicer..this weekend looks good.

Terri..I would come help butcher but my Silkies and Ameracunas are due to hatch out Thursday. My other Orpingtons are due to hatch Friday. I am putting them into lock down tomorrow.

Hello everyone! So sweet about the chicks Delisha. Can't wait to see more pictures. I have no idea who the moms of my chicks are. 1 is yellow, one is yellow with a short brown stripe on its back, one is fat and yellow with a dark brown stripe on its head and 2 dark stripes down its back, and one is brown with a dark brown stripe down its back. 2 are going to look like Ameraucanas-they already have little muffs on their cheeks. Wondering if the stripes come from their daddy. Cindlady- do you remember what he was mixed with? It wasn't a Welsummer or Sussex was it? Gave the chicks their feed yesterday, and they were so cute trying to figure out what the feeder was. They got it though, and are eating like crazy. Which means they are also pooping like crazy!
Crappy morning- kids missed the bus, so I had to drive them to school, then take DS9 to a dentist appt. 40 min away. When I got there they told me that it was actually at their other location, so I had to drive all the way across town. Now I am home for a little while before I have to eave again to go to my accupucture appt. Not sure how if I really want to go, but I figured I might as well try it. I go for a second opinion Wed. and then I can start to make some decisions.
Hope you all enjoy the sunshine today!

Sunny Day To All....The Feb sun already has some power to it. Feels good and really warms up the coop during the day.

Happy belated anniversary judge and Happy belated birthday to you CC! Hope you both had special days. The older you get, the faster the time flies by...you'll see!

Speaking of food quality...Nueskes meats has a recall on the news for applewood smoked liver pate.

Nothing new here either...the deer must be hungry they are eating anthing they can find in the yard. The arbor Vitae trees are bare as far as the deer can reach.....I think they checked every square inch in the back yard for goodies.

Judge - Cute little chickies! You must be quick on the draw taking pictures to get them all to stay in the cups and the "trailer". Thanks for sharing the pictures!

there is a difference between rotting meat and diseased meat.. why take a chance with the health of your pet dog over one dead chicken ?

I hope the 49er's lose.. only because they are the ones who finished off the Pack..
and besides, a football game is more fun to watch if you have a favorite to cheer for..
Wow, I can't believe I'm going to agree with Jim again.........

Cind, Doms do make for some of the best daddies. They are also great protectors of the underdogs in the flock. Glad he found your guinea for you.

Congrats on the pips & chicks, Del! I hope your pullet will be a good mom.

Thank you, Bigz!

Awww, Judge, your chicks are adorable! Looks like you took a few lessons from Bigfam. I don't know how you get them to sit still long enough. Thank goodness for digital cameras. No more wasting money to develop pics that are all blurry. I swear if I take 30 pics of them, I'm lucky if 5 are in focus.

Not much new here. The sun is shining and it's snowing like crazy. Go figure. Bl4, that is the only commercial I can say I remember and I agree it was the best one. I didn't remember it was for a truck though.
