Hi All!

) I feel for that poor horse. 18 and abandon. She's at the age when she's could start having health problems too. She needs someone with a big heart and big pocketbook. So, what happen in the coop?

DrH.... don't you just wish you could catch some of those moments like Kissy and the bug? You would have to ave a camera on you 24/7!

kristi.... hope they get hold of you soon about that job... I would give it 'till Thur. and call.

Delish... any word on the "late" eggs under the other hen? Very cute chickies! Good luck on the hatch!

Bf4m.... Cute story...revolving hens!

Chad.... yep! I think TeriO is your best, closest bet! I'm sure she has enough for a small farm and will let you have all you can take out of there!

Gee BigZ..... I think you get the cheapest feed on here! The layer I get at the mill (that they make) is over $15! It was nice when we had a bunch of mills in the area that would compete!

denise... lol My oldest and youngest are 15yrs apart too! Nice call on the phone thing.

I love it, snow on the ground and no chicken tracks more than 6" out the door. I walk in with snow on my boots and you would think I had meal worms strapped to 'em! It's real hard trying to walk with a bunch of chickens pecking at your boots!

Guess that's it... night all!

Good morning..
It is bitter cold out!! I sure hope it warms up.

The chicks and mom are doing well..they were out of the box this morning. She has them nested right by the food and water.
One peeping egg did hatch under the pullet. It was squished flat as a pancake the next morning, and she was pecking it, so I took the other egg and stuck it in the incubator. it hatched last night. I am giving it back to the original mom tonight. She seems to be doing well with 8 chicks so I guess she might do well with 9. I expected to loose a few in this cold..so far so good.

Delish: I was also a specialized foster parent in Cali for several years...eventually adopted my oldest. I miss that and wish I could do it again some day. In fact, my degree was in Mktg Comm with a minor in psych/emphasis on adoption issues. My dream was always to get into recruiting foster/adoptive parents. I started out in social work and now working corporate doesnt give the same satisfaction but pays the bills.

ugh... boy do I have it bad... looking at the hatching eggs and day olds on here and even ebay... bad stuff.
Might have to do easter hatch..guess it depends if I am employed or not by then.
Want to try to find some more silkie eggs to add to our stock. We have the splash roo and then the two blacks(one show quality, one pet) and a white show quality. The roo is just mean otherwise he would be at the house, but he hates my kids and even went after me once. NO can do!
Saw some interesting eggs on ebay... they were frizzle eggs from a big red chicken. Didnt list breed, just big red chicken with the frizzle gene. My guess is sex link, but love that it would have frizzle gene.
So come spring, we may have some silkie eggs, duccle and speckled sussex eggs that would be pure to trade!

anyway.. that is where my mind is on this cold day..on hatching some eggs.

It is a shame that it cost so much money to foster children. I wish I could afford to continue to do it. Age is also a factor now. I do not think I have the same patience and energy I used to have.

I hear you..the gift of giving does not pay the bills. But, it sure warms the heart.
