Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I forgot my phone in the car after grocery shopping this afternoon. I think I have to go out and get it. MXM had been messaging me and I havent answered her. I have those giant bannana squash seeds for her from JJ. Does anyone else want some? He said each plant grows one 4' long squash and needs about 15 sqft per plant! He brought close to 100 seeds I bet! I can bring them to the bash to share. JJ--any idea on the amount of days the plant needs? I could probably start them in peat pots for you Northerners...

My friend that has the peacocks for sale said this: "Lets say 25 per females and 40 for my 4 big males, will sell young males for 20 ( I have 4) Group discount before SWAP" So if anyone wants to get into peacocks, speak now or forever hold your peace! I believe they are the regular black shoulder type. She is the one that lives right near the park where we had the fall bash 2 years ago. (Lake Mills)

Gee, it's 7:14 and I am so tired...perhaps I ought to hit the hay early tonight? The fam is at the hockey game (again) so it is nice a quiet here and I am loving it! They are going to someplay-off thing in Chicago next weekend so they will be gone then too. Party at my place!

Those look like some nice birds Denise! The difference between Ameraucana and EE is that Ameraucana (when pure) will lay a blue egg. EE's lay blue, green, pink or tan eggs. One parent is an Ameraucana. (correct me if I am wrong please!)
And now I have a question too...that CL add that JJ posted said that "anything you breed to this Cream legbar will produce pullets that lay blue eggs" OK, is this guy full of sh!t? BigFam do you know the genetics of them? I thought they were the offspring of a barred breed and a leghorn? Where does this supposed blue egg gene come in?

Lots of kitties on the post tonight...

The rest of them are probably laying on the folded laundry on the kitchen table! Doncha just love cats? BTW--there are now kittens on the kitty cam! I just watched two of them have a 4 min long play fight. It was adorable!

Alright..I am going to have some Heavenly Hash ice cream. We used to have it all the time growing up and I spotted it in the store today...better get the meat down into the freezer too. We seem to have another cat on the porch lately! *sigh* they just keep on coming!
Sweet dreams! TerriOthinkingitwillbeareallysmalldishoficecream
banana squash says 60-70 days to pick

and what I said was at BEST they get to 4 feet by 10inches in diameter. The seeds I gave you are from a 3+ footer. The ones I grew in my sand box(garden) only got to 2 feet long by 6inches across. also the vines grow about 15 feet long not feet square

I thought legbars lay blue eggs.

and lastly

I like the pic of your cat crack house

JJ

I absolutely love my Gold Sex Link - a great bird to start with. We had another one - She use to follow my DD6 all around...loved to be picked up and petted.
Sprinkles - the one in the photo - is also the sweetest gal and other than the really deep freeze days - I get an egg a day from her. Next year I will add a few new
GSL to my flock to always insure steady eggs. I'm thinking a new hen or two every other year. But one never knows when you start seeing cute little chicks!

Amery was born on mothers day :-D May 13th and that picture you posted must have been last fall so I would estimate he was probably 5 or 6 months. His wattles and comb are bigger now? Just an FYI these gorgous lav orps came from BBPs breeding stock. Here is a picture of my Peekachu-another one from BBP: hes developed some lemon lacing that she was trying for. (this was also last fall.....his wattles.comb are now twice as big

Not sure if any of you remember the other one I hatched that was spotted? White with black spots? Well hes turned out all black.....I will have to post a picture of him as a chick, teen and adult...pretty interesting! I am thinking he is split to Lav.

I just read someone else post that legbars laid blue eggs as well on BYC? Thought they must have been mistaken but maybe not?

Cream legbars are the European blue egg layer. Traditionally it was a more pure line, but then it came over here and started getting mixed with Ameracaunas and EE. Yes they carry the blue egg genetics. But I'm fairly certain that it will not always breed to make a blue egg layer. Just like Ameracaunas, when mixed with other genetics it can be bred out. Thats how the EE came into play. I thought it would be fun to have some legbar eggs to compare the blue eggs of the Ameracaunas. But I got a single cockerel. That's all I know...

I know GFF has imported a couple groups and has been selling them on RareBreedAuctions, amoung other places. Got a handful of them in the incubator currently from a Swap hatch. They look just like the Ameraucana eggs in the bator, though a bit bigger/longer in size/shape. Color is the same, though. Big draw on them is the autosexing feature, to go with that nice big beautiful egg. Unlike the sex-links, the auto-sexing continues through the generations (sex-linked barring gene, males homozygous)

Thanks for the offer jvls and terrio. We currently have 3 but after easter we will have more. We hope this all occurs quickly. The house we are placing an offer on is the house that we currently live in. It will save us a lot of money while the kids are in school. Then we can move to a hobby farm afterwards.

Big Mardi Gras party in town tonight at the theater. Complete with Cajun cooking and a band singing New Orleans style music! The Dh and I had a good time; those sneaky waitstaff even snuck me the baby Jesus in the King Cake ( I gave him away to a friend of mine since I was leaving). Hard to continue partying when you have been up since 4:30.....

Thanks for the heads up on the call eggs BBP, I told my in-laws at the super bowl party they should be keeping an eye out for eggs soon..... it is high time those ducks earned their keep!

Wow, almost 11 already????

Frenchie and MLH, we miss you!!!!! Come and visit some time!

Ok, off to bed. Waiting for the ice storm to hit tomorrow....

Jim.... The pup looks so cute! Are you still calling him pup? Or did you decide on a name?

TO... yep, I remember them! It was the first year we went. Is that a cat-a-pole? Hummmm CRS hit hard yesterday?

I would like some of those seeds. (Thanks JJ)

Judge... sorry about the hen. Peekachu is very handsome!

BBP... congrats on the eggs!

denise.... nice birds! Cute pig.

CS.... I'm closer than anyone else I think. Depending on how many and when, I may be able to help. I'll need a few days notice though.

DH's birthday was today (Sat.) but he said to do his dinner on Sun. He called from work and said he was bringing sirloins home for his supper!.... TONIGHT!

Oh well, he had his birthday dinner without a cake! He'll get cake tomorrow (Sun)! Got them baked about an our ago. 2 Angle Foods.

Well, the turkey hens got out again! My quickie fix didn't hold, did a better job today! The one was back in the run by the time I went to close up. The other girl I chucked back over the fence and as I got her over I noticed something in the "box" (3/4 of a base cabinet, no top) and there was an egg! Froze and broke, but my first turkey egg!

Guess that's it.... Night!
