Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Okay, I thought it was just me that thought Biden looked like Walter last night, but I guess not!

I love Joe Biden, but this is hilarious!!

Yah it does seem that ya get at least 1 per batch, I also had that happen here pasty butt, from I read about it it caused from stress either at hatch or just after, happens most often with shipped chicks......... just keep it clean add some ACV to the water, or try some kefir or yogurt.
they grow out of it....... yah may have to give the little fluff butt an enema if it gets really bad......... I had too with one of my WW chicks

Hello- well, still no eggs. What the heck! Thanks for the advice on poopy butt. Hopefully (s)he gets over it soon! Sassy little things were sitting on the edge of the plastic tote this morning! They are growing so fast! I put old oven grates across the top to keep them in.
We like to make pickled cow tongue and deer heart. Delicious!!!

Cute chick pics! And those eggs are awesome, JJ!

Terri, does she have any peahens that are about 2-ish? Thank you for being the go-between.

That sure is a nice pen, Jim. DH built me a 4x8' rabbit pen similar to yours that has been sitting empty for years now. I sure wish we were able to move it closer to the chicken coop & put it up on legs so I could use it for a breeding pen.

Bl4, I am so happy to hear your kitty liked the liver. I hope he continues to improve for you. Did the vets have any ideas on what was wrong, other than being dehydrated? I noticed my cats seem to be drinking more water lately. Must be from all the dry heated air? Have you tried Whiskas Catmilk? It comes in a little purple carton by the cat food. It's a liquid with the bonus of some extra nutrition.

I bought Ramses some of this when he didn't want to eat too much. It's really expensive, but he did like it. So did my antique kitty.

Judge, I only have had one chick have a pasty butt problem, but I used some Sav-A-Chik in their water & it went away. Yogurt or ACV should work too. Whichever you have on hand.

Ok, tongue? And you people give me crapola for eating head cheese? Really??????

head cheese is frequently made with tongue. I love head cheese..and tongue

Yeah! Another one for the GOOD side!

JJ--I must also add that you were absolutely correct...the tongue discussion DID bring up the headcheese one again!

I, for one, will be seriously missing my client that passed for it was at his house that I had the most delicious headcheese from a Bavarian market. I might have to give his son a call just so I can find out the name and where it is...MMMMM. Of course I do have the tongue, heart and other parts so I could try to make my own...nah!

Good afternoon! That pasty butt thing comes from too high of heat I have read. Dont know if that is true or not, but I dont ever see a chick with one that is walking around with a hen! I start mine at only 85 and have it down pretty low within two weeks. I have only had one and I carefully pulled the mess off and the feathers with it--tadah! No more feathers for it to stick to! OK--I am bad...but it did get rid of the problem!

I picked up my new barred rock hens today. I will take some picks of them tomorrow when I put their new husband in with them. Peggy said, "dont worry about catching them; they are so "chicken" that they never go out in the snow." Guess what? Good thing her birds are semi-tame! So their names are all Henny Penny...I guess I can remember that!

Country style pork ribs on the grill tonight with potato packets, cauliflower and Hollandaise and Marge salad. (a gelatin/yogurt thing) I had a grilled cheese with MXM today at lunch though...I am not in the least hungry...maybe the kids have volleyball and we can eat late. FInished the first season of Dowton Abbey so she is looking into the second season. She is also watching the 3rd in "real time" so probably that will be on Netflix before we are done with the 2nd.
Weird, DD26 just called....the DO have v-ball tonight! Yeah--

In that case I guess I will just put the ribs in the oven...then they will be done when they get home.

Time for me to do some work around here...I have been having way too many "play dates" with my friends lately! Have gotten nothing done here! (yeah, can you tell I am really, really upset about this?)

Anyway, dogs are hungry and I think I might just have a "rootbeer!"

I have only had it in high heat situations. It was when DH thought I had the heat lamp too high and lowered it. I left it lowered and had pasty butt. Lesson learned. I have my NYD hatch outside. They are fully feathered and are doing pretty well. I would like it to get warm enough to actually get them on the dirt and frozen grass for more than 5 minutes. It probably happens for other reasons too.
