Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

chicks are about one ounce.. no body mass to keep them warm,, I do not pay much heed to the temperature.. I have heat at one end of the brooder and the chicks can pick out where in the brooder they are most comfortable.. if the chicks are making that shrill peeping sound, they are most likely too cold.. or,, they miss the light they had.. 70 is most definately too cold for chicks.. I do not lower my heat as they get bigger.. they will just move away from the hottest spot until they are comfortable..

I think my brooder is about 80F..

you cannot just acclimate a chick to conform to a temperature..

brooder-ing , as in incubating, DO NOT TRY TO MIMIC WHAT A HEN DOES.. just follow the proper procedure for the brooder box or the incubator ..

as much as I hate to admit it,, I have to agree with CC,,,,again,,,,this is getting to be a habit lately.

I missed the pictures of the table,, Kim,,, I went back a few pages and didn't find them.. WTH ?
or did you PM them to Mel ?

looking forward to plowing snow with Ollie..

What was confusing to me was that they had been at 70-72 for 24 hrs, and then all of a sudden they just starting being really loud completely out of nowhere. They were hopping all over the place and pecking the sides. They weren't huddled together, they were all over the place... Maybe it's just a combination of things? I do spoil them and hold them a lot. Such wonderful, funny, perplexing, lovable creatures

Kim, what a beautiful coffee table! Personally, I would rip out the wicker and put in ceramic tiles, or mosaics. That way you have something nice to look at through the glass. If you need to replace the glass I bet there are a few places in the area who can supply you with what you need.

When DH dropped Runt off last night, he was in pretty rough shape. They hooked him up to an IV right away and did not even attempt to get the feeding tube into him until later this morning. The GOOD news is he is a bit more active today and they have given him some food. He is still using the litterbox too. They told us that we could possibly bring him home tomorrow, but I would rather they keep him until they are completely sure what direction he is going in. I have to give him a chance to recover if he can. Right now it is all a waiting game.

Looking forward to the drive in tomorrow!!!! I can't WAIT to get out onto the highways and fight my way into work!

That is all from this little corner. Just waiting for my seeds to arrive.

TY BL4 and that's a really good Idea I haven't yet thought of, not sure how well ceramic tiles will hold up though, they do break rather easily, maybe if I glue them first to a board? because I have seen some gorgeous tiles at Menards............. the problem is the way the wicker is installed, they took a plunge router and made a channel about 1/2 and inch in from the cutout section..... now I need to make it into a lip like the top where the glass fits in......... and I do not have a plunge router, not even sure if Jim the tool man does, but will ask him.......... Thanks for the suggestion though I think if I can figure out a way to make it work that is exactly what I will do........ Glad the kitty is doing better tonight, hope he can come home soon.......... night Kim

Quote: well, IDK.. but happy chicks make quiet chirping noises, or no noise at all..
do they have food and water ? I imagine they do.. are they using them ?

It is a warm fuzzy thought that they might miss you,, but I doubt that is why they are uncomfortable.. something is amiss.. I still maintain that 70/72 F is too cold.. maybe it took this long for them to cool off ? why are you so reluctant to increase their temp ?

Oh, I'm not. I turned the lamp back on. They are still noisy but not as much. I talked to them awhile, and turned the lights off. Trial and error I guess...

Quote: I don't think the corners are separated too badly.. It is a nice table..
I would go online or to a furniture refinisher and try to get a wicker replacement..

some liquid type of furniture polish or linseed oil at the corner miters might swell the wood up and tighten those joints.. have some beveled glass made for the top four spaces..

If you cannot find a matching wicker panel,, consider removing the remaining three and then get four that match..

since I am not paying for this,, money is no consideration.....

I wish you were paying lol,...... then getting it done as you say would be easy cheesy and since I didn't have to pay that would be even better and I could afford the re finisher to do my work...... LOL

Unfortunately I ain't got money to spare but I do want to refinish it and fix the bottom somehow. at 1 point I did take it too a re finisher she took a 200 dollar deposit and said call me in a month, well after a month no answer after 2 months still no reply, after 3 months I went to her house demanded my finished table or my money, and table back..... well as you can see it was not done it was stacked in her barn amongst many other tables unfinished............. she was too busy.......... so it never got done and I continued to drag it around till I bought this house in 99, and it has sat in my basement since........... so if I still had that 200 bucks, i'd be good to go, but I spent it like 20 years ago....hehehe, and Adams check again this week was just over 90 dollars, this is ridiculous actually and I'm getting a but pissy about that, but I ain't sure what I can do or even he can do just now until his school loans are paid, buy this company. so I have to figure out a cheap way to fix the bottom, stripping and staining isn't a big deal I have everything I need for that, but that darned ole wicker, and it isn't a picnic to get it out either, I remember when I took the chewed up piece out, before my hands went bad, it was a heck of a job, it's stuffed in tight and glued too.......... I remember saying good grief what kinda glue did they use !!!!!...... so anyway will think on it over night, need to sleep now I'm totally exhausted........... night all saty safe an warm......BRRRRRRRRR its nasty windy cold out there...........Kim

So sorry about the chicks. How old is your daughter?

GR... the corners don't look bad to me either. There is a product that swells wood. You mainly use it for loose spindles in chairs and such but should work for that. To me, they look like they just might need some good humidity. As for getting the caning off/out perhaps when you start stripping the chemicals will loosen the glue. I like the tile idea. Maybe post a pic of the caned area and we could give you some ideas.
OK, I read all 8 or so pages. I was going to reply as I went, but not much to chime in about

Interesting conversation though.

All seems OK here...Night All!

I'm so excited to drive in rush hour in snow this morning. YIPPEE!!! ( insert appropriate eye rolling and grumbling) I can't wait to be on MY shift of 3:30 pm instead of flipping 8 am... Gotta go
