Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Deli--Sarku? As in teriyaki chicken? I did add a splash of ACV to the FF starter when I got home today. BTW, I can give you some spent grain when the hubby makes another batch.
Yes...Sarkua as in a type of Teriyaki chicken.
Ok here's a newbie to FF question. ...how do I know my feed is fermented? The grain (food) has been soaking in water for 24hrs and I added ACV last night. Deli I remember what yours looked like and I think my water is still too clear, it also doesn't smell fermented yet and it isn't bubbly. BTW is the food safe to feed in this "soaking" stage?

Morning all. I hope the snow is minimal. I have to get the garbage out. Last week we had a storm on Tuesday and I wasn't able to get the garbage cans out to the curb by Wednesday morning. And I'm hoping this week I don't have same problem I talk to darling husband and he said he was going to get it pulled out to the curb tonight.

I noticed that the activity has been slow on here the past few days. What has everyone been up to?
Good morning..
Yes i have been busy the last few days..DH was home

He just left a few hours ago and now chores are done. I am gearing up for tons of snow removal. 12 inches? ugh we still have 12 inches on the ground.

Yes feed the FF at any time. I start right away because it get them used to the different smell and texture. It takes a while for it to get *talking*. Sometimes weeks. You added ACV so it should start. I no longer use a starter. It also depends on your temps. That container you seen on my counter has been going for a year or so. I have one in the spare bedroom for the adults that is also going. Casha's dog food is also in there fermenting. I put them in there because of the smell. I love it and DH hates it. Smells like beer...

I look forward to spent grains. I am going to make a few calls to some of the micro brewerys around here and see if I can pick up a 55 gallon drum of spent grains. That should last me all spring and into the summer.

Jim, I am sorry for your loss.... I am certain you and Annie kept her well entertained with all of your projects and activities. Thank you for letting us have a peek at what she was like, I will miss your little stories about her.

I fortunately have a variety of seeds (including oats and wheat) at work, so I put a bunch in warm water and put them under a gro light in my office. I figure I'll let them grow there and I can bring them home as needed.

Thanks on the FF info. I'll strain some and give it a try with the girls.

Glad that you and DH enjoyed your time together

We have a snow day for the kiddos, so it'll be a chore day here too!

I brought out a bowl of FF and enticed them out of the coop, then shut the door behind them. They didn't know what to do. They kept looking into the coop thinking...IT'S COLD OUT HERE..WHY CAN'T WE GET IN THERE MOM???????? This is Forced Free Range.

Anyways, they are LOVING the FF and are picking at the ground a bit...I'll let them in the coop in a few minutes, so their poor feet don't get too cold!

Going stir crazy with another snow day. We have painted glow in the dark paintings, made cookie bars and played in the snow and we re not even to lunch time yet. Ugh. So much I want to do, bit don't get half s much done when kids are home. Plus I have a good book I want to read right now.
Still trying to eat ahold of carol...she is one tough cookie to reach.

Morning folks! When I left for the dentist there was barely a dusting on the driveway...the way home was treacherous! I think there was about 3" out there as I walked in. Got the inside creatures done and a cup of tea for me...coffee pot died yesterday.

I am not getting too much out of that tea...might have to have a pepsi! Anyhow--I have yet to head out for the outside critters. I talked to DH and he decided not to stop in LaCrosse on his way to Green Bay because of the snow. Since he rolled his truck in a snow/ice situation a few years ago he is much more cautious. Thank God for that!

I am making those jello pinwheels today with the kids. Thank you for that great idea! I finally can use up some of this Jello I have around here!

Man, it feels like I need a nap! I better get outside and get the chores done!

Jello pinwheels...what are those?
Making chocolate and peanut butter chip cookies soon
Eventually have to snow blow but that does not sound like fun...
