Ski !! nice to hear from you .. I think we can set you up with what ever you need. the bash is not that far off anymore.. I just hope they can plow out the road into the camp that weekend..

I was greatly surprised at my two ganders.. they are the perfect foster fathers.. I handed them a baby goose from the incubator and the guys just took over.. the geese on the other hand were not too receptive.. later on, I gave the ganders about a dozen muscovy ducklings.. no problem, as long they are babies, they were accepted.. IDK if I could do it with chickens.. might give it a try..

going to work on the peacock pen a while today.. haven't been in the mood for a few weeks.. too cold..

I have to get the guineas into that pen.. they are hiding their eggs from us.. I am sure they are in the garage somewhere,, but it is a big building with hundreds of hiding places..

would you run into an issue with the ganders wanting the baby chicks to go into the water????

H&R, contrary to popular belief , chickens can swim.. not very well or for very long, though.. I conpt have a pond for the geese.. just a Menard's mud mixing tub.. baby chicks cannot get into it because the sides are too tall..

My asian breed of chickens never bothered to walk around the big mud puddles in the yard.. they would walk to the middle just to take a drink..

If you want to see something funny,, let a chicken raise a few ducklings.. the hen goes nuts when the ducklings go into the water where she cannot..

I have seen a rooster in the water before.....I had to go save his butt!

We have friend who last year had a chicken raising ducklings and yes the hen became very frantic when the ducklings were put into the water!

Jim I was finding that out this morning she was all snugly until I tried moving her to an empty nest box that she wanted no part off then she was a little monster. I think I will try her if she's still sticking in two weeks.

BBP: Remind me again (for the bizzillionth time) what breeds will you be getting in in 2 weeks? I remember the BBS Orps, SF, and EE'rs..but can't remember which others....

Hey dcba,  that sucks about your flock..    those respiratory illness are hard to pinpoint..  sometimes the chickens you bring in are not immune to what is lurking in your flock..  sometimes the new ones bring in something your flock is not immune to..  either way it could turn out badly.

I mentioned that I might be getting some Buff Orpington eggs before Easter..  I can get just about as many as I want, so I could hatch out a few for you,, NO charge..  No rush in getting them either,   as I have to keep 25 until they are old enough to go out without heat , anyhow..  I have an order for them..  so what's a few more ??

Can a turkey live with chickies? Or is it true chickens cary something that could kill a turksy?


Such a nice day! Hubby n I messed around on the 4wheeler! The dogs were in heaven chasing but not the pup l he's afraid! Hell soon learn whTs fun around here! Got more of the coop cleaned!The girls are loving t coming out for their treats! Almost kinda feels a little like spring.
