Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ugh I now have 3 chicks in the injured brooder. So now I seperated the rest of the chicks into two brooder ( not counting the injured brooder). I kept the Barred Rocks and turkeys together in one brooder and the "rare" breeds in the other. Maybe they were crowded ??? So now I keep watching them to see if anyone picks on anyone else. I did notice the Mottled Houdans were pecking at some of the Chanteclers but didnt draw blood, it was just little pecks.

I'm open for suggestions.

JJ & GS - great info. I didn't think about the deer and salt . . . that would be a bummer.

I think I like the tiller idea the best, and from the looks of last year's harvest and what has been posted, I think some of these plants need to be thinned. I look forward to both of your process pics. You can always PM them to me if there are more than you want to post.

Kristip - we just read about the market starting up in NG, I love this.

Belleville tried it for a few years and I think it fizzled out which is too bad, but it can take about three to five years for a famers market to establish. Depends, of course on the town. We just started our business (officially) last year and that was with the meat birds and eggs. This year we are going to increase the laying flock and introduce the veggies. We may check out the NG market, but will probably sell from the farmstead and word-o-mouth. Having said that - you bet I'll connect w/you. In fact, I see you are a "rummager" as am I. We will be having a garage sale on May 10th & 11th and it looks like a few of the neighbors will join in. It would be great if you could to stop by so we can meet.

Gotta run - lunch break almost over

I will find a way to get there for your rummage. I am helping a friend with hers in Wuanakee that weekend but will find some time to visit you too. We have to meet. And keep me posted on your veggies. I can send some lovely people your way. Sounds like you might be a good resource for butchering down the road also if we go that route... never done it, but need to get in the mind set that we can!
Remind me again where in BV you are?

What would happen if I put my 2 broodies in a cage together with some eggs to sit on, separated from the flock?

Would they fight or share or hang out together?
all depends on the birds. forced sharing rarely works in the best of circumstances. If they had enough room to set there own nests in that area they will be fine till the chicks hatched. Than there might be other issues. Some hens try to steal other hens chicks. It can be pretty messy.
The Yellow-rumped Warbler. I wish they would stick around, they're so cool.

And Pine Warblers today too!
very pretty

Ok, I did it !!!! All you fellow enablers !!!!

I just ordered some ducks and dutch bantams from Ideal Poultry today. And the buff orp pullets and a barred rock roo for ET's boss. Now all I need are are a few guinea keets for him and I'm done !!!! Yeah right !!!

Now I just need a few anocona ducklings !!!
Sun is out and I'm feeling a spring boost of energy(mentally that is not phyisically)

Spay/Neuter clinic went well yesterday. Boy those boston terriers are noisey when they are waking up from surgery. All of the dogs kind of sing but those bostons are non stop !!! LOL

A lot of small dogs came in. Thank heavens they all have homes or they would have come home with me !!!!

For anyone interested in another dog the 7 month old cockadoxashitapooa little boy is still available. Free

VickyW, If you need a few more pullets I can add to my Ideal Poultry order. They are being shipped on May 1st. Just let me know. I can drop them off when I come visit Teddy at your neighobrs !!!

Well, at least they're at Delish's. Yes, want pics since I'm not getting them for a while.

JJ... If we ever get a tiller running I will try that shallow till. Like I said, I did do some thinning but the weeds get bad in there.

Well, better get some work done.... CU later!
