Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Getting excited. I might actually hatch put a chantecler. I was so worried last night because 1 of the 2 eggs that I was expecting to hatch pipped the wrong end. But this morning it is almost all the way zipped. Yay!!! Now one more to go. I could hear it tapping away last night , but no pip yet. Keeping my fingers crossed

Had a nice thunderstorm, oh wait- the chick just hatched! I have been waiting for a chantecer for a long time. It's little butt is still stuck in the shell, so hopefully he shakes it free. Hope you all enjoy the weather. Up to 80 here today, but maybe some strong storms? I can take a good storm as long as there is no damage, and the power doesn't go out! Have a good day everyone! [/quote] Congratulations! !!!!!! Judge!!!

Good Spring Morning to everyone :) I can not believe its going to be 82 today but 30's come tomorrow night. Once we get past these cold night I want to get my geese and 2 more ducklings out to the coop. I've been putting them outside during the day for the last 5 days and the rest of the flock has accepted them. But their not all that feathered yet so the night temps in the 30's worry me.

Judge ~ how do you like your Chanteclers ? I have 4 chicks and they seem kinda aggressive, I figured out they are the ones picking on the polish. Do they mellow out as they get older ? -- Good luck on your hatch :)

Bring on the storms! Love them!!!

Ran all over the place yesterday. I think today I will sit back a bit.....

Daffodils are finally blooming....

This is the first chick that I have hatched, but I have two adults. I have really enjoyed them. Good egg layers and very cold hardy. Gretchen is at the top of the pecking order, but I have my suspicions that she may have killed the one baby, and injured the other. Could have just been an unlucky coincidence though. They are not the friendliest of my flock, but I do like them a lot. Here is a picture of my two girls Gretchen and Taylor. I am really looking forward to these chicks. I hope the other one hatches so I have a pair. I know Unkadan has a bunch of chantecler chicks that he just hatched. He might be able to help you out with that. Hope you enjoy your babies. How are the Polish doing now?

Quote: Thanks :) Since putting the chicks outside this weekend there has not been anymore picking issues. I'm wondering if they were bored, cause now they fly anf jump and wun all over . The feathers are strating to grow back too on the polish so looks like no lasting injuries. Whats interesting , is it was only the brown polish and a pheonix (?) that were picked on. The other top hat chicks didnt get picked or nor did the barred rocks.

ETA: I just went outside to take some pics of the chicks and sure enough the freaking brown polish is bleeding again. They keep pulling its wing feathers out !

I have a brown chantecler and she is a sweetie!

Had a fun day yesterday going over to my friends house on rooster watch 2013. Of the 11 chicks she took home, 2 are definete roos and 2 are maybees. I told her to keep watching and if I need to share some birds with her, I will.
Of the 9 original, we got rid of the two roos so down to 7 and two more that are maybees... and those polish. The places I posted them, people think they could be roosters. ugh.
otherwise trying to get some stuff done around the house while the weather is nice, but hard when kids want to be at the park. soccer practice should be nice for our first one tomorrow night, but our first game is this saturday...looks like rain and 40/50's...yuck. Although my mom might come up to visit so that will be nice. ok back to work

Good morning! Laundry is on the line...the weather is perfect for hanging outside and the radar is clear until late tonight(supposedly)
Glad you finally hear the Peepers Amy! That is my favorite sound too. One time when we first moved here me and the kids walked to the pond across the street to try and see them. It was hard to keep still enough so we could spot them for sure!
BigZ... If you really don't want the tongue, sure!

All kinds of things you can do with tongue! Tongue makes great Tacos too! People forget.... IT'S JUST MEAT! It's a muscle, like any other! It's a bit tough, but you just got to cook it right. Either slow and low or pressure cooked. You give hearts and gizzards to the hens? That's another thing I use the pressure cooker for... gizzards and gravy!

And just so you don't think I'm weird and will eat the whole beast, I do not like liver! Don't know why, I just don't.

Well, I now have 1 broody Turkey by the house, 1 in the chicken coop, and 1 by the straw where the chicken hens lay

The poor Toms are wondering around "lost" LOL The one has taken to fallowing me around, fallowed me right into the house today!
All this talk of "waste meat" and I am going to get some out of the freezer and experiment! Cind--my DH doesnt like liver either. He always tries it because he says it smells so good...but he never has a second piece! Now I just make it when he is gone so I dont torture him! (see BigFam...you CAN get them to try things!) I will bring my Gizzards and Rice recipe for you Cind. It is out of this world!
You know, the other day you did say that you were short and round right? Maybe that Tom mistook you for one of his hens?

I always hated the soccer season...started wet, went to over the top hot then finished with the kids playing in a snow storm! Gotta love it!

Laundry is calling...have a great day everyone! TerriO

Because I am showing them off other places to determine roo or pullets... most seem to think I got two roos. They are so cute, but I wanted a pair! But they are really cute still. This is Queenie and Elvis
