Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

my crazy chicken moment for today.....I met Colton! my daughters track meet and she mentions there had been a loose chicken by track field and she thought she recognized the boy her age from byc her friends cousin confirmed his name so i proceeded to embarass her and went and introduced myself lol
I can't wait till my kids get old enough to embarrass.

Deli...getting more confident everyday what sex this might be.. Moose (moose-stach as it has black on one side of its beak) hates the camera as the stink eye shows...

I am trying a row of straw bale gardening this year. I spent time setting up the 10 bales and a soaker hose to water the heck out of them next I add 13-13-13 fertilizer I had laying around. watering and adding fert. for 12 days by then the inside of the bale is breaking down and making heat a little potting mix on top and put some started plants in the bales. Suppossed to be no weeds and easy picking cause it's all up off the ground. I put up T posts to make a wire trellis along the top for some stuff. We will see. I could post updates and pics if anyone was interested? JJ
i would like to see it. where did you get the info. please keep use posted on the progress thanks zeke

Beautiful Day To All.... We had quite the lightning show here just before daybreak. Watched it with a pot of coffee.

Did some raking of the lawn here too. i don't get real picky, but rake some of the excess up and leave the rest for the mower to chopup. I think derek would be busy for hours and hours here TO...he would ask why i left all those leaves under the maples and oaks? So the grass doesn't grow, duh! Then you have to cut that all the time. I like woodsy anyway.

Thanks for sharing all the pics. Might have to be careful opening the door on the new coop. When they open to the inside hens can be right behind the door and get wacked if you are in a hurry.....not being picky and don't take it wrong, just sayin.

Lazyboy time.... Be Safe....bigz

I read a book by the guy that penned the "all I ever needed to know, I learned in kindergarten" and his view on leaves was that God put them there on the ground and God can move them if he sees fit.

I like that plan.

I would! That sounds really interesting!

Hello everyone- hope you were all able to enjoy the weather today! LMiller- really cute coop! What is a sand point well?
Love all the chicken and duck pictures- too sweet.
My ducklings are doing really well in the coop outside. I bought them a large round galvanized pan for in the run and they love playing in the water.
Still only one chick in the incubator. The other egg got pipped for it though. I think that it got a little banged up by my wild chick, and then she pecked at the crack. There is a hole in there now, and the chick keeps pecking at it! Is that ok? Will the egg still hatch? I don't even think it had internally pipped yet....
So- my little bantam is doing better each day. Today she is running around the brooder. Reminds me of a little mouse. Not sure she is drinking as much as I would like, so I keep dunking her beak in the water so I feel better. She will be the only bantam in the flock. That is going to be a problem won't it. Should I get more so she isn't alone, or should I try to rehome her? Anyone have a little bantam they would want to sell me? The plan was to try them with the LF and see what happens. Some have told me it works, and some have said no. I was trying to hatch bantam faverolles too, but I don't think they will hatch out.
Good night all!

Some great news to share...first and most important, all chick are out of the house! For the moment, no heat for anyone, but as it gets cooler I have to put it back on for the lav orps as they aren't fully feathered.Second item to mention is that the landlords mortgage company accepted our offer on our house. We will be filling out an application next week. Rates have just dropped to an all time low so we should be saving a lot of money on our loan!!!!
