Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well I am alive, really really this time.
I have been dealing with a ghost drain on my big truck and switching out batteries like there is no tomorrow.. I am now seriously thinking
its the alternator... GRRRRRRR

I forgot to cancel my chick order from my local farm center (local to Oregon) and now I have 25 baby chicks that need homes....
I paid 84 bucks for the feed its all chick starter...
I was supposed to get a few broilers but I don't think that is the case.
They are all from Sunnyside Hatchery, Special Blacks, Brown (production red type), Sagitta (dual purpose production red type) and
Leghorns, All straight run....
Anyone interested? THey basically cost me 3.35 apiece.. the ##$&&(**@ people!!!
If you buy a bag from me for 10 bucks I'll throw in 5 chicks or more...
There is a vague, very vague chance I did get a broiler or two...

My right arm has decided it is on strike, I have been battling almost crippling pain from it since monday, and went to urgent care
last night, they loved us... no blood or broken bones... I got valium as a muscle relaxant and hydrocodone for the pain.
AND i have to work ALL weekend, doing heavy crap... I will try very hard not to use my arm!!

This is for TO... she let me buy a cross bred Turken after she posted a pic of her.. I said she was half Jaerhon, as I had given her a few when I first got them... she wasn't sure..
So here she is with the flock!

I know its wrong.. but I REALLY REALLY want to create more.. Jaerhon Turkens!!!
LOL

THe JaerTurk/TurkJaer looks like a little old grandpa with those tufts of white.

Congrats Lisa! Nice babies, hope I can get a hatch like that.

Judge, I have a mutt bantam that I hatched from one of Julie's eggs last summer. She is dirty white, about 6-7 inches tall, a little sass. She is a very good layer of little white eggs. She lives with my Jaerhons, you can have her if you wish. I know she is an adult, but ya never know til you ask.

good morning all,, just an update of what I am up to.. then prolly back to lurking so I don't get into any trouble..

I am planning to be at the bash with some pancake mix.. (my own blend) some of that syrup from all you syrup-ers would taste good with them..

I received 100 Buff Orp pullet chicks from Stromberg's yesterday.. all alive and well yet this morning..

I was going to hold off posting until all of you ladies posted intrigueing pictures, but I am satisfied with what is posted so far.. I am a creeper,, and a procrastinator,, and I will go to the meetings , one of these days..

I have the peacock pen all finished. there is a trio of bourbon red turkeys, a trio of peacocks, and the new barred rock rooster with 4 of his gals in there.. I am going to add a few more BR hens as soon as the weather gets over this hissy pit..

I am about done with hatching until the guineas start laying en-force.. I hatched out in excess of 100 chicks for Pang.. she has her last 13 to pick up today..

there, my life in a nutshell,, nothing much to comment about..

BigFam, I am almost afraid to bring up this subject, but just write on the egg with pencil the date that the egg is due to go into lockdown.. then there is no reason to have to think after that.. does this mean you will not call me again ??

Colton's Mom must have banned him from this thread.. she is a good Mom.. Or maybe Amy scared him away ??

Cind, I am up with you many nights.. GO TO BED !!!!!!

Judge, your banty should be able to mix with the big chickens OK.. they are feisty ..

I thought it was our secret..

Hi jim!
Glad to hear your doing ok. Did you see all ogf my bator questions? I will need know how :)

Terrio, how are those quail? Do you hatch for keeps? Or trade/ sell? Hope the kids didnt sleep for you yesterday ;-)

Alright, I will look up float testing and do so.

Amy, they seems like pretty darn good eggs, so I'm sure they will do great for you. I have another 16 in the bator and they are all developing beautifully. More due next Tuesday!

That Turk/Jaerhon is a pretty interesting looking bird. It does look like my grandpa did though, lol.

Lisa, I have had great development in my eggs, but lockdown has been a little disappointing (9/15 chicks, 4/12 ducks.) If it keeps up, I'm definitely chalking it up to divine intervention preventing me from getting over my head in birds and having a newborn at the same time. Darn kids!

What are you using for a hatcher?

I used a Farm Inovators still air, but put the fan in it for circulation. Worked well for me once the wonky temperature stabilized, the humidity and temp stayed very constant. Of course the guages on the front aren't accurate, so I used a digital meat thermomiter poked through.
