Bbp, sorry about your naughty roo! That stinks!
Amy, thats a ough story about your gsp :-( best dog I ever owned was gsp x. He necer payed the chickies any attention. Patience and tons of work. My hubbys chessy was obsessed. I wormed very hard last summer, and can now trust him. Im finding this summer I will be working just as hard with my new php. 6 month english bulldog x.
Psycho, I have an easter egger... I think. She lays the green color you have. She has layed an egg every day except 3. We have had her 5 months. Idk how old she is. A gift from my sis, she got her from her inlaws. I thought she was sooo beautiful ♡
Vickiw, I hear ya on the worm thing, too cute!
Irish, hi (insert waving guy)

T-ball cancelled tonight :-( we practiced in the pasture. Everybody driving by must think were NUTS lol were trying to run bases and tripping over chickens, turkeys, dogs, and the cat lol we had lots of fun!
The chickies are doing awesome. They love wandering all day. I swear their crop absolutely could NOT stretch any more than they have!

Well nighty night for me. Another 3am 12 hours for me again.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........zzzzzzz....zzzzz...zzz..z....

good morning,, have not gone outside yet, but it looks dry, if not warm..

I might not make it to the bash.. the Blazer decided to pick this time to start acting up.. I thought it was water in the gas, .. cleared that off the list.. now it must be wires..

I have to see if Dick can take a look at it..

I hate to take time away from the GH project to mess with a car..

guinea hatch is over.. not good at all.. have only 4 out of over 20 ??? WTH ??? I will give them one more day of grace.. the ones that hatched did it strongly, so the rest of the eggs must be bad.. like I said before,, a lot of these were Marlene's eggs and she collects forever.. can't do that .. the birds can,, we can't..

.........jimnotinarealgoodmood...........
Bummer Jim...about the truck and the guineas! Hope your day gets better!!!

Indian Shores ?? I lived there for about a half a year in the early '70's .. I guess it has gotten larger since then..
That is exactly where we were. I love that place. It is such a beautiful campground, and hardly anyone was up there this weekend. It is huge. Lots of ticks, though.

Sorry to hear about the blazer & the guineas. Hopefully it's an easy fix. We can't have a bash without our famous pancake flipper.

Wow! Pretty slow today.
Jim, I really hope you can make i t this weekend.
Cc, when I went to my moms place in winter a lot, I found that if I used garlic while cooking the ticks werent as bad. I even add it to my dogs food. Last spring the poor dogs heads were bleeding from all the horse flys. So I added garlic. No issues :) I also ocassionally give it to the chickies.
Kristip, I know this will probably be a financially rough time for you, but I am very jealous of the time you will have with your kiddos. I hope you enjoy every second! And feel free to come here and gripe when you cant take it anymore! Lol

Busy dayat work today! Cant wait to get out!
I have rally with the pup tonight :) will be fun!
Have a nice afternoon all!!

I'm going to go look at incubators. Not "for sure" that I'll come home with one, but a lot of people are incouraging me to do so and to try my first couple of hatches out first for practice before ordering expensive eggs on rare breeds b/c so much can go wrong. Does anyone have any hatching eggs for sale? If so, what kind and how much? I'm just looking at a smaller, more affordable incubator to start out with. I can't drop $350-700 right now, as I've heard prices can range pretty good dependingo n what all you get. I've also heard you can get a name brand one for $149 on sale - but it only holds 7 eggs??? Really??? My friend told me a few weeks ago she got one at Farm & Fleet for only $45 ($30 more for the auto rotate) and it hold 48 eggs or 41 with the rotator in it. Okay, yeah, I realize you can't always buy the cheapest model out there and I realize you get what you pay for. But I'm just giving an example. A 7-egg one for $150 on sale vs a 48 egg one for $45??? Who wouldn't try to get something cheaper when you compare it like that? Know what I mean? I've no clue what kind it is, if it'll work, or if I'll hve constant problems with it, but if they have better ones that are $100-150 I'm willing to get a better one. But to be honest, I wouldn't know a better one if it was staring me in the face. It's all a toss of the dice for me since I've never done this before.

Hi all, seems everyone is busy w/gardens and hatching and it's mostly going well!
Sorry that I can't remember names, but the bantam roo story tickled me! Hey, ya cant blame him for getting while the getting's good! Lol
I have since changed from the biner clip to a padlock so it's also kids proof. :{

PsychoPeep...there is a definite difference in quality between incubators...humidity control, egg turning (too much jarring of a turner can cause issues with forming chicks) etc. I do know that the Brinsea incubators are excellent...but spendy. You can try to locate a used one? Sometimes people have incubators for sale on BYC also.

Dang phone... I wasnt done writing!
Nice coop Chad! Have u checked out Cluck (the chicken store) in Paoli yet? Susan may know of someone u can get chicks from. (I'm from Bville too! Crazy small world!)
Don't rememberer what else I read... anyway,
Gotta coax my kid in for a nap. Thats getting harder and harder to manage!

I can tell you, I have the cheap one from farm and fleet. It sucks. Do not bother buying any incubator without a fan. I have a used hovabator with a fan. It's decent. Then I have the brinsea, 7 eggs. I set it, and forget it. The temp is constant. The otate is accurate. While I love ATTEMPTING to incubate lots of eggs, I'm lucky if I get 25% to hatch. Spend the additional money once. But a genesis hovabator. It's a set and forget. It has great reviews for success rates. So does the brinsea but it is more of a classroom incubator (see through and small number of eggs).

I have dropped hundreds on eggs that have never hatched. I should have one nice incubator. Instead I have 3 not so great. I started all this hatching addiction last year. Listen to me, I know...

Just keep trying BF4... we will all let you try everything out and get frustrated with the hatch rates...hehe

on a side note, we used one of the F&F styrofoam incubators with turner and fan for past two hatches. First one was 50% hatch and the last one was 75% hatch rate...not too bad. Guess I need to figure out if I have to do something different to Hatch guineas because no one around here has any...will have to try some eggs!.
