Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

A very dreary good mornin' to you all!

GR - Michelle is not one of the girls I got from you - one of the little production reds I got from JJ. She's still drinking the "kool aid" and she moves around a bit but she is still in sad shape. I've given her bits of food but she's not eating much (if any).

Hope this weather clears! My seedlings are drowning on the deck!!

Have a great day!

No way! I already have some going to a new home when they grow up!

Good on the hatch jim :)

Delish, sorry about your babies :'( I agree on the ff. It doesn't take long for that stuff to get packed.

Amyb, I hope your little guy starts to feel better soon. And once you can make a habit of getting up, its not so bad. I just got lazy once I actually lost the weight. Now its just creeping back. Wish I could make myself start again. I actually have a borrowed elliptical holding the carpeting in place on the sun porch right now...

Cind, I hope you catch up on some z's!

Cs, hows things going with the house?

Cuties-the underwriters just got verbal verification of my husbands employment
barnie.gif
I am not sure why the underwriters are so knit-picky, they already had employment verification on paper 2 weeks ago! This is the slowest process that I've ever been a part of. The lady at the mortgage company hopes that we will get the "clear to close" today, then the attorneys will schedule the closing. I have never bought a house, so this process is really frustrating to me as the mortgage company is not helpful in explaining anything or following up on anything, I've always been the catalyst for them to inquire about the progress!

Jim, good luck on the big full incubator..!!
Quote: Honestly I do not know. I have been using the same ACV starter for years. I just buy a cheap unpasturized gallon and add a glop from the old bottle and store it in my broom closet.
I hope you don't mind me jumping in... and I too have the CRS syndrome. As I read posts daily I keep thinking of comments /questions but can't remember names.

I'll do my best
As sad as it is for everyone, I'm thankful to hear I'm mot he only one struggling to get the garden done. I know we needed some rain, but enough already! I'm in need of some nice warm days.

Bigfam, I grew up in Mazo! Sauk isn't too small, but it'd be neat if we had friends in common.

@ who has the fake leg?? My ex - father in law was a prosthetist and I worked with him for a few years. Its.interesting. to hear some of the latest stuff they do now! Sorry to hear of all your challenges. I need to lose about 15 lbs. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it would totally help how I feel. My youngest is almost three and I keep thinking it'll be easy to lose. Ha! Also I'm 2 months post - op and cant believe how dog tired I am sometimes.
My DH started running a few weeks ago, wakes up early to do it.....makes me feel like a lazy slug. I'm proud of him tho.
Gonna head to bed.... my older son is spiking.g temps at night the lastfew but seems ok during the day.? Hopefully nothing elsecomes.ofit. the last 2days of school are usually pretty fun. Id hats to keep him home. He missed Tuesday b/c of it.
I'm gonna have to figure out the ff thing. I'm totally interested and it seems.like it would be easy but I'm a little.confused. lol not that its hard to do!
(Sorry for all the extra periods, its hard to correct everything on the kindle.)
I like that I can actually see/read about you guys. My phone doesn't show the siggy stuff:rolleyes:
Welcome to the group!!

FF is easy. It gets hard if you make it hard. Keeping it simple works until you know how it works.
Use a bucket, fill it 1/4 full of feed, cover it in water. Stir it twice, add water till the wet feed is covered in water. Stir twice a day and always check to make sure it is under water. The water protect the FF from bad molds. You want good molds.

You can use a starter to start the FF, or you can allow the environment to make the micro bacteria as you go.

Ideas for starters:
Unpasturized ACV

LABS
Unflavored, yogurt
Raw milk
Kefir
Cheese whey

This website has tons of information written by people who raise chickens. Some are scientists, some are Vets, most are regular old farmers..like me and you.

Just popping in to say Good Morning all !!

About the ACV with Mother..... I just made some coffee in the micro and sitting next to the micro was a bottle of Heinz brand ACV, all natural "with the Mother". I forgot I bought it. I think I got it at Wallmart and it was by the other ACV... just FYI now to go back and read about ff.

Doc, I'm been meaning to email you but sorry my brain fog has the best of me this week. I am so so sorry for you losing Taz !!

(((HUGS))) Glad you have the two little devils to keep you occupied.
My kitten decided to get stuck on one of those long yellow fly catchers I put by the window. It was stuck under her chest and to get it off she had to lose some hair. Now she is all gooey too !!! Gotta love em.!!!

Woke up this morning to a text from the girl that was going to give me the female pup. The cocker/doxi/poodle/shitzu !!! She decided to keep it because she is so small and the other female died and they want to keep it with mom !!! Last I heard they were rehoming Mom !!! Jezuz !!!!! Make up your mind !!!! I just bought the pup a cute pink quilt at Good Will for $1.... I was getting excited !!! I am about an inch away from blasting this woman. Now if she has two unspayed females and daddy dog no fixed wonder when the next batch of pups will be here. Mom has had two litters in 6 months already. Then wonder when the older pups she gave away will start reproducing !!!! Crandon will be full of small dogs running the streets because she said she didn't now what people were going to do with the pups or get them fixed or not.
Ok, gott get dressed. ET went to the PO to get my duckies and chickies and I have to be in Antigo at 11am. Gotta fly !!

I feel so bad, we have had nothing but sunshine the whole trip..... we are hoping for some storms at some point....

Amy, you are asking me questions I will have to check on later..... I am still trying to figure this camera out so baby steps!

Off to Yellowstone this morning! The Big Horn mts still have snow on the tallest peaks... a beautiful sight first thing in the morning...

Stay dry everyone!

NGIE-my battery hens came from a guy who decided he was in over his head, which he was, and sold all his "inventory". I wound up taking the ones no one wanted which meant they were the worst of the worst, which was really saying something since my neighbor got some of the first and the "best" and the poor things barely had a feather. I guess technically these were "cageless". He had 200+ layers in two possibly 10+10 cages with one tree limb in one side for roosting and 6 metal boxes on the only wall (the rest was floor to ceiling chicken wire) and the whole thing was in the half of an old barn that was still standing, no kidding. I wonder why every hen had cold damage to their combs, Geesh. Common sense told me to leave them but I just couldn't. They turned out be the sweetest girls and I heard the first one purr with in days!!! Sadly only 3 made it but the one I lost still had 2 months of being a real chicken and passed away with little suffering in her sleep. Of the 3, one has a blow out I couldn't fix so she looks like she has terminal vent gleet that requires regular butt washing washing is otherwise a happy chookie. The other two have become beautiful hens, one actually turned out to be an Aussie (couldn't tell till she finally regrew her feathers) but both have stopped laying, different stories. Anyway, they are now in retirement I guess I will have to build them little rocking chairs. Good thing I have Noodle my little egg laying machine and the 3 new chicks.

Good late morning! Sure can tell when it's rainy...so much to catch up on! (but nothing is really happening!) LOL!
where to start?

TO- all those chicks look like cukoo chicks to me all black with that yellow spot on the noggin. Any look lighter than the black ones? Maybe you have cracked the sex linked EE solution.
Now wouldnt that be nice JJ? I did have two chicks that were yellowish (but still had the spot) The Mom to those is an EE that is white and black; the other Mothers are Blue Ams. Perhaps I need to take note of the sexes now? I didnt band them yet since they are contained and separate from all the other chicks right now.

Every body stop picking on Terri about her drinking problem! LOL
She will just blame it on her computer's autocorrect.
Not sure what you guys are seeing in that post....unless you are referring to the typos? Yeah--not drinking, just trying to keep the order here with little kids and big bratty ones!
Oh, I forgot to ask what battery chickens are.
THey are this little bird that you get with a hatch to but the batteries in...they never poop and that is why folks want them! (dont believe me OK)
Oh me, me...that is what I love too! I am taking volunteers....
Re-lining fishin poles today for the trip Nort. Looks like we'll be coming home in the rain but I really don't care Pfft! Don't know if my tude is getting better or not but I'm starting to worry less about getting things done. Less work = more fishin.

Yeah for your attitude adjustment! Perhaps it just took you longer to get into the "retired" mode? You have been for how long now? Four years?
Frenchie-not that long ago I was told the ET stood for "egg toast", but as I was thinking...if you are FrenchToast, shouldn't he be "EnglishToast"?
Hey, I kinda LIKE that! I always thought it should be E'nT--for eggs and toast! But what does Chuck want Frenchie? (Thinking that he really doesnt give two shts!)

Well--I guess I need to get moving here...the kids will be here before I know it...oh yeah, they arent related Frenchie! I answered an ad in the local paper. They werent supposed to come for the summer as of last week but then their Granny had a seizure and broke her nose. Now she isnt sure she wants them for the summer. So I am back to not knowing what is going on! I have two interviews for other kids next week! I may end up with a houseful!

Talk to you all later! Have a great day...TerriOheadingouttoplantthosebeansthathavebeensoakingtoolongalready

Thanks Delisha! The info was really helpful, and sounds easy enough!
Battery birds= awful!!! :( I cant believe Big Government allows such terrible treatment of our 'food supply'. You'd think they would want healthier birds. I hate the whole 'Monsanto' selfish ways of government. ugh..... sorry. I won't get started.
I love all the info here @ BYC! I learn something new everyday.

Easy, just go into the menu and find 'image size' (on my Nikon its under 'shooting menu'.) It should give you options of small, medium, large, and tell you the size and dimensions of each. Small or medium should be just fine for your trip shots, unless you want to blow something up to wall-sized. Large files just give you more pixels to work with.
