Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good evening! I am finally sitting down...what a LOOOONG day! Got 1/3 of my veggie garden weeded before heading to my gardening job. I had to borrow a shirt from the woman because I was drenched by the time I was done in her garden! Then I headed over to my 2xweek sitting job. The little girl had a huge melt down when it was time for me to leave...her Dad is SO patient. Yeah, if it was my kid...nevermind. So then I decided to hit the grocery store. Somehow I came home without the granola bars! I hate that. I have to call them in the morning now...so I am reading and resting and typing. I havent gone out to do anything outside as yet except for rescue a just hatched chick. I heard it screaming when I got home. Evidently it couldnt get back into the coop. I popped it in with it's 3 Moms. YES THREE...there are 2 white and a black hen that hatched one chick each. I put the rest of the forgotten eggs in the bator and had one hatch today. 6 to go.
Speaking of broody hens...wait until you see how little Super Mama is BIgFam! I call her a 3/4 size chicken. THey flatten out so much that I think they can easily cover 12 eggs. I give my larger ones 13-15 eggs.
Did Terri set a time?

How many eggs can a NORMAL hen handle? 6? My birds are not like Terri's super mommas. I mean how huge is the chicken momma to cover 14 eggs???
Whatever time you want to get here after 1:30. That is when the kids come so I know I will be home. I may be here earlier but you never can tell....
wanted to share some great news...i can honestjy saw for the first time that i think Latte is going to make it...and its looking like full recovery! still wobbly but legs are getting under her, shes bright eyed and eating a ton. lots of prayer and pampering and im hopeful! just trying to get some weight on her. thanks for all the advice and support.

Great job on the nursing care!
I am not the poop expert..i think there is someone who trains them not to poop in the coop..perhaps he also trains to wipe...lol

My birds have a dirty butt..I feed FF so at least it does not stick. It reminds me of young boys undies. The *streak*....

I will have Lydia with me and be there around 2:30 ish. I had a typo before DD3 not DS. My DS6 will be distraught that he did not come too but he has River Rats Day camp this week. They take em out and get em wet roll em in the mud and creatures and have you pick em up at 3pm to bathe and get stories of the days discoveries.

raising them right, covered in outside dirt.

Hi All! whew.... I had checked in quick first thing this a.m. and just had to catch up on 10 pages!
Been busy here all weekend. Dad left for home this morning. got the call he made it home safe around 8:30, so 12 and 1/2 hrs isn't bad time. (yuck)
DH had his annual GMO (golf outing with his college buddies) Saturday and we host every year so I was busy cleaning/cooking. This year was much more mellow than last.... maybe age is catching up to them?! Our 'bar' used to be known for the 4am closing time, and it seems to get earlier every year! lol DH kept his limit low and actually didn't end up hungover! he managed that a couple weeks ago and cursed himself for a week.
Anyway, glad to hear most are doing well. BF4M - sounds like things got squared away. It was so helpful, Thanks for posting, I have my food and water inside my coop and will be changing that up quick! I was going to ask if it is normal for them to go back in the coop during the day for 'snacks and naps'? I thought they'd want to be outside all day? It's only been a week that I let them out on free range and we had lots of 'dog friends' visit, so that's likely a lot of why they are leary about venturing too far from the coop, but still? inside?
Another question, would the bloody stools be black or red?
There are a few droppings around that are like blackpudding.... and also twicec today I saw my 6wk Aussie squirt and it was really watery like?? Is there a forum page to get poop info?? (Not that ya'll can't/won't help, I just don't want to bother you with poopy talk if I should look elsewhere.
All my chicks appear healthy and happy, but when I hear some of you talk about sick chicks, I get worried.

Ugh! another late nite for me.... gotta quit this!
gnight all~
Watery poo is common when it is hot. Blackish, greasy, smelly ones are too. Those are called cecal $hits. Honest.
