The radar is looking pretty ugly, Terri. If it is still raining this afternoon, I don't think I'll be coming.

I just don't move in the mud. And I sure as heck won't be getting into your house. Lol! Sorry.

jvls1942- thank you for the information. I had originally put water in but have since removed and started over. Im not too sure of the thermostat so may have to make a menards run. I wanted to have it stable by Saturday which is lock down. This will be my first incubating experience. Id always in past let my Speckled Sussex set on eggs. So much to learn, thankful I've had this site to help me along.

IDK what you will find at Menard's.. If you had more time, it would be worth your while to go on line and get a wafer set-up.. or for a little more money, a solid state thermostat.. A little pricey at first, but will save you many eggs and will last for many years.. I have some that are over 40 years old.. might have to replace a wafer every few years..

but you do what ya gotta do, eh ?

Morning everyone!
So sorry that it looks like all of you to the south are getting rained out. We had to water the gardens this morning.
ANGIE - :thumbsup
Went to Carter yesterday for their birthday party. Got a free lunch, a nice gift, AND we both came home with more money in our pockets than we left with. Kewl.

QUESTION FOR CHICKIE GURUS - when do you put your chicks in with the big girls and how do you do it?

My babies are 12 weeks old now and have actually been in the coop for 2 weeks in their cage that opens out into their own run inside the regular run. They are getting big and really want ting to explore the bigger world they can see.

Cute babies Deli! I would love to have a momma duck with babies sometime, so sweet. But then i'd have to go get rid of the babies because I ain't keeping them all...
I just eat the ones i do not sell. I love duck. I would not have them unless i did.

I really do not have experience with integration. All my birds are used to many age differences. The youngest gets picked on by the ones just older, and up the ladder it goes. The males play together and the girls are busy beating up the young ones. I have many hiding places for little ones that bigger ones can't get to. They learn quick who to run from when they are tiny. I really only have two bullies, and week old chicks already know who they are and start screaming for mom if they can see them.

good morning folks

hot and sunny, might get a t-storm later this afternoon,,,,par for the course I'm helping a friend make hay,,should rain about time I'm done raking

vickie those 12 week olds should be able to take anything the old biddies have to offer, heck they should be laying in another 5-6 weeks

had some buckwheat delivered want to get planted before I head out,,,

tc folks,,,,,,for those of you heading to the hay party,,,,enjoy the heat

Vicki, at this stage, you can just open the cage ( sounds like they are kept in an area where they can see but not touch ritlght now. The babies will come out when their comfortable. The big ones probably wont want much to do with the pen. The babies can go back in for a safe area. There will be a little pecking and chasing. Just stick around to keep things under control :)
