BTW, you should check out our intern..... he left us all in the dust for our run!

Finally got that last flat of the 5 done........ MAYBE the berries will be frozen by tomorrow morning!

Planted the potatoes finally! Note to self, plant them BEFORE they start sprouting thought the mesh baggie! I was sitting outside with my pocket knife shredding the bags so I would not break off the shoots!

I am doing an experiment with those taters too. I poked a ton of holes in the bottom of the duck kiddie pool and spread the bottom with straw, the potatoes, more straw, some dirt, and a top dressing of straw. Now we just wait and see how well they do in such confined quarters.....

TO, next hay delivery give us a week warning.......

Judge - hope you feel better soon . :(

I hope and pray for a loooonnngg summer/late fall? I just added more watermelon and cantalope to the garden in the spots they didn't come up..... If it works out, I won't be harvesting til Sept. lol I guess it could be worse, ey? I still have a 6' square that's empty that I'm debating on what to put in..... thinking onions or some herbs? I don't know my time constraints with either.

good luck with all the broodys!

My chicks have finally ventured further than 30 ft from the coop! I looked out and saw them all running around playing keep away with something and laughed.... and felt so happy and proud. It probably sounds dumb, but they really make me feel happy. I never thought a chicken would make me feel that way.
My cat is doing his damdest to get my attention.... I'm on my laptop, in the recliner and he's layed out across my arms/stomach as I type. silly boy!
Colton, thinking of you and the sick chick..... hope things are going better.

gnight~

Well, there went that double post (or should I say quadruplicate)?

The only thing I'm going to repeat is a huge thank you to Vicki, for going out of your way to stop and pick up those eggs and take a peek at my flock!

And another big hug for your DH for being so sweet.

I sure hope you told Bigfam what he said. I'm sure she'd love it.

JUDGE - OUCH!!!

OK, I have my buckets and I am ready to go for it. A final stupid question. (Ok, or two) My dry feed is Nutrena layer pellets. Is that good to use as fermented feed? What about Nutrena chick starter/grower crumbles for the chicks? Do I or can I throw in other grains?

Now I need to go pick some rhubarb leaves to make my spray. Darn aphids are attacking my peppers in the greenhouse.
This is just my opinion..

I use all flock chick starter for all my fermentation. Everyone gets the same thing. I do not buy layer at all...ever. I save my money and give free choice grit and oysters. I offer fresh herbs instead of the additional additives in layer feed. Layer feed is hard on male birds and ducks. Layer feed is manufactured for an all in and all out operation. One year on layer will not hurt anyone. It is the build up that can be destructive. I keep may males for more than one year and I do not want fertility issues. I never have and hope I never will. It can give kidney issues and decrease fertility. Everyone can eat chick starter with out any side effects or health issues.
Some pellets have glue added to bind them. It is not a good reactor in fermentation. If your pellets are glue free, they are great to use in FF. You can also ferment scratch grains.

I wish I had read up yesterday because I would have gone with Vicki to the hay party.
Vicki- what is your schedule like for this Friday or Saturday? If you are available, could you head this way to help identify roos? I'm off both days.
I would have loved to company to drive with!
I am available Friday. Saturday I am selling ducks at the fair.

They were for me too..I wish you could have made it. You were missed but I got to visit with you, everyone was jealous, especially ..you know who...

I did not tell her since she was a bit..umm jealous already.

THe hay party was fun! Unloading was very fast. It was great to have all the help--I owe you guys big time! Cuties took home 2 turkeys and two very tired kids. THe 4 of them had a great time running around outside and catching fireflies. We even shined for a few nitecrawlers. I described to Blake (3) that they sucked back into the ground like a piece of spaghetti...he told me he didnt like to eat worms!

The pork sammies were delish, as was the watermelon. We also had cheese and sausage and LOTS of water! Oh man I was sweating up a storm. Cuties DH (Scott) can really throw a bale!

If I have a longer lead time next cutting I will let you all know...it would be nice to do it on a weekend so we could have a campfire and sit around a bit after! I need to hit the hay (and I now have some!) Good night to all! TerriOeternallygreatfultomyBYCfriends
