Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Such beautiful chicks and ducklings and your too delisha. Im very jealous of you all. I had hopes for jubilee out if Mary Lou but another day another time. What don't kill ya makes you stronger right?! Or smarter? Life's lessons really suck sometimes.

Jvls1942- I had the fan hard wired with an old plug from portable DVD seems to be working great. Im now down to a 3 degree variable which at the moment is the best I can do. The thermostat cost is not an object, was just trying to get it working before lockdown which is tomorrow(was a day off originally) if 97-100 dry heat, isn't going to work for this I'll just be patient and leave them in the Brinsea to hatch.

You are right there, Stacy. Sorry about your birds.

Heather, has Riga ever been a mom before? Do you know how she'll react to the chicks? I assume you have her in her own area? Fingers crossed for a few peeps for you!

Well 2 less Roos , by choice this time. Glad they're gone. While I detest coons, I hope they make a meal of those two.

Still waiting to see if any of the eggs I picked up yesterday hatch from Deli. And no CC, I have NO flipping PATIENCE!!! Please please please even let just 1 of the 4 hatch so she can be a momma! Today I was relieved to see Riga and the Ameracauna off the nests on their own to eat. Hooray!
They will all hatch..leave them be.

What did you do with the two roosters?
They take off in the woods?

CC, here is a site that may help...

http://www.avianweb.com/eggbinding.html

It does not sound like egg bound to me, if her vent is that gunked up. Keep in mind the average life span is roughly 5-10years. I would make certain the bird is getting all of it's nutritional needs fulfilled. See if it will try some yogurt, oranges, does it have a mineral block vs a cuttlebone (you should always supply mineral block vs cuttlebome). Thankfully I have never had this issue with any of my budgies, my issue is that they are too fat!

BTW the mamma budgie was sitting on a nest of duds. Papa bird is shooting blanks.

Anyway, I better get to bed.....

This summer cold turns out to be a virus that's going around. And for the hubs (who brought it home from work), it turned into pneumonia. I had the store closed yesterday because I had a little fever and I'm going to lay low for a few days. I don't have the strength to tackle any garden work right now.

Y'all take your vitamin C, drink lots of fluids and wash your hands a lot - this thing is misery! You DON'T want it - trust me.

Hope you feel better!
Thank you all for your sincereness. I may have found two different people to take my Chickens on the understanding they would have to be a closed flock. I will find out tomorrow. I know some may not understand my decision but its what I've come up with so far versus me killing them. Which is how I feel about it. Neither parties has a flock to infect and I know them well enough to know they wouldnt take them off their property .
Aww- so sorry. Good luck with your incubator

Surprise, surprise, momma Scovy hatched her babies today! Right about 28 days too. Maybe they take after daddy?

Looks like only 1 didn't hatch, so lucky 13.

Cute!

Feeling better today. I made it to both games last night, but was definitely feeling it later.
Checked on broody girl today and saw worms in her poo!!!! Yuck! Thank you Delisha for the advice. Anyone else have experience with this? I have never dewormed before and now I have to do all the birds (even the 6wk old chicks?) and the goats and mini too. Darn.

Good evening! Quick post for me...I have to take DS to work in the morning and he has to be in Madison by 7. I guess I will take a nap when I get home? I havent locked up yet.
Hey all you people who have or have had parakeets, I need some advice. My SIL has one that is around 8 or so. She said her bottom is all wet/damp and she just wants to huddle/sleep. She also said that there looks like a bump somewhere close to her vent. What do you think? Egg bound? What can be done for it/her? She has tried calling around to some vets but noone wants to see her. Any ideas?
What I did when I got egg bound birds was to take them into a steamy bathroom in their cage and let them in there until they laid the egg. (with the hot water running in the shower) It worked every time! THe most important thing to do for a sick bird is to give them heat. Put the cage on a heating pad set to MEdium and cover 3 sides of the cage and the top to keep the heat in. Sometimes that is all they need.
They will all hatch..leave them be.

What did you do with the two roosters?
They take off in the woods?
I was wondering the same thing!

Good night folks! TerriOwhohasreallyreallysorethighsfromclimbingupanddownthehaystack

Quote: The males are usually larger than the females. I have large females, about 8-9lbs. The males are about 11lbs or more. My black male is really getting his frame in now and bulking up, he is 1 1/2. My blue male is not done growing yet, he will be a year old soon. They both should weigh around 12lbs at maturity.

The feathering looks really good on your chicks. That lacing on those blues are really nice. I do not have them that pretty. The one blue male I kept is too dark for showing I think. he has a tank of a body and kept him for that.
