Cindlady, I did take the kayak out looking for them. I still have a hard time believing a predator took them that evening. I have no hope for them being alive now, but I looked everywhere I could think of that night.

X2 Just don't try to eat choke cherries (also called serviceberries) off the tree, they have a strange dry-your-mouth-out quality when fresh. They make a very dark, rich jelly.Heather, You should get to know choke cherries,, they make excellent jelly and wine..
same with elderberries...
my favorite raspberry are the goldens.. although wild raspberries make wine that hits you like sloe gin.. You don't know you are helpless until you try to stand up..
