Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cindlady, I did take the kayak out looking for them. I still have a hard time believing a predator took them that evening. I have no hope for them being alive now, but I looked everywhere I could think of that night.

Fine. I will admit it. I don't have that faintest idea what a choke cherry is or a black cap. Must be a fruit if you can make jam from it and BabyL is willing to pay a premium to make her fingers black for them.

I know what a mulberry is and exactly what type of bird crap it makes and how it looks baked onto the windshield of your car.

Jim Jim Jim, I look at those special pictures you sent me all the time. I don't want to say too much but tutu, sandals, bad lighting, and bear skin rug...

BF4, blackcap aka black raspberry. They are PRIMO! My favorite berry.

JJ, there is no way I would go berry picking without a good layer of denim on all over, a BBcap, and cruddy tennies or boots. Been there, done that. You should see the get-up I put on to pick blackberries...... and what my arms look like after.

Too bad your blackcaps will no longer be ripe when I am headed down that way.

This is where I go and pick berries. I wish they had their price list up for u-pick...

I took some time after work to check out some road bikes; ouch they are expensive! I found a schwinn though that will not break the bank too badly, time to start saving some $. Thank goodness my employer will kick in some $ for the purchase of a bike!

Maybe today we will go visit the ducks.....

good cloudy morning with no rain forecast, a perfect wisconsin day..

I did not order the GH cover yet, but I have a catalog .. the 6 Mil UV plastic in a 14 foot by 25 foot piece is just under $60.oo with free shipping.. they say it will last at least 4 years.. I figure it will last more than that up here where the sun doesn't shine all that hard all year.. I will wait to put it on until just before fall, so that should get me an extra season out of it.. by the time it needs replacement, it will be somebody else's problem..

I think I can get away with all the baby species and ages mixed together is because there are so many that no one stands out as different.. and as babies, the pecking order has not kicked in yet.. basically, I just dump 15 or more new ones in with whatever is in the brooder and there are too many to choose from, so none get picked on..

I have the last 5 purlins cut, all I have to do is nail them in place, add a couple of cross bracing and the roof is finished.. I will take a picture when it is all done.. eventually I have to build two doors.. I have it framed up so that I could use real doors, if I can find some cheap enough on C L or at a rummage sale.. No rush on that , either..

HeII, I might even create some spare time to go fishing once this summer..

Heather, You should get to know choke cherries,, they make excellent jelly and wine..
same with elderberries...
my favorite raspberry are the goldens.. although wild raspberries make wine that hits you like sloe gin.. You don't know you are helpless until you try to stand up..

Rhubarb makes wine that tastes like Chateau LaSelle.. (sometimes)
a bad batch resembles kerosene..

IDK what I did today, but this cuppa is really good.. I am not even tempted to go to town for a cup..

I'm all rambled out,, somebody else take over......

Happy 4th folks!

cried wolf (errr coyote) on the Cayuga,,,,she was in the yard this morning,,no idea why she hid after the noise and kids were gone yesterday,,,surprised she survived the night,,,coons were in again,,,might rename her Lucky

Jim just to add to you list of things that keep you from fishing,,,,you should paint those purlins white,,,

all this berry talk and locally they just started this week, a trip to Merries is planned. My raspberry planting is giving me fits, lost a lot of plants, hooked up the drip irrigation this morning hoping that some feedings will help.

egg customer,,,,bbl

Yep, looked at that site BabyL, never had a black raspberry, or purple raspberry either. I think a blackberry is different than a black raspberry. I don't like blackberries because they always have that hull thing in the middle, yuck! I'm pretty sure I haven't have the golden raspberry either. I mean, I knew raspberries came in different colors, but I don't go places that have them. A combination of laziness and cheapness. Apparrently I'm too lazy to look up where I could go to pik some. I'm also too cheap to but fancy ones at the grocery if and when they might have them.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

I have a woman and her little son here picking mulberries....they are going to make pie. I hope she adds dome other fruit too...kind of watery this year from the rain. My chokecherries are not big enough ter...I dont think they get enough sun. BL4 those black caps look fantastic at that farm...all I have here are the bramble/wild type and they are pretty seedy...I picked one yesterday, the first one! The bik trail here is covered with them as is the hill across the road. I am constantly pulling them out of my little woods...maybe you should come and get a few!

Put up a baby duck sale on CL again! Gosh I hope I get some response...maybe I should post in the Janesville one...my ducks are cheaper!

HEading back out...much to do here in that garden! GOt some nice cukes and zucchini from the CSA leftovers...good dinner planned for tonight for sure!

Have a good one! TerriO

X2 Just don't try to eat choke cherries (also called serviceberries) off the tree, they have a strange dry-your-mouth-out quality when fresh. They make a very dark, rich jelly.

So the scoop on Julie so far is the latest MRI showed the tumor is 2cm and confined in a duct, and hasn't spread to the surrounding tissue or nodes. At this point she is looking at a lumpectomy plus radiation. In 2 weeks when the genetics test results are in the doc will know more. But good news thus far!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!
