Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh jeez, now I have another type of berry I'm supposed to keep straight?! Thanks for nuthin' CC! :p

This dog o mine is 7 1/2 months old. He needs his balls removed as well, as this will supposedly help with impulse control. I don't know what it's gonna help with, other than may be removing that poisonous testosterone that is increasing his ideas of challenging me. Yep, he needs firm training alright. It's too bad my firm foot up his @ss wouldn't accomplish it. It would be much quicker! Here he has been better behaved the last week by following the most basic commands without being a punk. But I knew it wouldn't last. He has to go through a couple of classes. I wish I old afford to send him away to be trained. Yep, lazy way out, but I don't care. My plate is rather full a the moment, so I wish this didn't have to be added. But it does, so I will.

OH,OK, NOW I GET IT!!!! Did above post before reading this one. You have a male dog that has just entered his "teens" AND still has raging hormones!!! AND it's a hyper intelligent Poodle! :lau

Sorry FAN, don't mean to make light of your serious problem, but really, you are going to need A LOT of alcohol to get thru this one!!! (Moving you to the top of my prayer list)

I just wish drinking heavily wouldn't make me fat. Because then I'd drink as much as CC and all my troubles would just melt away........

good morning, Annie just left to meet the "peach truck" and get a couple of boxes of peaches from Ga.. I just came in from adding the last of the screws to the purlins.. the mosquitoes made me quit early last night.. I took a pitcher .. JJ, our resident feeds the dogs from the table whenever he can sneak it to them.. It is a constant thorn in my side with him.. the dogs are very smart, though.. they never come to my end of the table because they know it is useless.. Ken is 76 years old, too.. (going on 3 ) He knows all about "training" animals.. like,, if he feeds them , they will like him.. So far, neither dog has helped themselves to food from the table.. we did not teach them that, they just seem to understand where off limits is.. Unlike our old Anatolian who could stand flat footed and reach to the center of the table with her nose.. she once grabbed a frozen pizza off the table while Annie was setting the temp on the stove.. Annie grabbed Alex's collar and they struggled for the pizza.. during the struggle, the dog managed to eat the whole frozen pizza.. I of course sat in my chair and gave support by laughing my ***** off.. the roof ready for the final cover.. Note of interest, (to me at least ) .the oak tree in the back ground was accidentally planted as a seed in a pile of leaves I dumped out..
Wow Jim, care to trade???

She's going to St Vinnies in Green Bay. No chemo so far (thank goodness) unless the genetic testing reveals something. She is early 40's, and no history in her family either. She'll know more in a couple weeks. Thanks for the well wishes!

I go to Green Bay too, but to the Vince Lombardi Clinic at Aurora Baycare. Don't know how they are with breast cancer but are absolutely top of the ladder with blood cancers. Glad to hear they are taking the conservative route for her with the chemotherapy. As I am sure FRENCHIE can tell you, that is the new approach after a study released showing the long term damage from this is worse and far more damaging than originally thought.

Jim I am always so impressed with your building projects. I really truly am! I would use you for all sorts of things down here... building wise I mean. Get your minds out of the gutter people!!;)

Good morning...got up early--wasted a BUNCH of time on the computer already! Story of my life it seems. Gotta head out and feed. DS just came home--out all night again! He was fishing..caught one the size of his palm....no FFF here tonight!

Setting up the fair tonight too, judging is tomorrow for Cultural Arts (my department) Glad I decided to take a break from showing stuff this year; just didnt feel that I had the time to devote to it.

DD and horse get picked up from day camp today...DH is home so he is going to do it. It is not far away. I am not glad that the brat horse is coming back however! He just makes our big warmblood act like him and they terrorize my horses together.

I had stuff to say to you all...I really did! Cant remember too much though...only one cuppa so far! CC that was interesting stuff about chokecherries vs chokeberries. I definitely have the wild cherry type...planted by the birds and a host for tent caterpillars! I am always fighting them off. WHat I found interesting though was the berry article because now I know what those berries are on the bushes on the Palmyra horse trail! It sounds as though chokeberries are used in much the same way as the cherries...I know that they are much easier to pick too!

OK--gotta get moving here...TerriOwishingJimwouldcomehereanddosomebuilingtoo

good morning folks,

a few thoughts here,

Heather I have trained dogs since I was a wee lad,,,over 50 yrs. It takes time something you have very little of at this point. I could offer suggestions and tell you the methods I have used but I can't see that you have that one essential requirement. SO that being said,,,since this dog is destined to become a companion dog for Halden, I would guess that there was a support group that suggested this. I would also guess that they have someone in place to teach that xtra training that this will require. Perhaps someone there can suggest a trainer that could take the dog now and do the discipline training you need to start with. YOU can't teach and old dog new tricks and that pup isn't getting any younger. Perhaps an option? I know you and or the family will need to participate at some point, but lessons from a real "trainer" would be the way to go imho. I betcha if you talk sweet (shhhh CC) you might get some help in this department,,,,and hopefully at no charge (when you tell the whole story)

good luck, frustration with an animal takes all of the pleasure out and you need to move on to some positive steps, both for you and the dogs sake

bbl

Unk... I couldn't agree more. But I wondered, if a dog learns it from someone else, don't they just come back home and say"HA! You again?" And revert back to their old ways? That's why I figured I had to be the one to do it to make it "stick"

Tell her I thought she was only about 30 (well tell her 29), seriously, she looks like a thirty year old !!!

They do things a lot different I'm sure then when I had my BC, going on 25 years next month. Four days short of my 30th birthday. Because my tumor was so big and being younger (it is more agressive in younger women) I got chemo, radiation and a total mastectomy. Not an easy thing to do at 30 (the surgery part) The chemo was a piece of cake compared to the lung cancer (mets from bone cancer, not smokers lung cancer fyi) and the bone cancer at ages 13 & 15 yrs. I quit the chemo early and told the doctor "You try it !" LOL Guess I was a bit fiesty back then too !!

So, with all of that being said...... I"ve said it once and I'm up on my soap box again for a moment..... People, Listen to your Body and what it is telling you.... Women, get your mamograms even if they make your boobs turn into pancakes after doing them every year (oh wait that is old age that does that !!! LOL)
Men, get your prostrate checked out. I know you don't like a finger up you @ss but oh well.....and everyone over 50 should have their colonoscopy !!!!

AND Quit Smoking for Gods sake... Life is to short.......... Note, I didn't say anything about losing a few pounds.... I'm still working on that so I can't lecture anyone about that....

Cooler in the house then outside........ might not go out !!!

Oh, and on the duck duck goose saga..... I have 4 baby geese. They manage to sneak under a tiny gap under there run and leave Mamas (2 mamas) They stick around and when you walk toward them they will ditch back under. Don't have the heart right now to not let them come out. Knock on wood I haven't had any trouble with raccoons (neighbors take care of them) or coyotes or fox yet this year.
Plus with both Great Pyrenees and chocolate lab keeping an eye out it's quit a bit safer.

Oh and yesterday ET called me outside to see something..... There was a Mama Peahen with a baby walkin around. Then we sat outside to watch and their was another one.... I thought I was missing a hen... One hen had sat for over a month in the green house and never hatched an egg so I took them from her. So the missing hen obviously had a hidden nest. I think that is what got my black shoulder hen last year.... you know what they say about a sitting duck. Guess it applies to peafowl as well.

On the guinea front, no babies yet BUT I have quite a few missing as well and I'm sure they are hens sitting on nests, wondering when the little ones will make their grand appearance. My muskovies are sitting tight too.

Man, I don't know what I am going to do if all of those ducks hatch.... I have a problem rehoming... rehoming anything roosters included.

Looking into buying a swimming pool. Just a smaller cheaper one but I need one deep enough to tread water..... It is really the only form of exercise that doesn't hurt this old body.. Anyone have any suggestions on the ones that have the blow up ring on top or the metal frame poles? Intex or Summer Escapes. I see Walmart has a 14'x48" for $277 and a 16'x48" for $349 not on clearance yet.
Would have to find a flat spot in the yard and then have ET build something on the side for me to get into it.

BTW Jim,

I do look and enjoy all of your pictures. I did however miss the pictures of your babies the other day. I somehow missed a page as well because I saw people commenting about things I didn't remember reading about..... and Yes everyone I do read all of your posts.

I forgot to say earlier, I bought a kong toy for Cali girl and two monster mouth rubber toys for Butts and Dolly. They aren' cheap. I hid some sausage type treat in each one that I got for $.32 each compared to $1.29 (love clearance) Cali took the one monster mouth toy and started chewing it right away and actually pulled pieces off of it. it is made out of the same rubber as the kong toy but where the mouth is for the opening to hold the treat it is thin rubber. Not please that it was so easy for her to pull tiny pieces off. Only a few minutes. Looks like it would be harder now to pull any off but am contemplating taking those to back and getting two more kongs..... geez... but bought them at Fleet Farm and they act like you are commiting a crime when you return things !!!

Gotta call Menards to see if they have their larger kiddy size pools in stock for $9.99 for the pigs... The three little piggies have gained so much weight being free ranged that we had to cut way way back on their feed. Porky hardly fits in his small kiddy pool !!! Such PIGS !!!
Every time ET goes to the garage for something they all (mostly Porky) follow him. (that is where we keep their food). And of course he starts squealing in protest because he didn't get fed... Poor boy,,,,, my poor poor fat boy !!! I know how he feels.

Ok Frenchie... I don't want to brag (yes I do, whenever people start out saying that they really do) but I lost 15 lbs in a month. I expect much slower results from here on out which is fine. But it is nice to get a start. Now I really need to get to the gym and stop wasting all the money I'm spending on that as well. May be at 3 am?!?! That seems to be about the only time I'm usually free...
