Irish, the heat does the exact same to me. These days have been brutal.

I have been trying to work in my gardens in the mornings but it is still a challenge. Don't overdo it. You're still recovering from that bug, aren't you?

Oh, yes. It hung on for two weeks and I still have a residual cough from it. It sure doesn't help with the heat. At least I don't have to go out and water today. Rain at night is nice!

Hi all! Keepin up, but been busy! Hubby is outa town for the next twoo weeks. I am on 3-3 mon- fri. I hate getting my kids up at 1:30 in the am. I am running out of juice. Next week is 7-7. Will it ever end? My bday present today is hubby leaving :'(
I told him there is a reason I DID NOT mary a truck driver,( no offence to those of you that did) for a reason. And if I wanted to be a single mom that worked 60+ hours a week, I woulda kicked his
A $$ out a long time ago!!!!!!!
Im VERY frusterated to say the least. He gets to hang up north to build a cabin. Not fair. Better get some big $ coming my way.
Ty for the vent session.

Terrio, I was thinking of bringing the babies by this weekend. If the weather holds, think the kids could have another horsey ride?...

Back to work!

Deli... It is not unusual for marans to go 7 months before they lay. In fact, the longer they take to start, typically the darker the egg layer. There are some who go as long as 10 months before they start laying! Crossing my fingers you could have a 7-8 on the color scale layer on your hands!

I need advice on Riga. This is aimed more at Deli or TerriO. Riga has her 2 chicks in the general population. With the way my coop is set up, there are 2 big steps down to the lawn, and then 2 big steps up into the run which gets the birds into the coop. The chicks make it down, but they cant make it back up. Riga doesnt stay with them. She goes back into the coop. They are stuck outside peeping away for momma. For hours. Last night while I was at work, I had told the boys to be on the look out for this. They caught the babies, and then locked them and Riga up in the pen for the night. I dont want to keep them locked up all the time. They need the fresh air and exercise. But what do I do since they can't get back up, and she just leaves them? (At least she isn't going into the nesting boxes now though!)

I believe this is the site I used to date my jars. I am uploading a photo of some of what I have, the two on the left appear to be from 1910-1923, the middle blue jar (left of the 2 qt) is from 1923-1933 and is the majority of what I have for blue jars, the 2 qt is 1933-1960 but I do have an older one from the same 1923-1933 time frame.

I would have to run into the basement to find others, I think they are full of kraut.

Of course we have some on here who are more knowledgeable in this area, these are my best guesses.

good morning,, just read 24 posts.. TerriO , they say things come in threes..

Our storm started rolling in at about midnight.. lots of lightning.. I went to sleep, but Annie said at about 2 AM she let Dora out and the rain was coming down in sheets.. Dora didn't want to come back in, so both dogs spent the night outside..
the new plants should be well watered in..

I have a lot of eggs dated 7/7 so we should be hatching like crazy in the next couple of days..
might have to set up TV #3..

Stacy, nice job on the coop.. I know all about building by yourself,, One thing you learn is how to stretch out a tape measure.. I just hate it now, when I am going to measure something and somebody grabs the end of my ruler.. I tell them not to do that unless I ask them to.. another thing I learned was throw my hammer like a tomahawk.. I could drive a nail from 10 feet away..
My biggest complaint was that I was too short.. ( vertically challenged, Heather..) What you are thinking might have been Annie's complaint..

I have to get busy building the doors for the GH.. Puppy (Annie call him Gus) , likes to go in there when I am in there and lays down on my tomato plants.. Yesterday, when Annie was out there with me, she unloaded some words on that poor dog that I didn't know she knew..
Maybe I won't need doors after all..

I need to put some wind bracing through the rafters.. the side walls are a bit flexible,, I have to go pick up meat maker today, so I might as well pick up a few 2 x 4's too..

I just remembered that I have a pile of PVC pipes in the lean to.. I think I will make up a grid for hanging my tomato strings from.. I still have to steal some campaign signs from somewhere.. that wire they use is perfect for many projects where a good light rod is needed.. In this case, a small stake to anchor the string to the ground at the tomato's root..

In a couple of days the chicks will not have a problem with the steps.. they grow fast..
In the mean time, just lay down a board that they can walk up on.. If they can't figure that out..
you might have to show them..
I know, I am not TerriO or Deli, but that is my opinion..

good sticky morning folks,

had blood tests at the VA this morning so I am now eating some shortcake (not at pictured earlier) with strawberries and ice cream for breakfast (hope those tests come out good, I like this diet)

when my chicks were small I tossed a chunk of firewood at each step, a couple of days and they can jump and the wood got moved

nothing breaking down here of late, but did loose a couple old friends in the last 2 weeks, waiting on #3

lost a couple birds in this heat, both 2+yr old sexlinks, burnt out I guess, also sent 2 roosters to the freezer, making some room for the juveniles that need some space in coops and growouts. been nursing one of the Meredith pullets we'll see if this works

ok better go before I dribble on the keyboard ;-)

please don't consider me friend #3 right now...
I ate the last of the strawberry short cake .. waiting for Annie to go pick some more..

I'm snorting and giggling as I think of Unk dribbling on the keyboard right now. Of course I have several visuals going at once. All of which are grossly hilarious to me...

A board, so simple even an idiot couldn't think of it! Jeepers....
