Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Wow Stacy! Need a vacation? Free room and board in the north woods if you want ( just might be a building project or two tho ;) )

Just hanging out in the house waiting for a call back from my oncologist. Let's see. Nueskes Canadian bacon and a fresh egg on a slab of sourdough, a couple episodes of Duck Dynasty to catch up on, chookies happily snacking on their frozen strawberries and pa out puttering on his riding mower. ROUGH LIFE. :D.
thank you Lord.

Hi all! Keepin up, but been busy! Hubby is outa town for the next twoo weeks. I am on 3-3 mon- fri. I hate getting my kids up at 1:30 in the am. I am running out of juice. Next week is 7-7. Will it ever end? My bday present today is hubby leaving :'(
I told him there is a reason I DID NOT mary a truck driver,( no offence to those of you that did) for a reason. And if I wanted to be a single mom that worked 60+ hours a week, I woulda kicked his
A $$ out a long time ago!!!!!!!
Im VERY frusterated to say the least. He gets to hang up north to build a cabin. Not fair. Better get some big $ coming my way.
Ty for the vent session.

Terrio, I was thinking of bringing the babies by this weekend. If the weather holds, think the kids could have another horsey ride?...

Back to work!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

That is a blue gill. HUGE! Is fish guts a good animal protein for the chickies? If so, is there any kind they should not have?
Gut and feed anything but bones. My chickens pick a whole fish clean, but, they have been doing it for a long time. All that is left is a bone carcass. Some can injure themselves on the bones.
Deli... It is not unusual for marans to go 7 months before they lay. In fact, the longer they take to start, typically the darker the egg layer. There are some who go as long as 10 months before they start laying! Crossing my fingers you could have a 7-8 on the color scale layer on your hands!

I need advice on Riga. This is aimed more at Deli or TerriO. Riga has her 2 chicks in the general population. With the way my coop is set up, there are 2 big steps down to the lawn, and then 2 big steps up into the run which gets the birds into the coop. The chicks make it down, but they cant make it back up. Riga doesnt stay with them. She goes back into the coop. They are stuck outside peeping away for momma. For hours. Last night while I was at work, I had told the boys to be on the look out for this. They caught the babies, and then locked them and Riga up in the pen for the night. I dont want to keep them locked up all the time. They need the fresh air and exercise. But what do I do since they can't get back up, and she just leaves them? (At least she isn't going into the nesting boxes now though!)
Jim has the perfect idea..

I'm snorting and giggling as I think of Unk dribbling on the keyboard right now. Of course I have several visuals going at once. All of which are grossly hilarious to me...

A board, so simple even an idiot couldn't think of it! Jeepers....
lol

Oh... sorry I missed that! Happy Birthday Cuties!

X2. A very HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!

Went outside to check on the chicks and wound up in a battle with a large garter snake. Didn't want to hurt the thing just convince it it belonged elsewhere but boy this thing had ATTITUDE!!! Every time I tried to flip it out of the run with a t pole the thing would try to nail me and make a run back exactly where I didn't want it to go.. Didn't help the chicks were chattering at it and it was trying to nail them. I know it's not poisonous, but this one could have done some damage to baby legs or my bare feet and of course I didn't have my gloves! Glad my snake beating hen, Soup was busy napping by the house. She might have lost the fight with this one. I thought only those crazy little green snakes had this much snot. Finally wound up yelling for hubby and he grabbed it (of course he had his gloves) and took it back to the woods where it belonged. My hero.

Thanks for the honest replies...just wish there was a magical happy solution.
I find that roosters fit really well in a one gallon zip lock freezer bag

Rooster: free on Craigslist. Cull them while they're young. Or grow them out for food.

Shadow KILLED my absolute favorite teenager chick Sally today. I'm so sad. She was my first chicken to come up to me to be petted. I could pick her up, give her pats. I didn't do anything to tame her. She just came out that way. That f@cking dog better get a grip on this sh!t. Now I have no tame birds that want to be touched to pet. I didn't care so much before. It was enough that they run up o me for treats. But I had the BLRW from Del that was that way, and Sally. Now I miss the fact I don't have a tame bird around here.

it sucks @ss.
Not ready for Craigslist yet and I think the kids would "cull" me if I went with the other ideas. So sorry about your chick Sally.
you cant take birds there unless they are entered and/or tested.
Wasn't thinking of taking the bird there, just maybe flyers to hand out - or posting one on a board or something.
Yep, the rooster thing kinda sucks. To be honest, no body wants a rooster. I am leery of giving them away on Craigslist because I don't want thm used in cock fighting. Whether or not I want them, I don't want thm having that kind of life. I have gotten to thinking just cull as early as possible, when you know for sure it is a male. Less money wasted on feed, and the cull is easier. If you can cull and butcher then by all means, grow it out and have a meal! But I'm not there yet, so I'm picking the early cull route this year. (I say this knowing full well I have a RIR roo chick. Ggrrrrrrr, yes he needs to get done...)
The rooster thing really does suck...now @ 10 weeks we realize we have not 1 but 2 roosters to re-home. Our sweet little silkie started crowing this morning. Honestly this wasn't supposed to be this hard. We had a back-up plan before we ever hatched the eggs, but somehow those people that assured us they would be happy to take the roosters and any hens we couldn't keep seem to have forgotten those conversations.

Some douche stole one of my call duck pictures and is using it on one of their Craigslist ads. I'm thinking of emailing them and asking if they still have the duckling in that picture. If they say yes, I'm really going to lay into them.
