Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning--quick one here today...I have to do chores then off to lunch with my friend...she is working from home today so we are going to catch up--finally!
Welcome SJ--might be hard to catch up on those posts andkeep up with the new ones too! Where are you in Dodge?
Ok, I just read these and I know some of you will get a kick out of this....

Some are right up....... ummmmm some are more BF's taste? Nope, that's bad too....... well, you will just have to look to see what I mean.....

It is finally cool enough for sleeping I think.
I sure enjoyed them Mellie--laughing right out loud at some! I am glad that Taffy is feeling better...maybe she just missed home? I hope your news isnt too bad!
Hang in here babylady4.... Hope it is not s bad as it seems.

I have a dog related question... So the butcher gave us some bones for the dog when we picked up our quarter of a cow the other day. They appear smoked ( smell like it) he is working on one right now but it is stinky so stays outside where he is not all day long outside much. Can I freeze the other ones? How long until they go bad? I know it is a better, option than the rawhides he goes through so quick. Your thoughts? These are big knuckles, some with marrow that are half his size! Remember he is a large corgi so 35 lbs or so
My dogs inhale those smoked bones and I found out that they are not so good for them because of the splintering they do. The vet said that raw bones are better for them. I have very vigorous chewers though...you can freeze them if you want...just wrap them really well or seal in a meal sealer thingy so the smoke smell doesnt migrate to your other food! YUK!

THe garlic people sent me an email that the garlic was ready to order! I ordered some last night. OMG they have like 150 varieties! It was a hard choice for sure. I got one Asian one, good for stir frys; and one German one that is good for braiding. Now I need to learn to do that. You have to order 5 heads of each kind this year so if anyone else is ordering perhaps we can do some trading? The website is wegrowgarlic they are here in WI near Madison.

OK gotta run--talk later! TerriOhadahenandafinchdiefromheatsofar

Babylady: Pulling for you and hope everything is ok!!

My Cocci update: ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH So my DD waited around for 20 mins for medication yesterday they finally said they would call her when it was ready-no call. I call this morning-they said they would call me back. When they did, it was a vet tech that didnt know anything about it. I said I had given Corid...she starts spelling out apromilllium-I said thats the same thing. So she says well there is a list here you can come pick up and decide what you want to treat them with. I asked if I needed to treat my main flcok-no they should be fine if seperated-I then explained how contagious cocci is. I asked about treating for the 2 roundworm eggs-if that was a normal range or above average and to treat...she didnt know. I asked if EPrinex could be used on chicks 3.4-4 months....didnt know. Basically she wants me to come pick up the print out and get off the phone with her.

Bbl4 I hope its not too bad for you.

Kristi, the knuckles are not good for their guts. Hollow legs are better. You have to watch. If they break, discard immediately. Nylabone is a little $ but much better. You are correct on the rawhide. Not so good either.

To, when I stop, I might buy some of the garlic from you. Id lime to start garlick for the chickies. Their habit is getting pricy!

Welcome sj!! Goodnluck catching up ;-)

A pic to hold you over for the day!!

Bbp, I hope your chickies are ok. And that dog is now under control. I know your feeling. I have a neighbour with a dog like that. Even with fencing the property, I constantly worry.

Ang, ask to talk to somebody else and when you do stop in I would speak with the manager. That is her job, help answer questions.

This news is not health relater so no worries there. Just...... stressful.

It is so nasty outside I can't stand to be out more than a few minutes at a time. I feel neglectful. I did go get them feed so I guess I did something.
"ruffing it" says Casha :-D

So I finally found my fried cheesecurd eating, chicken loving Wisconsonites. Hi everyone. I live in Dodge county and just wanted to say hi. Only 39460 posts to read to catch up but....who am i kidding that is gonna take forever. Stay cool
Hello SJ,

good afternoon.. just sitting in the cool and waiting for a guy to come pick up his lift chairs.. between noon and one..

my flock reduction just took a hit.. A barock hen showed up this morning with 6 chicks in tow.. 4 yellow, 2 black..

all I did outside yesterday was to water the green house plants..
with the wet roots and this hot sun today, they should grow like heII..

be right back..

OK the chairs are gone..

I took the small tiller in to get it fixed.. I figure it needs a new ignition module.. I tried a shot of Hot Shot starter fluid and didn't get a pop.. I will just write off the cost of the repair as part of the green house expense..

since we quit using the dog kennel , we found the other grape vine.. right smack dab in the center of the floor.. not a weed around,, just the grape vine.. It is about a foot tall and looking good.. maybe I should throw a fence around the grape arbor and pen a few chickens in there for a while ..

we often get those smoked knuckles for the dogs.. never had a dog get sick from it.. but then we have been doing it for only about 30 years or so.. maybe we are just lucky..

I almost had my big incubators sold yesterday.. but then the guys decided that they didn't want to give up that much space in their shop or garage.. It is only the same size as a large upright freezer.. I guess their priorities are different than ours, eh ?

Good Morning People .... Yep, morning for me.... I got up early this am and started catching up on posts,,, then fell asleep when I got to Bigfam's so just gave in and laid back down. Slept for 4 more hours... sorry Heather don't mean to rub it in. If I get up to early and go back to bed I can just about guarantee will sleep 3-4 hours when I go back to bed..... And I have wonderful dreams then !!! I've always required a lot of sleep... 7-8 hours min.... feel much better getting more which seldom happens.
You young ones can handle the 5 hours..... BUT not every night heather....... Got any friends or family that can come over now and then so you can sleep in or get a nap???

Forgot I was suppose to go to Rhinelander for bloodwork today.... I HATE making appointments for bloodwork !!!! For G's sake, what's wrong with just showing up ? I don't mind waiting !!!

Took all of the small dogs down to the lake swimming yesterday..... Even got Butt dog and Dolly to swim from the end of the pier to shore !! Cali did to then when she got closer to shore she turned around and almost swam back to us. After Butt dog got out of the lake she had to roll in every muddy spot on shore she could find. She sure looked weird, totally covered in mud, she looked like a chocolate colored dog... Kinda cute !!! lol (Butt dog...bichon/shitzu... Dolly bicon/poodle) (Cali Poodle/? just adopted two weeks ago from OCHS)

Porky one of my pot bellied pigs (for you newbies, Porky is a pot bellied pig, Ellie May and Ernie are too) tried out his new larger size swimming pool. He just fit in the 4' now he has room to spare in the 5'.... Of course my camera was in the house AND my cards are filled up. Dang computer won't let me download the larger card either....
smack.gif

He just sat right smack in the middle... he acts like he owns the place.... heck even I don't !!!

Oh and Heather.... real cute about my animals running loose..... but beat ya to it.... The pigs are free range.... They never leave the yard.... favorite spot is hanging by the garage door where they get fed.... Pigs !!! LOL
Oh and ET has been letting the goats out to free range during the day..... MY BEAUTIFUL HOSTAS are NO LONGER WITH US !!!

Lost one of my magpie ducks to drowing two weeks ago and I agree, they should have been big enough to get out.... I worry about my baby muscovies... I have to have ET build something that I can EASILY take in and out for them..... since I change their water at least 2 times a day.... of course more in this weather...... They sure do love their pools.

Really need to get to the laundry mat today..... Might just go to Crandon and do a load or two.... what ever will fit on the line to dry...Then head to Rhinelander tonight after 8pm and hit the nicer laundry mat that has WiFi and air conditioning. Their prices go down after 8pm to the same as Crandon's.
Getting hot in here now.... West sun..... Sure wish I was a daytime person and could get up and do chores before it get ungodly hot...

We went swimming in the lake yesterday and just FYI I dryed off on the deck of the pontoon boat.......... Naked !!!!! LOL Can't wait my swimming pool is coming between Friday and Monday.
ET wants to put it right outside our living room window. Flatest part of the yard. I can understand that. Less work but it isn't far from the apple trees AND I'm afraid of the chickens on that side of the yard getting into it. Oh and the goats jumping in...... Thinking if they try to walk on the cover might create a problem !!!!
Anyone else have a pool that has animals ????? What do you do ????
Oh and Judy.... How many bags of salt do you think I should buy to start out with ? My ozone/saltwater filter came fedX already. My solar cover and filter cartridges are waiting for me at Wally World in Antigo. Now just need the pool !!!
Should go to Maynards and buy some pool stuff with the 15% off bag....
Ok, got go pay some bills....... put that off last week while family was here.......wish I would have sleep walked around that bank last week.

Angiebubs, Maybe just keep the chicken on the corrid for a bit longer ? That reminds me of some doctors I've met in my life... YOU have to educate them too !!! And you have to PAY them to do it !!
smack.gif

Kristip... If in doubt you can always reboil those bones. My girls love those long bones with the marrow inside. Cali girl has a much longer tongue to get it out the Butt Dog and Dolly.

TO I'd love to get some of that garlic too. Unk what is best for up in this neck of the woods. I remember something about getting the hard neck vs the soft neck?

We love garlic !!! YUM... steak just isn't steak without tons of it... oh and buttered mushrooms (mental note to get butter when in town)

Ok, never started paying bills..... You guys were to busy posting while I was posting..... Getting hot out AGAIN !!! Farrier isn't coming this week, good thing... now we can use some rain.

Bl4 hope your news takes a better turn....

OMG So I am back from the vet....talk abotu ignorant!!! I wish I had spokeen with the actual Vet. Usually its her that calls back.

And I think they one young gal was finding it all amusing as I heard her smirk or giggle, she ignored me when Iw as asking questions then would go "Sorry what?" etc At least the main one I spoke with had some customer service skills. ANyhow when I asked about the worming (had asked on the phone earlier for them to ask Vet if eprinex could be used safely on 3-4 month old chicks and in simultanously with cocci treatment) she said oh this will take care of worms too. I said "Corid? Its an antibiotic and will not treat worms" She said oh wait a minute...looked at notes and said to use eprinex..I am sure that was written just from ph conversation. THen i asked if they had any of the medicines on the list..she said no you wil have to go to the co-op. I said well jsut so you know-you do have Corid the first one on the list ampromillium. When asked if the other medications needed to be repeated in 1.5 to 2 wks like Corid...they said no one dose is fine with any of those. I explained that right on the Corid pkg it states to repeat to kill new formed eggs.....so I have no faith in their input on the other meds either. ARGH! ANyhow I took in a sample of my main flock just to confirm they are all ok.

THe print out is from merekmanuals.com/vet/poultry/coccidiosis/overview_of_coccidiosis_in_poultry a site I was already on.

So they recommended putting her back on Corid or choosing one of the other options...
