Hi all!
haven't been on lately, but I have been trying to check in and see what everyone is up too.
Things have been busy here-
The garden is huge and growing great. I have froze 20lbs. of broccoli so far and picked another 20! My DS turned 4, so we had a big party complete with fireworks in the hayfield.
Some very sad new here too. You may have seen it on the news: Our neighbor failed to yield the right of way at the corner of our farm. He was driving a forage truck, and was hit by a full manure tanker. Our friend was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. I was outside feeding the animals and I heard a loud crash. I looked around but didn't think much of it until the emergency vehicles started arriving. We could see the whole thing from the house. Very sad....
One of my chantecler chicks died three days ago. I think the heat.

We worked on cleaning and freezing peas this morning. My dad got them from a local farmer.

And lastly- my poor DS9 got a horrible sun burn on Friday. He has been up nights from the pain. The blisters on his shoulders are the size of quarters. They are breaking and oozing. He is a red head and I suppose that is why, but I don't think my sister was diligent enough about putting sunscreen on him. Breaks my heart.
Anyway- hopefully I will be on here more often!

Even plain vinegar) on sunburn applied immediately as soon as you get home will stop the burning and and the pain and prevent peeling. Grew up on a lake in Michigan and was always having to do this for my brother every spring. The fool always had to go skiing as soon as the ice was out oh, and of course we all know about egg whites for blisters.

OMG I am so so sorry to hear the sad news !!! Thoughts and prayers going out to him and his family and all of the neighborhood. (((HUGS))) How Sad !

Pea's look good. Wish I had generous neighbors like that !!! LOL

ET went over to the lake to try the boat wiring again. Looks like he knows what to do. Brought the battery home to charge last night and it was charged so ??? Maybe a bad connection someplace?
After I water all my ducks (ok ok... give them fresh water) the girls and I are headed to the lake too !!

Judge,
Sounds like you have been very busy..
Sorry to hear of your neighbor and sons burns..poor kid

You were missed..

Vicki

Jim,
Sounds like you will be breeding Orpingtons next year.

Judge, smear that kid up with Aloe! It will help heal the burn! You should also get that aloe gel for cooling sunburns, there is a brand out there (Ocean Potion) that also contains lidocaine to help ease the pain. Keep it in the fridge so it cools faster....

Tubing on the river today was fun, but a little bit cool. We plan on going again in a few weeks.

Wish it would rain a little bit more here, it is bone dry out there!

I locked up the layers for 2 days now, I got 2 eggs today so far. It's something anyway. I'll do it for another day and see if anyone else wants to get with the program.

I moved the mommas and chicks around. Miss Momma Marans with Deli orp babies is very fiesty with her babies. She can and will fight off any bird who messes with them. So I put her in the main coop and have the brooder area open with water and chick starter in there.

I put Sugar and her brood in the isolation area just outside of the coop in the shed. Sugar the White Ameracauna, currently has 5 chicks... may be 6? I can't keep it straight anymore but I know she has 2 lav orps (one is a big fat fluffy chunky monkey butt) and a much more petite one, 2 black sometings Orps? Doms?and A Hershey baby. And may be, just may be, she'll adopt Peepers. I've been struggling with Peepers (Rigas orphan). I've been trying to get it extra food. It is so darn skinny. It isn't growing anymore either. It's actually not much bigger than these new babies of Sugar's. So I tested it out this morning and let Peeper eat with Sugar and her babies. Sugar didn't even notice there was one extra. I gave treats to make sure all was good. I took Peepers out becuase I didn't want to leave them all unatteneded until I could watch it all again for a while. So I did another treat/bribery session. All chicks just ran together, Sugar just thinks Peepers is one of hers. So I put peepers in with Sugar. I don't know if it's too late for Peepers or not. I'm also thinking of putting half strenth corid in the waterer because there wasn't any medicated chick feed. Just an ounce of prevention, you know? What do you think?
