Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

glad to read all the happy news of hatches, family, etc. to kind of offset all the sadness.

Wow, what another downpour this morning! Beautiful breezy cool day now tho.

FT _ where did you see that new feed? At Townline Feeds in Bryant? I knew about it but hadn't seen it anywhere. It's for molting birds and it's coming on that time. Wonder if it's good for everybody? My 3 amigas are too young yet (and the peppers from Terri too of course) but Noodle and Soup should be starting any time now I would guess.

CHICKIE GURUS OPINIONS NEEDED PLEASE!!!
old.gif

I'm getting suspicious that the dramatic size difference between my two chicks might have something to do with parasites. My neighbor says hers are the same size difference as mine tho I haven't seen hers since we picked them up from Jim's. Neither of mine has shown any sign of cocci so I'm thinking possible round worms???? One did do an intestinal shed yesterday but I'm not positive which one or if that has anything to do with anything at this point. They both seem to be happy (I can see them right now perching on their little tower enjoying the cool breeze) and they are now getting a nice shine to their feathers since being on the Nutrena starter/grower for, has it been 2 weeks since we brought them home? I gave them some probiotics in their water this morning and they seem to really like it because they can't walk by the bowl without catching a sip. It's in their inside water too but they only go inside now at night or for their afternoon nap. Oh, and they have more sense to get in out of the rain than the big girls.

Anyway, what do you guys think, worm them? and what do you recommend I use? BTW - they are now 13 wks.
thanks in advance for all your input

Could the size difference perhaps be hen and roo ?? LOL If you think it's roundworm I would just go with the Wazine. But didn't you just treat with antibiotics on everyone ? I would wait a bit. Let their insides adjust. Or if you really suspect worms, maybe get a fecal done?

Yep it was at Townline Feeds. $15 for 40 lbs. I haven't checked with Nutrena's Website yet to see if their are any coupons since it is a new product. That would be nice.

Gotta to jump in the shower. My sister and I are going to go visit my Aunt and Uncle in Arbor Vitae since my sister won't be able to attend the funeral this week for my cousin.

will check in later.

Oh and TO .... my good deal was a pair of Cavello Horse shoes (boots) brown size 6 $20.. brand new in box.. They go for well over $100 I have one horse they might fit... Might go to ebay or CL and sell them at a fair price.

OK--I havent read the 60 some posts I am behind...just wanted to check in and thank Momg's DH (Gary) for noticing a limping bird among the babies...YES----___---- I did miss a legband!

I looked and looked when I changed them and thought I had gotten all....black band on black leg--maybe not such a good idea? Anyhoe, I was able to get it off with an x-acto knife and applied some 3xantibiotic and tape it up. The bird is holding it's leg up but is eating and drinking so I thing it will be fine!
It was great meeting you today Gary and I hope that Connie (Momgille)sp) likes the birds we picked!

OK--company coming in a bit...and I have done NOTHING! I guess I better get a move on here!
Later! TO

Is it wrong of me to train my chickens to bite? I think not . I have tried to tell my family for years that my farm is not a petting zoo. My sister even takes it upon herself to feed my animals (but not the right feed and she doesn't give them water-which is what they actually needed). Irony is family and the stress of dealing with them! So everyone enjoy the holiday!

attack chickens, why didn't I think of that??? :old

A roo???? Don't you know it's not nice to swear like that???
Didn't treat the two little peppers because they we r e isolated and didn't show any signs of a problem. Great idea about the fecal. Have to take the pup in on Tuesday anyway, I'll give a call and ask if they can do one. Also a good idea to check for a coupon.
Thanks for the tips. Hope you have a nice trip.

Sweet, poor chickie, hope.it gets better. Just an FYI - I really had a hard time getting the leg band off one of mine without cutting it because it was so tight. ( The biggest chick of course).

Sorry to hear about the losses in families, Dad's are hard to lose.... My father pretty much disowned me when I was 17 when as a "hormonal" and typical of teens in the 80's ,
I thought I would be better off with my mother. We lived in Australia at that time... needless to say within a week he had my plane ticket home, I saw him for about an hour when i was
24 and we happened to be in Las Vegas (he had moved back by then), we had lunch. I am now 43 and I try to move on, but think of him. I have found my younger siblings on FB but
they have never wanted to contact me.
I think with a death, there is at some point closure. But still my heart and thoughts with those who have truly lost family.

We are at Denny's on their WiFi and now I have to go to the dreaded Best Buy... UGH!!

Anyway.. I am alive, enjoying my 1 day off...

Have a better weekend all.

Carol

Evening everyone,
What a gorgeous evening! Finally got some stuff done.in the gardens today. Late blight hit my beautiful tomato patch. I was in there on Thursday and it was like trying walk thru a jungle. I go in today and most of the vines are look like something took a blowtorch to them. They are black and crispy !!!! Well at least I now know what the farmer next door had the crop duster spraying for on his fields. I thought he was just killing off the potato vines but it was odd because he's never used a plane to do it. At least I spotted it in time to salvage most of the fruit.
Speaking of fruit, we will be picking a bumper crop of Apple's tomorrow. Perfect weather for canning some applesauce and apple butter, yum!

Hope everyone is able to enjoy your day tomorrow. We just love sitting on the porch and enjoying the fact we will NOT be on the road!
