I've Been around BYC off and on for a few years and just never made my way over to this thread. So I finally decided to join the conversation instead of occasionally lurking.

We were living up north, but after I graduated a few months ago we bought a 5 acre farmette in southern Wisconsin.

So here are a few pics of the homestead so far. My birds are all hatchery stock, and now with quite a bit of a barnyard mix going on, Although I still see the pure breeds in the genetics section and drool... eventually when funds permit.

Welcome to the group!!!

Glad to see you over here!!
Where do you live?
Quote: lol...funny..

All I can say is I love my jeep..it is old as dirt (96) and it has been very very good to me. I am afraid to get a different vehicle. Joe bought me that Mercedes and I drive my old Jeep...lol

Wow, my niece just bought a brand new Exploder, I mean Explorer. I think it is rated very good as far as safety goes, which I'm glad about with her having precious cargo on board. That's ok, she makes good money to keep the repair shops in business ... LOL

My sister has a Honda Pilot. She loves it... She says it's the best vehicle that she has ever owned... Has well over 100 k I think. I is very nice but not sure if it is big enough.... maybe they have a bigger model ???

I have to say, I love my Nissan's. Have you checked to see what Toyota, Honda and Nissan have out there?

I can tell you one thing I will never buy is a Chevy truck.... speaking of.... we went to get feed today with the truck that just got fixed...... they put a new idler arm on the driver side and aligned it. Now it sounds like the brakes are grinding on that side.... Crap.... another call to the repair shop to see what's going on... It didn't make the noise when I brought it in..... At least you can drive 70 mph and the steering wheel doesn't shake any more.
Now swimming today..... buuurrrrrrrrri baby it's cold outside !!!

Gotta go wake ET up. He keeps falling asleep in his chair and doesn't come to bed until 2am, then has me set my phone alarm for 4:30pm.... I keep telling him he is going to die from his sleep apnea because he isn't in here using his machine.

VickiW.... When I look at the pictures I see two hens even though they may look a bit different... then again I can see why some would say one is a hen and one is a roo.....I used to have a Aussie Roo and his comb was a lot bigger then your birds although it was an adult. Time will tell.....I still say keep the poor guy if it turns out to be a roo. Breed it with your hen or if she doesn't make it breed it with your neighbors and get some more aussies that are raised on your property... just a thought.
I see FF has small bags of feather fixer with a $2 coupon for a big bag of Nutrena Layer....
I'll tell ya what.... I'm getting real tired of buying chicken food....... GD birds !!! LOL

Cali was acting weird and barking towards the woods today. I walked around the huge hill of pasture scrappings..... ok horse Sh!t.... compost.... and there was the apple tree with TONS of apples on the ground. She kept looking and barking.... I think there must have been a deer.... I was hoping to see a bear !!! I know, crazy but I know they are here so I would just like to see one on my own property. So then she thinks she is hot Sh!t and climbed to the top of the hill and was keeping an eye out for whatever it was that she saw !!! Darn dog... she is so cute but she is always looking for trouble !!! LOL

Good Night all !!

Hi all!

Well, they did a bunch of test and he gets a second opinion in the morning. His tests were "borderline" but with so many bouts and family history, they may (I hope) just rip it out and be done with it!

Welcome Paganrose! Nice to have another Pagan on the thread!

No one has tried to burn me at the stake yet (tough plenty of opportunity at the bash) so you should be just fine. Nice pics of the critters.

CS.... Hope everyone gets well soon. No help from me on a new car.... we're lucky if we have on from the same decade!

FT....Lets just hope Cali doesn't go after what she's barking at!

Again I know I missed stuff. Just too busy and tired lately.
Night All!

There's a website called autocomplaints.com. They list the most common problems with used cars. They have been right on with all the cars I've owned. I won't buy a used car without checking them out first. They also have a list of the worst vehicles. Last I checked an Explorer was #1, I think it was the 2002 model. My opinion: Honda and Toyota are good, Chevy and Ford ok, Dodge/Chrysler sucks.

Good morning!
Welcome pagan! Nice birds :)
Cs and cind, I hope the kids start to feel better.
Judge, I think mom is making a trip home in a few weeks. How is the hen? Any babies yet?
Cs, I also love my jeep! She is a 2000. I have hardly spent anything on repairs. Almost 150k on her :) I think they make a big jeep. Maybe the commander...

I think the hatch is over. I have two eggs in there yet. They are a little darker then the others. They have an m on them. Del, the mottled had a mo written on them. Maybe these were marans... I remember the day I was there, you grabbed a few out of nests. Maybe it was a here give these a shot kind of thing... I tried to candle them. I can not see anything! Of coarse I will give them a little more time to be sure :) otherwise every other egg is now a thriving chick! They are amazing! The leghorn chicks are ginormous!!!!! Thanks again :) excited to see how they turn out !

Vickiw, how are the aussies this morning? I worry about them :-( here s a pic of Blake last night with one of ours.

That's what my DH calls them too!

My BILs cousin owns an auto repair shop & he says those Exploders are in there every few months with something else wrong with them.

Mine too! He loves them though. My son is driving an old one...it seems OK. The best car I have had is my Saturn...doesnt help you I know since they dont make them any more...I kinda think that is why they stopped making them--they last too long! (knock on wood here) I was thinking how BL4 could get that link right up there...didnt you just get a new car too?

Vickiw, how are the aussies this morning? I worry about them :-( here s a pic of Blake last night with one of ours.

THat is an adorable pic of Blakey! What a big smile. It looks like your pullet is well on the way to being grown up Cuties!
I put my roosters up on CL for $6 ea and a person emailed me and said they would take them all for $3 each! I just laughed! I will butcher them myself for that!
Speaking of birds...guess I better head out and give mine their breakfast!
Have a good one! TerriO

A huge COLD morning everyone

Cuties and Terri - the littles seem fine this morning tho there was more bloody poop in their cage, tho not huge. Terri, I had spread that ceca excrement out a bit so you could clearly see that it was tissue not just manure but it's pretty representative of what I've been finding. Now maybe that puts to rest I am not just being an over nurturing mom, tho I really wish that was what it was.

Unkadan - if you're lurking, I did appreciate your input and totally understand. I guess I needed to have posted pics of what I was seeing sooner. Sorry for my possibly course sounding response, my frustration was beginning to get to me. I deal extremely well with just about any challenge when I know what is going on (even cancer) but not when I cannot find answers.
You first have to be able to answer the question before you can search for the solution.
Would really like your opinion on what you think if I'm on the right track after you read below.

After studying and researching more, and coming across a very recent post over in emergencies on a cocci thread by dawg53, I am going to start another round of corid.
I read in the Mercks (and other veterinary sources) that first there is more than one strain of cocci that would cause the ceca lining to be expelled if the infestation was severe enough. Also, that in severe cases of one of these strains, you don't see all the typical symptoms associated with infested chicks but what you do see is stunted growth, (if you could see them together it would be obvious), increased thirst (they both drink a lot!) and increased appetite (I can't keep their feeder full and they attack anything else I give them) often leading to the mis-diagnosis of worms if the intestinal shedding is not discovered, especially if it is "simmering" and not initially overwhelming the bird. The only other obvious symptom is sudden death. I have been examining as closely as possible all the sheds and have seen no sign of worms and, since the duration of this is now into at least week three, (that I am certain of) it would be logical to assume that one or both would be expelling at least a few adults.
I also learned that if the first round of treatment is not totally effective, symptoms will reappear within 2-3 days. Makes sense now and totally the exact same timeframe as when the sheds started reappearing. I also discovered the math was wrong on the dosage for the powder. I was giving 1/2 tsp. per gallon (the common dose for moderate) is incorrect. It should be 3/4 tsp per gallon moderate and up to as much as 1 1/2 tsp for severe. It would be so nice if someone other than the Canadians would put the doses, in English, on drug packaging for small flocks.
Anyway, since they have been on probiotics and protein for more than three days already, I am re-starting the corid at 1 tsp per gallon for 5 days. The vet manuals state this is the proper course and will do no harm as long as I take the other precautions as soon as the treatment is ended. One last thing, if this works, which will prove whether or not I am right, it is possible that the hen will have permanent damage to production ability. My guess on that would likely depend on how long she delays start of lay.

Ok, now I am off to Amazon to locate a copy of the veterinary book of parasitology and to ebay for a cheap microscope!!!

cs, we just traded in my Hyandai Sonata for a Toyota Highlander yesterday. It's an SUV, seats 7, you can get a 4WD model, and not a huge vehicle at all. DH and I have minivan-itis. He loves his Tundra. This will be our 4th Toyota in about 15 years and we've never had problems (just trade them as our needs change.) They hold their value very well. I'll let you know how we like the Highlander.

Little man is doing great, sleeping 3-4 hours at a time at night which momma loves. I'm carrying him around in a wrap today and he is pleased as punch with that arrangement.

Welcome newbies!! And happy birthday Cind!!
